Little Big Inch deletion question

I apologize for the trouble. I'm still learning. My posting today on the Big Inch article was intended to add what I thought was an interesting detail. I quoted directly from my article (written with assistance of volunteers) posted on my website. I will further study how to use Wikipedia before posting again. Should I have used my name in the citation to prevent the deletion? I do not want to appear self-serving, but my AOGHS.org website has many interesting and carefully researched articles. PetroleumAge, hi! I thought the bit about the balls was interesting as well (although it wasn't clear from the original article if they were actually used during the war or not, or where the original source of the information was, which is important if an article is self-published).

The key issue was the copyright of the original text... Material added to the wiki is released for others to use under a Creative Commons license, which gives very wide rights for its use and reuse. The addition was copied almost word from word from a webpage copyrighted by Bruce A. Wells, and you can't add copyrighted material onto the wiki without the copyright holder's explicit permission (and, if an article was produced with the assistance of other writers, they may have rights as well that need to be factored in, unless they have also given permission for their material to be used).

The trick is usually to paraphrase - rewriting the material in your own words, rather than cut and pasting. How could you add in the key information, ideally referring back to the original sources, without re-using the copyrighted text? Hchc2009 (talk) 17:16, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I suppose I appreciate you took the trouble to provide some kind of rationale in the edit summary[1], but I think you were basically saying "I didn't like your change". More to the point, I think you will find that "the removal of the title of the article" doesn't hold much water, as there is no point in putting self explanatory article titles in boldface. I didn't make this up either, it's WP:MOS, more precisely WP:BOLDITIS.

So please whatever else you have to say about "paragraph breaks" and "unreferenced material" (really? in the lead? So, I didn't give a reference that the Norman invasion was in 1066 or something?) please at least revert yourself to the extent of getting rid of "The electrical characteristics of a dynamic loudspeaker are a dynamic loudspeaker driver's electrical characteristics" type of intro. Yes, I mean the sentence "England in the Middle Ages concerns the history of England during the medieval period" you reverted to, do you seriously propose this sounds intelligent or encyclopedic? --dab (𒁳) 20:14, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

User:Hchc2009/Sandbox3 is looking good, so I've removed the old version from my sandbox. I would suggest moving it into the article (removing the current bullet lists) and letting others see what they think. Great work on this. I have a bit of time over the next couple of days and will look at it again. In particular there are still a few "citation needed" tags I will try to find support for & would be a quick fail at GAC. The size and depth of the article may put off some reviewers so may take a while to get taken up (but I could be wrong & I can think of a few GA reviewers I would be very happy to see volunteer for it). It can't do any harm to approach Lincoln & Salisbury to ask. I would even highlight the particular images which would be most useful (I'm not sure this is particularly useful but maybe this one). They may or may not be aware of CC licencing so may be worth including a link to the licence info (but something more explanatory than Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Free licenses, maybe GNU Free Documentation License or similar).— Rod ^talk 17:18, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

In "Great Charter of 1216" do we know which Pope Honorius it was? presumably Pope Honorius III but I wanted to check before wikilinking. Yep, was Honorius IIII. Guala seems to be consistently referred to by his first name in the histories, but I'm not sure if this is a cardinal issue (as princes of the church, is there a separate convention?), a specific 1215 thing, or whether there were several Bicchieris at the time... I realise this is a long shot and going back a long way, but thought I'd ask just in case. The article Margaret Hughes has a number of references to various pages of 'Spencer' but the full reference is not given. According to the page history, you introduced these references in January, 2010. It looks likely to me that this is Charles Spencer, Prince Rupert: The Last Cavalier, Phoenix, 2008.
