Diplomatic missions in SPB

edit

Hi, I am working on diplomatic missions in Russia, and am trying to enlist the help of Wikipedians in the different Russian cities to provide photos which we can use on this article. As you are Saint Petersburg, I was wondering if you may be in the position to be able to take some photos of the various consulates in Saint Petersburg, so that we can use them on that article. Feel free to reply here, or on my talk page, if you need any more info. Cheers --Россавиа Диалог 18:58, 26 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

SPb University

Hi! I am a bit puzzled by this. The information is certainly needed, but are you sure that only about 4,000 students are undergraduates? What about the remaining 28,000 or so? Also please cite your sources. Colchicum (talk) 14:37, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Offical Site I am not sure of the post grads, because both Specialist and Bachelor–Masters Programs exist, and Masters are technically post grads... Hellinalj (talk) 15:02, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your input requested

edit

Hi. A proposal on the re-creation of WP:RUSSIA is currently underway at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Russia/Proposal. One of the main points is that we should have workgroups covering different topics. We are trying to ascertain the interest of editors in various workgroups under WP:RUSSIA, such as history, politics, biographical, etc; as your userpage indicates you are Russian or live in Russia, perhaps you can take a read of the proposal, comment on it wherever you have thoughts, and perhaps provide details of any Russian topics you may be interested and are willing to collaborate with other editors on? Your input is valued. Cheers. --Russavia Dialogue Stalk me 20:21, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adoption

edit

Hi Hellinalj! If you wish to accept my offer of adoption, then simply edit this section and tell me that you do! Many thanks, Schumi555 (talk) 11:25, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your offer, Schumi555 - I can use some help from an experienced editor. If you don’t mind, I have a couple of question about Wikipedia. Currently, I am translating articles about Swedish classical composers from Swedish Wiki. What should I do if the original article doesn’t have references? And as I am not a native speaker of English, I am not sure that my translations are good enough. So, where can I find a proofreader? Hellinalj (talk) 19:42, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Hellinalj I'm glad to be able to help you! I think the best thing to do if the original article doesn't have references then try and find references for your translated page in English. I think it is always better to have references in the same language as the article so that they can both be understood. Failing that, you can add references in another language, but be sure to add in brackets at the end which language this is. As for your translations, I am a native speaker of English and do quite a bit of proofreading in articles, so I would be happy to go through them for you if you could link me to the articles. Regards, Schumi555 (talk) 11:24, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations

edit

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal was to gather feedback to help design a tool that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

We are particularly interested in feedback from new editors! We want to make sure this tool meets your needs.

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 23:05, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!

Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.

Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)

Thank you for your time,

Victor Grigas
