Statistic tool
Hi, I would like to understand how your the statistic tool work : do the ip of a contributor counts? going several times with the same ip counts?
thanks for your work, Fatapatate (talk) 21:06, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the traffic statistics tool is off for Feb 23. Why ? Thanks a lot.

esoteric healing
Hi Henrik. I have waited for your answer and the removal of the tags since my re-editing and improved article on the subject, along with a lot of references to prove its neutrality... but I haven't had a reply yet. So I've decided to try to contact you directly. Please may I ask you to read the article and remove the tags as they are now irrelevant in the context. Sorry if I am jumping the queue! I look forward to hearing from you. See below for my messages to you. Alanhopking (talk) 13:21, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

stats.grok.se Latest link
When wikipedia links to stats.grok.se/lang/latest it shows stats for 2009-12-xx. Maybe time to update to 2010-02-xx ? ;-) 201002 may be added as a date as well. A modification to "Latest" is to actually use the last 30 ays, rather than the current month. Seems it would be useful to script this instead of manually modify it over nd over? Electron9 (talk) 01:47, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, it definitely would be useful to script it. I think that every month, I have no idea why I haven't gotten around to it yet. :) henrik•talk 07:46, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- It's usually the trap of keeping everyday activities running. Instead of taking a small break and do stuff that saves time from there on. The thing is to make a conscious to deal with it and put other things away for the day :-) Electron9 (talk) 15:33, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
simon hatley
Hi
I have been trying to correct the entry for Simon Hatley, which is incorrect in a number of details, but the original entry keeps returning. The point I want to stress is that Hatley did not sail on three known voyages to the South Pacific but only on two. The reference for him sailing with Dampier on the St George is incorrect (this comes from 'Pirates of new Spain' by Peter Gerhard who also states incorrectly that Hatley deserted to the Spaniards, when in fact he was captured). There is no evidence at all for Hatley sailing with Dampier on the St George in the source documents, in particular in the main source: 'A Voyage round the World' by William Funnell.
I suggest that whoever controls this entry refers to the Real Ancient Mariner' by Robert Fowke, just published by Travelbrief Publications of which I am the director. Fowke makes no claim to have discovered the link between Hatley and Coleridge's poem, this was established by Wordsworth, but he has written the first proper account of Hatley's life with original details of his place of origin and travels. It's fascinating stuff and Hatley perhaps deserves a bigger entry anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robert Greg (talk • contribs) 13:55, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Henrik.
I am a frequent user of your stats page since I am an editor.
Why are there some days where the stats are not showing at all? That's too bad since your counter is just great.

- The causes differ, but the most common case is that the raw data collection malfunctioned for some reason. That sometimes happens, and is regrettable, but there is very little I can do about it. I've chosen to be conservative and not interpolate any missing data, which means that even a one hour downtime will mean the day will be blank. henrik•talk 22:22, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Henrik, I would find it interesting if there was a choice to select a certain period over serval months. Also, as there is a way to cover a year maybe it would be ok to add this to the menu as a choice. Thank you! -- Simplicius (talk) 10:25, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

- As for the rights, the text under every edit box says "you irrevocably agree to release your contributions under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL", and thus that license will apply in perpetuity. However, I very much doubt that someone will undelete the text and make it accessible again once you're done copying it and I've deleted it again. henrik•talk 08:49, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

New Topic
Henrik,
Thank you very much for the article page statistics. It was very useful to me this way:
I was reading something about Executive Order and is really amazing that the page had a big spike of visitors and editors when the president makes news, and it reflects how amazing how we as human beings try to stick to a definition, but sometimes that definition seems to change or seems not to have a concrete meaning for everybody.
I mean, even paper dictionaries either show different definitions or they add more definitions trough out time. These explains why do we have judges that interpret the meaning and application of every single definition on legal battles.
It's very interesting for me, that when Bush mandated E-verify really hurt many companies that relied in the available labor (skilled and unskilled).

