  • Oppose. The entire article text appears to be a copyright violation of this web page. Even as a user page, shouldn't this be speedy deleted as a copyvio? --DAJF (talk) 04:45, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • Update this information is approved by John Goldschmidt personally and by his company Viva Films Ltd and is certainly not a breach of copyright. Goldschmidt is willing to confirm this. The text is not a direct copy of the information on the Viva Films web page. The information regarding Goldschmidt's films is also confirmed by IMDB and by the Wikipedia links provided. Goldschmidt is a significant European film director/producer and this information should be included on WikipediaHeathergaston (talk)
      • Comment – If you have direct contact or association with John Goldschmidt and/or Viva Films, your work might be a WP:COI. ɠu¹ɖяy¤ • ¢  02:54, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Update I hope that this page (once the photo of John Goldschmidt has been re-added; see below) - will be ready to be moved and be a permanent Wikipedia page about John Goldschmidt. Thanks for all the continuing advice and help! Heathergaston (talk)
    • Still needs work. Refer to my last comment for things that need to be worked on. ɠu¹ɖяy¤ • ¢  19:27, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • Have changed the way John Goldschmidt's film titles are mentioned, by removing all in CAPS and instead including all the film titles in quotes (ie "Film Title"). Hope this final polish is what was required so that the page about the director/producer John Goldschmidt can now be moved. Thanks for all the advice and guidance! Heathergaston (talk)
    • Help please. How do I reduce the size of the re-uploaded photo of John Goldschmidt and then move this to the right of the content box, to improve the layout of the top of the page? Thanks!Heathergaston (talk)

{{helpme}} Is the page now ready to be moved? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks!Heathergaston (talk)

The first sentence is a copyright violation. Other parts are also copied. See Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing.
It has no references. These are essential, See WP:VRS and WP:CITE. The facts must be verifiable - we need a reference to reliable sources such as newspapers, so that we can check they are true. Chzz  ►  10:04, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
What Chzz said. And check some examples seen in other biographies, say, Helena Christensen. The requirement to cite sources in biographies is strict, as noted in the policy Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. In case nobody mentioned it, WP:Welcome to Wikipedia, and read WP:Five pillars, as well as WP:Writing your first article. --Lexein (talk) 10:45, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Followup - I see you've added a list of references at the end of the article. What's needed now is to make them WP:Inline citations. These are inserted in the article, after punctuation, immediately after the claim that's made. If a paragraph is covered, put the cite at the end of the para. Inline cites look like1 in the article when viewing and like this <ref>author (date) title. publisher</ref> or similar. If you only have a URL and a title, just write using this format: <ref>[http://example.com/examplearticlelink.html Example Article Title]</ref> for now. See WP:Citing sources for too much detail. Other formatting details can be cleaned up after you've matched up sources with claims! Cheers. --Lexein (talk) 16:24, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Goldschmidt.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Goldschmidt.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:06, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

John Goldschmidt page, requested move edit

Update Have now added many references, and identified relevant Wikipedia pages within the biographical text. Hope this polish has improved the page and that it is now ready to be moved, thanks for all the patient help and continuing advice. Heathergaston (talk)

I am concerned that the issue raised a week ago that the vast majority of this article is a copy-paste/paraphrased version and copyright violation of the Viva Films page has still not been addressed or satisfactorily answered. I suspect that was a major factor behind the administrator's decision to refuse the move request at this time. I'm afraid just vaguely stating that the text is "approved by John Goldschmidt personally" is not sufficient for Wikipedia, so you will need to address this as soon as possible. Less urgent but still important is the need to remove the adulatory tone and peacock wording to make the article more neutral and encyclopedic. As I see it, the article still needs a lot more work to bring it up to basic Wikipedia standards - not just "polishing". --DAJF (talk) 00:07, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have taken out the few words which could be seen as adulatory and hope this has dealt with this issue. The other information on the page are facts, which are confirmed by many references. That this information is also available from the film industry's key institutions is surely no reason not include all the relevant information here.Heathergaston (talk)
You have had over a week to resolve the copyright violation concerns raised, but do not seem to appreciate the problem, so I have taken this to Wikipedia:Copyright problems for a more formal resolution. (See below for details of how to proceed from here on.) --DAJF (talk) 12:51, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • I believe that the copyright problems have now been resolved, please look further below in the next section. I am keen for this page to be acceptable to Wikipedia so that it can be moved. I have followed all the advice I have been given, and sincerely hope that the page is now acceptable. Many thanks for all the patient advice and help. Heathergaston (talk)

Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at User talk:Heathergaston saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! --DAJF (talk) 12:51, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

The following email has been sent by John Goldschmidt to: permissions-en@wikimedia.org: "Heather Gaston has asked for and has been given permission by me and my company Viva Films Ltd to use the material I have provided (some of which is also available at our web page www.vivafilms.co.uk or elsewhere such as at IMDB.com) under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA) or a CC-BY-SA-compatible license or, if required, also under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). Please do be helpful and advise me what other steps I need to undertake to confirm my permission for the use of any of my material. Thanks! Very best wishes John Goldschmidt John@vivafilms.co.uk

I have unblanked the page as we have received and verified the email you sent - whenever you move the content from your userpage to an actual article, please let me know so that I can add an appropriate notice to the article's talk page so that it will not be marked as a possible copyright violation. Cheers! VernoWhitney (talk) 13:42, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
As the copyright issue has been resolved and you have added reliable sources I have gone ahead and moved the article to John Goldschmidt. If there's anything else you need, please let me know at my talk page. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:02, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
