October 2019 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or self-promoting in violation of the conflict of interest and notability guidelines.

Request reason:

I understand that I was blocked for making direct edits to pages for clients for which I was getting paid. I thought the right procedure was to disclose my relationships and then it was fine if the edits and content were neutral and non-promotional. I understand now that I should not make direct edits to any pages for which I have a paid relationship or other conflict of interest

Decline reason:

Procedural decline due to duplicate unblock requests Chetsford (talk) 05:22, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Accept reason:

The editor notes the issue with their original edits and has clearly taken the time to familiarize themselves with the correct process for future edits. While the editor is probably only ever going to be a COI editor, I'm convinced they're clear on the process for making edit requests and using AfC. Chetsford (talk) 15:34, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Hdkuehl - thank you for your cooperation and your unusually swift understanding of the issue of WP:PAID. I see that you did, in fact, make a disclosure prior to editing so thank you for doing that. Can you verify how, in the future, you would propose edits to pages with which you had a COI? I imagine that, if we could just verify you understand the correct procedure, we could unblock you forthwith as this seems to be a case of misunderstanding of policy rather than malicious intent. Chetsford (talk) 05:26, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Chetsford: Hi - Thank you for your response. I have a lot of respect for Wikipedia's mission and want to do this right. From the documentation I've reviewed (the wiki on Conflict of Interest and the CoI Noticeboard, specifically), it looks like I should suggest revisions to a page using that page's talk page and the request edit template, vs. making the changes myself. I should also disclose my relationship on the talk page and whenever discussing those changes, in addition to keeping my user page updated with that info. For new pages, I should use the Articles for Creation process. I started the process right for the Losant page I just wrote, but what I did wrong was 1) I should have added a note to the talk page about my connection 2) I should have added the code to submit the draft for review and waited for someone else to take a look, instead of moving it to live myself. I think I"m understanding the process correctly now, but please let me know if I'm still off. I appreciate your patience. Hdkuehl (talk) 14:51, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hdkuehl - it sounds like you're familiar with the process! Thanks for taking the time to review it, 90% of people don't. You may also want to review WP:EDITREQ and feel free to use Template:Request edit since requests limited to the Talk page may not always attract third-party editor attention. You are now unblocked.