Just thanks for the Stats feature.
Just wanted to let you know that I found the Stats tool a real motivator. I very much doubt if it is possible, given that it is internal to the browser, but it would be even "greater" if one could see how often a given heading is clicked on, on a given page.
What likely is possible however is gathering together all the redirects to a specific heading and the number of times that a link from another page is followed to a specific heading.
Thanks again. Dave3 (talk) 00:22, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Could you add the average number of hits per day per article to the stats result page? I.e., total hits for the month divided by number of days counted. Morn (talk) 20:35, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Also, how difficult would be to present aggregate counts? Right now, if a file is linked as File:img.png somewhere and as Image:img.png somewhere else, the stats are apparently presented separately. Morn (talk) 09:38, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi Henrik
The excellent routine for displaying the viewing stistics has a little problem.
It automatically inserts the underscores between the words in the article title but puts one on the end as well. This means it then cannot find the article.

A question
Hello,Henrik. Nice to meet you. Can you tell me if there is a tool that help me to find the total trafic of an especific article? Thanks for your time.--Juan Quisqueyano 14:20, 16 April 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Juan Quisqueyano (talk • contribs)
- To my knowledge there's no way to easily get the information you want. Of course, one way to get that information would be to get the number of total views for each month (e.g., http://stats.grok.se/en/201004/Tree, http://stats.grok.se/en/201003/Tree, etc.) for the 28 or so months between now and 12/2007. The number of total views for each month is given in the first sentence -- e.g. "Tree has been viewed 49870 times in 201004."
- A slightly more efficient way to get the available 'total view' information would be to get data for each year -- e.g. (http://stats.grok.se/en/2007/Tree, http://stats.grok.se/en/2008/Tree, http://stats.grok.se/en/2009/Tree, http://stats.grok.se/en/2010/Tree). You'll see that some data for months are missing. To find that month-level information, simply go to the page for that specific month. (And be sure to add the total views for that month to the reported number of total views for that year.) Emw (talk) 21:32, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

For now, I can only consult month by month (example : for Cinq leçons sur la psychanalyse, I have access to january 2009 http://stats.grok.se/fr.s/200901/Cinq_le%C3%A7ons_sur_la_psychanalyse, february http://stats.grok.se/fr.s/200902/Cinq_le%C3%A7ons_sur_la_psychanalyse, march http://stats.grok.se/fr.s/200903/Cinq_le%C3%A7ons_sur_la_psychanalyse, etc., but I want to know the frequentation for the whole year 2009). - Khayman (contact) 13:29, 18 April 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Khayman (talk • contribs)

Case sensitivity of http://stats.grok.se
Hi Henrik. I like your tool very much but in our German Wikipedia we have a little problem with it, the case sensitivity. Here some example:
May you fix this problem? --Jobu0101 (talk) 06:43, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your work the Wikipedia article stats. Is it possible to get a list of the top 10,000 (as opposed to the top 1,000 currently available?) most viewed Wikipedia articles? Peter Saundry, NCSE
So did you understand what I mean? --Jobu0101 (talk) 16:54, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Jobu0101. I don't have detailed knowledge of how Henrik is collecting his data, but I imagine that being case insensitive allows Henrik to easily group together results for pages like 'James Watson' and 'James watson'. These cases are much more frequent than the 'Primus'/'PriMus' example. Given that, perhaps the selections Henrik is using should be case sensitive, but case insensitive on the first character after a space. On first thought it seems like that would address your problem. Wikistats.it
Henrik,
When view the raw data from Wikistats.it, do you know what each column represents? For example:
en Lil_Wayne 1990 90092061 en Lil_Wayne 1891 89170932
The first represents 2pm on Feb 24, 2010, the second represents 3pm (according to the downloaded file from Wikistats.it). I assumed the first number was "new article views" and the second was "overall article views" but that doesn't seem to be the case. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thank you,

wikistats raw data files
Hi Henrik, Many thanks for the great statistics page with data between 200712 and now. I assume that you do have all the hourly visitor number log files between those two end dates (except for some missing). I could find these data only between 200910 and now at http://mituzas.lt/wikistats. Colleagues and I would like to use these data for academic research. I'm a physicist in a group working on statistical physics and collective phenomena, this is my webpage. Could I download all hourly log files from you? (I've asked Midom about these files, but I'm not sure he has the time to reply)

