Book class and WPReligion banner

If you can make the adjustments for Book-class to Template:WPReligion, I could probably copy them into the banners of the various other religion projects, and maybe a few others as well. John Carter (talk) 01:26, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Sure thing. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 05:37, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Deprecated parameter fixes

I know Template talk:Unicite/Archive1 is an archive. But we are fixing over 18,000 pages, and this is really minor, so it should not be a problem. If this archive stay, it will just clutter the category page that is supposed to aid in detecting new instances. Please take all this into account and reconsider. Debresser (talk) 01:46, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I really appreciate your consideration. Debresser (talk) 02:04, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
No problem. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 02:04, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Print version double PDF

At Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga#Book-class, you said that Wikipedia:Books/Anime and Manga's 1200+ pages of PDF would be double its size in print. Shouldn't the size be halved, assuming the book is printing the pages double sided? Extremepro (talk) 22:21, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

It still is double the number of pages, even if physically you can print two pages per sheet. The reason is that books are smaller than printer pages. They are 8 in × 5.5 in vs. 8+12 in &times 11 in for printer pages, so they essentially have 2.125 times less area (not taking margins into considerations). Template:Icon

Hi, not sure if you saw my comment on the talk page or not. Just to clarify, the book icon and others have not been removed from the template, and {{icon|book}} continues to work just fine ( ). I did remove it from the documentation however, simply because such icons are more usually covered by {{classicon}}. Regards. PC78 (talk) 18:54, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Book-class

Hi Headbomb, could I draw your attention to the new syntax I have developed which will enable accurate documentation and category prompting to work? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:08, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

It didn't work before? Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 15:43, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Nope. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:25, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Well it seems to work fine for me. Although I usually created the book-class category first, so that may explain why. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 16:33, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Gérard Jones

Hi! You declined my A7 on Gérard Jones with "that's not A7." No text in the article seems to assert notability under WP:BIO. It lists some of his accomplishments and positions, but I don't see anything that points to any specific notability criteria. It's total spam, too, and I don't doubt that an AfD would succeed, but I just wanted to see what I was missing. Thanks! --SquidSK (1MClog) 17:49, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

And here's the AfD discussion, in case you'd care to comment. --SquidSK (1MClog) 17:55, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
A7 is for an "article about a real person [...] that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant." Accomplishments and positions are indications of the why the person is important or significant, whether his accomplishment/positions indeed make him notable is a different question. Send the article to WP:AfD if you think he's not notable. Notability will then be probably be debated, and people might dig other stuff about Jones that makes him notable even in your eyes.
An example of an article that could be deleted under A7 would be something like "Jim Paul is a government official from North Dakota born in 1968. He started as a private consultant, but in 1999 he started working for the State of North Dakota. He is married, and has two children."
I hope that clarifies. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 18:03, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: article alerts help

Re: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Antarctica/British Antarctic Territory work group (→Article alerts:  ::BTW I notice that you tried to implement the article alerts but changed your mind. If you need help with them, just leave me a message on my talk page (I'm not watching the page). Headbomb

