Harvard class to work on Particle filter... how to do this?

I'm a student in a Harvard graduate class on Particle filters. We'd like to do some work on the article and related topics and sub-articles, and since I'm the most experienced wikipedian, I've been asked to be the liaison. Our plan is to start by creating sub-articles for various sections and getting those into good shape; then, once that's done, using that work as a basis to reorganize and rewrite the main article. I expect that most of us would log in, but I doubt it will be required. Probably a fair amount of the work would be done by various students in my userspace, with only final results pasted back out to article-space. Does this sound like a reasonable plan to you? Are you the right person to be talking to? What kind of general notice should we post about these intentions and where? Thanks, Homunq (࿓) 21:16, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

A question about using Wikipedia in an advanced translation course

Hi Helaine,

I want to build up the Haitian Kreyol WP. I see that a uni in Boston is offering an advanced translation course for Kreyol this summer. Would it make sense for them to practice their skills by translating English/ French WP articles to the Kreyol WP? If this makes sense, how might the WP Ed program be able to help the professor? @NegMawon: Thanks for being in touch. Wiki Ed does work with translation classes, but our tools only track work that students do on the English Wikipedia. If this class primarily works on translating articles from English into Creole, then I'm afraid our support might not be quite the right fit. If they do end up translating from Creole into English though, then we'd be happy to help. Developmental Psychopathology (PSYC 500) at UNC

Students in this class are doing an editing project, but some of the things they are trying to edit are featured articles, such as Alzheimer's disease, and as might be expected the edits are generally being reverted. It might be necessary for you or Ian to step in with advice -- mainly that edits to low-quality or low-traffic articles are far more likely to be accepted than edits to featured articles or high-traffic articles. Dear Helaine, Students in my class (UConn EEB 4215 Physiological Ecology of Animals) are preparing final versions of their additions to Wikipedia pages this week. Hi Helaine - I have a question about adding photos to my wiki article I am creating. I know I cant use basically all pictures from the internet, and I have one or two I found through google books that I want to use because there is no other option as there are no physical monuments in her name and she died in 1938...

Hi Helaine -- one of my students discovered an article with plagiarized text, namely Daughters of Liberty. She wants to edit the article as part of her work for the class assignment. Would it be acceptable for her to replace the current text with a stub instead? I want to credit her for finding the problem but she is already writing another new article and I don't expect her to write another one for the class assignment. I also don't want such a radical change in the article to trigger suspicion of vandalism etc. Please advise? Thanks.