Traffic stats for categories of pages
Hi Henrik. Thank you very much for your traffic stats tool - it's awesome for allowing one to focus one's work on subjects that are of interest to a great number of people. Is it possible in some way to get the top 20 viewed 'Military of X' or 'Army of X' (X Army) articles? Kind regards Buckshot06 (talk) 05:41, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think you can use Henrik's tool for that kind of measurement. The closest thing I can think of is this toolserver tool. Just choose WikiProject Military History (or a subproject therein). Killiondude (talk) 07:06, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
FAQ page
Hey Henrik, I began an FAQ page for your tool, located currently at User:Killiondude/stats. Could you take a look at some point and correct me if any of the info is wrong? I made it by looking at the questions on your talk page and the last talk archive you have. It's not "done" by any means, I may add more questions later, but I don't want to include misinformation. Killiondude (talk) 08:06, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, and I was also thinking that once the FAQ page is completed, it could maybe be linked in an edit notice that I could create for your talk page. I don't want to overstep any boundaries, however. If you'd rather just have a notice at the top of your talk page or something, that's fine. I think that a lot of these questions on your talk page get repetitive, and an FAQ might be helpful. We could also move the FAQ page to your userspace or perhaps the projectspace once it is proofread by you. Killiondude (talk) 08:21, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

A great tool, but it seems that the current month is not available for the first week of that month when searching stats on a particular article. Well, I see a lot of people (about 500 a month according to http://stats.grok.se/en/201004/User_talk:Henrik) write here about the useful tool but Henrik has not edited since March 26, 2010.
I thought I would post here to see if anybody has a suggestion. Sorry Henrik for posting on your page, but this seems to be where discussion is about the tool. Can anybody write a new one? Is there another one that we can use instead? Does anybody have any thoughts? Please reply on my talk as I don't want to be rude to Henrik.
And Henrik: Love the tool. I use it all the time. Thanks!!

Wikipedia article traffic statistics
Hello Henrik,
The 'Wikipedia article traffic statistics' is great! I see that Wiki's history pages get quite a lot of reading and are among the top runners in number of views.
For example (cut paste):
Thomas_Jefferson has been viewed 269532 times in 201004. This article ranked 549 in traffic on en.wikipedia.org.
(More than a quarter million views in one month!)
I was wondering how many times a day the view recorder is updated. I just finished making a few minor edits in the 'Thomas Jefferson' page and noticed that that page's viewer record number had not changed in the last hour.
I have been an avid reader of Wiki for more years than I can remember and have recently taken up to editing, mostly in the History and Philatelic pages. I have made major contributions in the 'Pony Express' and 'Postage stamps and postal history of the United States' pages. I am currently drafting a page about US History on US Postage in a sub page in my user space. Would certainly welcome some general input about starting up a page if you have the time. All the best, GwillHickers - GWillHickers (talk) 20:09, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- The traffic statistics data is updated once per day. From what I can tell, it's updated soon after 0:00 UTC. Emw (talk) 21:14, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- There definitely should be a FAQ created for the traffic statistics, and an editnotice on his talk page linking to it. Killiondude (talk) 21:23, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi Henrik, The page viewer counter is a really great tool. Thanks for making it. I've been using it to follow the interest in the various political issues of the UK general elections this year. I've noticed weekly viewing patterns and I wondered if you could make some mark or colour to indicate weekends? This would help to quickly analyse the data. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewcgirling (talk • contribs) 07:48, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Here! Here! Yes, some sort of color coding on the bar-graph would be an added asset, esp for us folks with less than perfect eyesight. Also, instead of the year-month indicator being one long number (for example - 201004 = April of 2010) it would be nice to see April, 2010. In any event, the view counter certainly is nice. (Thanks Henrik!) GWillHickers (talk) 14:02, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Would it be possible to create a longer time scale until i.e. the end of the year. So it would be not necessary each month to wait till the new month is installed. Regards --Geisler Martin (talk) 11:00, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- What? If you're looking for aggregate data for the last twelve months for an article, you could try looking at http://emw.ath.cx/wikistats/ but that site is still in testing mode, I believe. Killiondude (talk) 07:08, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. But my problem is not to see back for some month but to have to wait after the start of a new month till Henrik has installed this month in his counter. --Geisler Martin (talk) 08:04, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Understanding the statistics
Dear Henrik,
I've seen the great statistics from you at http://dammit.lt/wikistats/
I cannot find anywhere an explanation of how to read the files. What do the two figures mean at the end of the article name, please? As an example:
en Bill_Clay_(baseball) 1 22858
en Bill_Clement 2 116654
en Bill_Clinton 205 49618879
en Bill_Clinton_Supreme_Court_candidates 5 123652
en Bill_Clinton_judicial_appointment_controversies 1 79142

