Potential username policy violation

edit

Thank you for your interest in editing Wikipedia. A concern has been raised that your user name appears to violate our username policy as it contains a reference to a company, group or organization (in this case an acronym). While it may not be your intent to do so, these types of usernames are often considered promotional and are thus not permitted. In order to continue editing Wikipedia without interruption, please address the concern using one of the following methods:

  • The simplest method is to create a new account with a username that meets our policy.
  • If you would like to keep your existing edit history connected to your account, you can also request to have your username changed to one that is acceptable.
  • If you believe the concern to be incorrect and can explain how your username meets our policy, you may do so here.

In order to prevent your account from being blocked from further editing, please address this concern as soon as possible. It may also be helpful for you to review our policies regarding advertising and potential conflicts of interest to help avoid further misunderstandings.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns. Shereth 17:07, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Haywood Community College has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.facebook.com/pages/Clyde-NC/Haywood-Community-College/119425553084 (matching the regex rule \bfacebook\.com).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 15:05, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Haywood Community College. While objective prose about products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Thank you. Please also note that you may not control what is on the HCC page on Wikipedia. Please do not remove content that is referenced. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:50, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Username blocked

edit

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes, as well as attempting to control the content of the Haywood Community College article, where you have an obvious conflict of interest. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. You have violated one or more of our rules, including rules against adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, using Wikipedia for promotion, and editing inappropriately with a conflict of interest. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia's policies. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-coiun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:14, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
