Help request about user pages edit

How can I make my own sandbox? Which other pages can I have, and how can it be done? (Excuse my poor English, please)--Mirabella Star 18:31, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Userspace pages

You can create as many user subpages as you like, to work on articles, experiment, etc. The easiest way to do this is to create links to the non-existent pages on your user page, and then click on them to create them. For example, you could put this on your user page;

* User:He-l-en1959/test1
* User:He-l-en1959/test2
* User:He-l-en1959/test3
* User:He-l-en1959/test4
* User:He-l-en1959/sausages
* flowers
* berries
* Armada

That will display as;

Those will all be red for now, because they do not exist. You can click on them and make them.

You can make as many user subpages as you like, and give them any name. By having the links on your user page, it will be convenient to access them.

For more help, you can either;

 • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
 • Use a helpme - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put helpme, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
 • Talk to us live, with this or this.

Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  18:37, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Image Help edit

How can I add a picture to my article? Where and how can I discover the picture which I am in need of? User:He-l-en1959--Mirabella Star 15:00, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Most pictures found on the Internet are copyrighted and can't be uploaded. You may be able to find a picture on Wikimedia Commons, and use that in your article, since all files on Commons are compatible with Wikipedia's license. To use a file, you do where Filename is the name of the file on commons. Gigs (talk) 15:58, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

List of Transformers: Armada episodes edit

I am editing the article «List of Transformers: Armada episodes». This article is 71 kilobites now. Does it mean that it is too long for a Wiki article? If so, may I divide it into two (for example)? And how can I do this?--Mirabella Star 11:52, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. When you mention a link, please put it in double square brackets, ie List of Transformers: Armada episodes, so that it makes a link to the article like this: List of Transformers: Armada episodes
i agree, that article is getting too long. You could convert this one into a main article that just had one paragraph for each season, and create sub-articles for each season. The main article would then have a template in each section, e.g. List of Transformers: Armada episodes season 1 - which would look like this;
See WP:SUMMARY for more details.  Chzz  ►  11:58, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can I do this (i.e., create sub-articles) just in the existing article, or is it necessary to make them anew in my test page?--Mirabella Star 13:18, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

I'd probably do it one season at a time, something like this;
 • Write a summary of season 1 in my own sandbox
 • Edit the article, add my summary para and the template header, and at the same time cut out the detailed season one, and save that
 • Click on the red link that the 'main' thing has created
 • Paste in the thing that I'd cut out, and re-format it as a new article, save that
 • Tidy it up - add it to categories and that sort of thing
Hope that makes sense? Feel free to try it; be bold - and ask if you get stuck or need any help.  Chzz  ►  13:23, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
P.S. If it all sounds complicated, please do ask again, and I'll happily change the first season to that format for you, if you want.  Chzz  ►  13:28, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Excuse me, but I fear I am too stupid to understand all these tricks till I see the example doing by my own eyes…--Mirabella Star 13:54, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

  Doing... No problem at all; I thought that it might be easier to show you what I mean by example. I'll do it now, and let you know.  Chzz  ►  13:58, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  Done Have a look what I've done; I hope it will make more sense now. I only put a very brief note in List of Transformers: Armada episodes, about the first 3 episodes, and it should really contain one or two paragraphs describing the whole season. I hope this illustrates the idea. Also note the template I've added to the talk page on both the main article Talk:List of Transformers: Armada episodes, and the new article Talk:List of Transformers: Armada episodes season 1.  Chzz  ►  14:14, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

reply edit

I have just moved our previous conversations from my talk page and into my archive; it is now in List of Transformers: Armada episodes - please don't edit that, because it is an archive - instead, to contact me, please start a new thread on my talk page.

You asked me to take a look at the articles; I think that the most important things are what I wrote before;

A few things that you could do;

 • In List of Transformers: Armada episodes#Season 1 - when I added the 'see main' thing, I wrote a single sentence as an example - The first season began with a 3-part series, "First Encounter", "Metamorphosis" and "Base".. There should actually be a couple of paragraphs that summarize the whole sub-article. That is the idea of 'summary style' - the sub-article contains all the detail, but the main article should say 'see main article', but also needs a summary.

For an example of this, see World War II and the links from it - because it is split into many articles. The points is, the "Main article: List of Transformers: Armada episodes season 1" should be followed by 2 or 3 paragraphs summarizing the season.

 • Next, to make the new sub-article more encyclopaedic, you could add facts about the article - perhaps at the top, before the plot detail. For example, when did it first air, on what network? Are there viewing figures, did it win any awards, what did critics think of it, who were the voice-actors - that sort of thing. Of course, this information should be referenced to reliable sources, such as newspaper articles.

 • It would probably be good to make the descriptions of each episode a little shorter, and put them into a table format.

Transformers episodes edit

There is no reason to split the article like that. The summaries are currently too large, so cutting them down will also bring the size down as well. You should use List of The Transformers episodes as an example. TTN (talk) 01:57, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

tv.com sometimes has that information. If it doesn't, just try a searching on Google. Articles are only split if the size is too large and the information is properly managed. The article is very large, but cutting down the summaries will drastically reduce the size of it. For that reason, it doesn't need to be split. TTN (talk) 18:07, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just as an example, take the Bleach episode lists as noted above. The summaries are an appropriate length, but combining all of them into a single list would make for an extremely long article, so the separate seasons are appropriate. This list, on the other hand, will be fine once the episodes summaries are trimmed. TTN (talk) 18:11, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
You can start off by simply adding the tables as seen in the other episode lists. I suggest asking Mathewignash to help you clean up the information and find the other details. He is the only other person I've seen who has a real interest in Transformers. TTN (talk) 18:25, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I've returned to ask something! edit

I want to create a new category. How can I do this? --Mirabella Star 16:46, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Are there already enough articles is articles-space (="live") for that? If not, wait until there are enough, otherwise read Help:Category mabdul 18:01, 9 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

How can I mark the article I'm editing now (it isn't perfectly ready in that very moment)? --Mirabella Star 17:29, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

You can put inuse which asks other people not to edit it, but you shouldn't leave that on for more than an hour or two: or you can use underconstruction which indicates that you plan to do more on the article and discourages others from marking it for deletion - that will get removed if you do not edit the article for several days. Click on the links to read more about them before using them. If you are starting a new article but expect to take some time developing it, the best way is to make a userspace draft - se Help:Userspace draft. JohnCD (talk) 17:38, 23 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