Possible Glitch for Elena_Kagan
Your traffics stats for Elena_Kagan show 420,800 views yesterday. While this is possible...I find it a bit unlikely.
Could you comment as to whether this is a bug, or the page indeed got almost 1/2 million views yesterday?Smallman12q (talk) 00:48, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- The page got 420,800 views on Monday, May 10, which makes sense given her US Supreme Court nomination was announced that day. Note that the traffic tool is updated soon after midnight UTC. Traffic statistics for years
Hello,
i tryed to get statistics for the whole year 2009 with an url like http://stats.grok.se/de/2009/Unendlichkeitsmaschine. This seems to be ok on the first view, but there is a gap in august. Is this method correct?
How can i get the statistics in ascii-format for further statistic examination?
--LoKiLeCh (talk) 20:20, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there. One way to get page view data for that missing month (August) is to go to the data for that specific month (i.e., http://stats.grok.se/de/200910/Unendlichkeitsmaschine) and add the total views for that month to the total views for 2009.
- I'm working on a tool similar to Henrik's which will hopefully address some of the more frequent feature requests people have made here. The tool is available at http://emw.ath.cx/wikistats/. It isn't quite ready for widespread usage, but you may want to check there in the near future. I plan on adding support for multiple projects (e.g. German Wikipedia, French Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, etc.) in the next few days. I also plan on giving users the option to get raw page view data so that they can use it for their own analysis. This raw data will likely be available as a .csv file as well as a sortable HTML table. Emw (talk) 21:43, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot; that's what i am looking for. Due to the zero-limit the distributions are asymmetric. Perhaps you can add the median and further quantiles in addition to the average and the sigma. ? ;-) --LoKiLeCh (talk) 20:11, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll add median and other quantiles in the near future. All of the features mentioned in my previous post are now implemented. If there are other features you think would be useful, please let me know. (Note that my server is unstable, so the tool may be unavailable from time to time.) Emw (talk) 21:26, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Case sensitivity
Your excellent tool at stats.grok.se seems to suffer from case insensitivity. The viewing statistics for Han solo (a trilobite) are identical to those of Han Solo (a Star Wars character), and this is clearly because the two aren't being differentiated. Is this deliberate? Is there a solution? --Stemonitis (talk) 18:45, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Article statistics tool
Want to collaborate on a tool to present the data as a longer-term line graph, with the ability to view more history and compare articles (kinda like stock symbol sites)? I could just write a wrapper to collect data from your tool and then do the work, but I figure you're probably more skilled and can build a better mousetrap. :) //Blaxthos ( t / c ) 21:25, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Blaxthos. I've been working on a tool which does what you describe here: http://emw.ath.cx/wikistats/. One can simultaneously compare all available view page data (i.e. page views per day, 12/2007 - present) for two or three pages at a time (or just graph data for one page). There are a fair amount of other features that allow users to easily drill down into the data -- take a look! If you're interested in collaborating on that tool, or even have suggestions, let me know. At the moment I'm refining zoom and pan features for the traffic data graphs. Emw (talk) 01:37, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oh nice, that's exactly what I was talking about. You've done a really great job so far. I do some of the same sort of thing at my job, and one of the things we do for historical graphs like that is to summarize the "zoomed out" views, and then only display detail when user zooms in. The further out you go, the larger the summarization period. It really helps with smoothing the graphs to a more digestible format -- the hundreds of individual pushpins makes it hard to read sometimes. However, in my application the data is already summarized; you'd have to do some heavy math to have it calculated dynamically. Anyway, if you're interested let me know if you want some help. Cheers! //Blaxthos ( t / c ) 04:45, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Disruptions to the service at stats.grok.se are most frequently caused by issues with the underlying data at http://dammit.lt/wikistats/. There was an seemingly small abnormality in that underlying data on March 20, the day the statistics service stopped -- it looks like the gzipped pagecounts file got posted about 6 minutes later than usual. To me, this doesn't explain why data for May 21-24 is missing. Usually issues in the underlying data only affect statistics for one day, and the statistics recover the next day.
- There was another problem on March 20: grok.se (the parent domain of stats.grok.se) was offline for most of the day (and into the 21st). Any regularly-scheduled processing being done by Henrik's service could have encountered a fatal error caused by that downtime. I don't think this problem will be fixed without Henrik's intervention, which doesn't seem likely in the near future. Emw (talk) 02:30, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- I wonder why nobody ever uses the E-mail this user link – except myself. Somebody has to tell Henrik that the script needs to be restarted. Henrik has been inactive, so he probably doesn't read this discussion either. E-mail is the way to go. Henrik has repeatedly reacted to my mails when the statistics were down in the past. --Sitacuisses (talk) 16:15, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- More remarkable - that there seems to be no structure in place, no back up at Wikipedia, to catch something this vital and remedy it immediately. Nobody in the Wikipedia hierarchy who can contact Henrik aside from the standard Wiki email? Is there only one solo individual who has the power over this? Is there no Plan B in case Henrik has walked away? Amazing. Maile66 (talk) 17:07, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Unbelievable... I don't understand. Why ? Some explanations would be nice. Thanks.