  • Hi, thank you for offering to help. I did indeed try to get alerts but although I have knowledge of web design outside of Wikipedia I'm not yet versed on on how to do it here and would very much like to learn. What I was looking for was to create a page similar to the WP:NORWAY page. If you or anyone you know might be able to point me in the right direction I would be most thankful. Sincerely, (Ice Explorer (talk) 05:09, 7 December 2009 (UTC))
Well a good place to start is to look at the raw text used to generated the page at WP:NORWAY and copy-paste it on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Antarctica/British Antarctic Territory work group page, replacing any "WikiProject Norway" with "WikiProject Antarctica/British Antarctic Territory work group". You'll get a bunch of redlinks probably, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Antarctica/British Antarctic Territory work group/leftpanel. What you need to do in this case is go at the equivalent WP:NORWAY page (in this case, Wikipedia:WikiProject Norway/leftpanel, and copy the raw text of that page to Wikipedia:WikiProject Antarctica/British Antarctic Territory work group/leftpanel). Also, read WP:TRANSCLUSION since these play a big part of the code you'll encounter.
After that's done, you can update the text (and categories) to reflect the fact that you are not WikiProject Norway. To setup the article alerts, you can check the documentation at Wikipedia:Article alerts/Subscribing, or alternatively I could also set them up. Cheers! (Ice Explorer (talk) 05:35, 7 December 2009 (UTC))
OK, I've set up the Project page but I'm not sure about the automatic updates. Could you have a look at the page Wikipedia:WikiProject Antarctica/British Antarctic Territory work group please. (Ice Explorer (talk) 09:18, 9 December 2009 (UTC))
Wow, looks reallly good. Anyway I've set up the alerts correctly (you'll need to wait a day or two for Article Alerts to display), and the cleanup listings might take a bit long (from days to months, depending on when B. Wolterding runs his bot.)
I've also made some slight tweaks to some things, since you probably don't need a dedicated Brit. Ant. Terr. portal. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 14:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! (Ice Explorer (talk) 16:21, 9 December 2009 (UTC))

DASHBot

Hey there, remember that bot request from a while ago about a bot moving pages that contain hyphens? Well i filed a BRFA and i'd appreciate you're input. here is the link Tim1357 (talk) 06:11, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Kazuhiko Nishijima

The article Kazuhiko Nishijima you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold  . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Kazuhiko Nishijima for things which need to be addressed. Jezhotwells (talk) 12:36, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

You've mentioned this before on IRC.

Help if you wish. :) —La Pianista 06:24, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Contributing to Wiki Acoustics

I want to write articles in the field of acoustics and ultrasound. I saw there is a need for experts to edit the Acoustic radiation force page. I am an expert in the specific topic, I designed and built ARF systems for about 5 years and I have the appropriate theoretical and applicative background. See my Schlieren imaging article. I am a physicist, M.Sc. from the Technion, Israel Institute for Technology. However, I am new to Wiki and I need some guidance. Are you paying for professionals? --Shmuel Benezra (talkcontribs) 11:16, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia is a volunteer effort for the most part, so there is no pay. As far as editing articles goes, just find articles that interest you and improve them as best you can (but be mindful of conflicts of interest). If you create new articles, please place {{physics}} on the talk page, or {{physics|acoustics=yes}} if they are acoustics related, and someone will review the article (takes a few days usually).
If you are looking for stuff to do, consider going through the Acoustic taskforce's cleanup listing, which is a list of acoustics-related articles that need work. You can also go through "lower-quality" articles (Category:Acoustics articles by quality) and see if you can improve them.
Good places to go for help are Wikiproject Physics (which has a "quick help" table that might be of use to you) and its Acoustic taskforce.
Anything else? Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 15:46, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Journal infobox

Hi, if you leave out the title field, it will default to the article title, so it is not necessary to list if the article title is identical to the journal title. If you leave away the language field, it will default to English instead of to English. Cheers! --Crusio (talk) 04:33, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Ah, thanks. The title however I'll leave so if the page is moved you don't end up with an infobox saying "Acta Foobar (journal)" or similar. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 04:35, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that's a good point, I'll do that in future, too. --Crusio (talk) 04:37, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Hum. Mutat.

I moved the discussion for Hum. Mutat., which you nominated for deletion today (diff), to the correct daily log page. The discussion is now located at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2009 December 29#Hum. Mutat.. Cheers, –BLACK FALCON (TALK) 21:34, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Recognized Content Bot

I believe it's working. Please look at the following pages:

Let me know what you think. If you see any problems or have suggestions, I'll update the code. Once that's done, I'll submit it for bot approval and then it can be used by projects. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:20, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

That looks splendid! Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 22:26, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll submit the bot request. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:32, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

The task was approved. I implemented it on Wikipedia:WikiProject Physics/Recognized content and ran the bot. I matched what was already there. If you want a different configuration, go ahead and update it. I have the page watch listed and if I see a change, I'll re-run the task. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:51, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