Hello, I believe these stats have an audience below its reality. A few weeks ago there was another name for her on WP-PT: Simone_Bittencourt_de_Oliveira --now it´s only Simone, which is the way she is best known really. So this move was correct. But before this happened, her audience was some 100, 125 page views daily --now it´s below 80. So I wonder what happenned and if you could please help me to find out whether the move has also deleted the rest of the page views statistics, since it is now directed to Simone and no longer Simone Bittencourt de Oliveira. I really think that the drop of the audience is related to the move. Thank you very much if you can help!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.21.142.164 (talk) 16:12, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Question on pageview statistics
Henrik - I am curious about the article traffic statistics feature - does this record the number of unique computers viewing the page each day, or the total views (i.e. could include the same person coming back several times in the same day).
I have been watching this for some articles I have written and follow (to see if anyone cares) - got curious about the details.
Thanks

Friendly Fire article/ Peg Mullen
Hello This is my first attempt on WikiPedia, so please excuse any mistakes I make. I wanted to ask you about the article you wrote, "Friendly Fire". It was very good, although I thought that Micheal Mullen was killed from South Vietnamese friendly fire. Sgt. Fitzgerald, who as you know informed the Mullen's of their sons death said, "It wasn't American,it was South Vietnamese artillery, that accidentally shelled an American position." After I saw the movie, I went on WikiPedia to look up Peg Mullen, and read your article. It was informative and well written, although I am certainly not an experienced writer as yourself! Please let me know if you or anyone has any views on this matter. Thank you. ~;20:56, 30 May 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by CAROLINA CATIE (talk • contribs)
Other/more sources for Traffic Data?
Dear Henrik,
I am currently writing my degree (diploma) thesis about Wikipedia. Your traffic statistics at http://dammit.lt/wikistats/ (or webarchive) are very useful and I thank you very much for your great work!
I am just curious if there is any other source or possibility to get data from before 2007?

Hi Henrik, my page Canadian Neonatal Network has been speedily deleted becuase of a conflict of interest and copyright infringemnet (much of the material used was from a website that I set up using approved language about the network's bachground, mission, goals, etc). Would it be possible for you to reinstate this, as it seems that I cannot touch it?

Problem with your live edit counter?
Hi. I'm trying to use your "live edit counter" userbox, but I'm not sure if it's working correctly for me. When I look at my own user page, the number displayed in the userbox is always 3,400 (the fixed approximate value I coded in the page source). I'm using Firefox, and I flushed the cache for both my monobook.js and my user page. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Richwales (talk) 05:43, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
google-search in Vector
Are you able / might I entice you to amend the excellent User:Henrik/sandbox/google-search to work with the new Vector skin? I'd like to use the new skin, but find your google search the single most useful UI feature, pretty much. How does one find the current rank of an article? The one listed on "Philanthropy" is constant no matter what year or month I view.
Many thanks! This is an extremely valuable service—I'm wondering whether it might serve as an index of public interest in this subject, which is growing.

Re: User:Petia
Dear Henrik, My name is Petia and I am writing as I need advice on how to proceed with an account i`ve created here and an account that has been created in my name. I am a singer and actress. Last year i`ve realized that someone created an information page about me here on Wikipedia and I think it was someone from Nova TV in Bulgaria (I took part in Celebrity Big Brother that was broadcasted by Nova TV so I guess they`ve created this profile in my name here in Wikipedia). Unfortunately they`ve missed spelled my name and wrote it as PetYa Pavlova instead of PetIa Pavlova. Anyway, now i`ve created my own account under the name Petia Music, which I want to use in order to create a page in my name called just “Petia”. Petia is how as I am known with my music and I release my singles and albums under that name. So, I decided to create a new account in the name of Petia, to which I can contribute and upload information, photos etc. for the people who are interested to know more about me as a performer. I did search in order to know whether someone has created such page already and i`ve realized that there is a profile with the name "Petia" already created, although no one has claimed it or put any information on it. I would like to transfer the page to my account or do whatever is needed so I can link my page accordingly. I will appreciate your help with regards to how could I do so. I look forward to your response Thank you in advance! Regards and Best Wishes Petia —Preceding unsigned comment added by PetiaMusic (talk • contribs) 02:44, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

About wikipedia traffic statistics
I think that the list of differetnt language of wikipedia must be updated because the italian enciclopedia is before the japan with numbers of page.--80.104.2.182 (talk) 15:55, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Error in statistics?
The Nov. 2009 figures for Kim Yuna have zero one day and over a thousand the next. Three are other zero dayson both sides of high-frequency days for this individual. This really looks like a glitch. Kdammers (talk) 10:55, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- There are occasional disruptions in the availability of the underlying page view data -- these are caused upstream of Henrik and are outside his control. The three days in 11/2009 with no data occur for all pages, including Kim Yuna. Emw (talk) 12:00, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Stats drop-off question
I noticed that the last few days the stats on a number of articles I checked dropped off significantly from averages and from same time a week ago. On friday they dropped to 50% and on saturday another 50% from friday (average estimate.) On all the articles I've checked saturday was way below the lowest count so far this year, and is about 10-20% of a typical saturday. Any ideas of why? --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 02:42, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- I noticed the same thing in Wikipedia German. Maybe because of the Soccer World Cup? Or problem with the new skin? Don't know.--KurtR (talk) 03:54, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'm noticing the same thing on the musician and band pages that I watch. Doc2234 (talk) 13:48, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Meant to swing by last night, but I noticed this as well. After seeing it on multiple pages, I stopped worrying. Btw, Henrik, I love this tool, I use it constantly. – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 15:26, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- If this is caused by a change in the Wikipedia software, there is a reason to worry, or to take some kind of action. However, Henrik is probably not the one who can do something about it. All his tool does is chart the data.--Sitacuisses (talk) 15:57, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Well okay, technically if there's a problem, then I agree it'd be something to worry about. I didn't mean to put it like that; just for me, I thought there was a sudden decrease in interest in some articles relevant to me. Though reading through this talk page finally, I'm not sure how involved Henrik is anymore. – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 16:41, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- I've been testing given sites of mine the last few days. Definitely, the system is not reporting correctly. I've emailed Henrik, but not sure what else to do. We have a problem with the system. Maile66 (talk) 01:37, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- I hope it gets fixed soon. I use it daily and was confused why an articles gets ~5k daily and then all of a sudden 800 views. Mike Allen 02:04, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Any word on it getting fixed soon, or at least some sort of acknowledgment that there is a problem? – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 06:19, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I join the chorus who thanks Henrik for his work, and emphasizes the importance of these statistics. RCraig09 (talk) 17:17, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Short term solution
After doing a random selection, it looks like the counts dropped by around 84%. As a temporary way to compare stats, I multiply the number given by 6, and it seems to equalize fairly well. Hopefully it'll be fixed. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 06:38, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- I was doing something similar, but not nearly as precise. I'll try the 84% technique. – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 06:49, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
I emailed User:Midom who collects the underlying data. He answered that the disk had been filled, and he fixed it for now. --Sitacuisses (talk) 08:03, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- It's not fixed. Stats are still dropped off. Maile66 (talk) 00:42, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I saw the same problem and thought it was honestly the World Cup that was causing such sharp decreases. But then I checked the article for World Cup... Colipon+(Talk) 00:48, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- Couldn't be a better test page than World Cup. Maile66 (talk) 00:51, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I saw the same problem and thought it was honestly the World Cup that was causing such sharp decreases. But then I checked the article for World Cup... Colipon+(Talk) 00:48, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I think a good number of Wikipedia users, particularly editors, will go on withdrawal if this tool is ever disabled or malfunctions for an extended period of time. Has anyone ever thought about getting Wikipedia to formalize this tool? It's so bloody useful. Colipon+(Talk) 01:05, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I second that. It's useful for more than just satisfying curiosities. Maybe take it up at the pump or somewhere. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:07, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- There are plans to host the underlying data on a WMF- or Toolserver-operated server, and in a more acccessible format. I don't know how far along this process is. Emw (talk) 11:40, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- The ideal test page is of course the Main page: http://stats.grok.se/en/201006/Main_page
June 10: 4.5 million views, June 11: "2.8 million" views, June 12: "904 thousand" views
- You got that right! Maile66 (talk) 16:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- It is definitely some problem with Wikipedia; here are some wikistats to compare with Googlestats: Lady Gaga (compare with Google Insights), Barack Obama (compare with Google Insights), Eckhart Tolle (compare with Google Insights). What is important to find out is whether it is just a problem with the stats tool, or whether there is some problem with Wikipedia itself, which is actually stopping certain people from viewing Wikipedia pages. Gregcaletta (talk) 04:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Stats
Hi,
When viewing page statistics, what does the series of numbers mean? For example (http://stats.grok.se/en/201004/World_cup_competition) , it will say viewed 1,000 times in 201004. What's the 201004?
Could someone install Google Analytics to a wiki page?
Thanks!

for having developped stats.grok.se ! Two little hints : maybe some users would appreciate
- a field "1st quarter 2010" (and in some days, when the second quarter is through, also "2nd quarter 2010")
- a field (2010) saying (today) 1.1. - 23.6.2010
- a field "2009" (= 1.1. - 31.12.2009)
I would appreciate if I could type stats.grok.se/2009 and get the field last mentioned.
This, of course, just as a hint (from a industrious German WP editor) :-) --Neun-x (talk) 08:49, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
