Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Hassanbeem. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Ultimate Heliport, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:14, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi DoubleGrazing. I don't have any external relationship with the Ultimate Heliport, but I have flown (as a passenger in a helicopter) from the Heliport several times. Previously I have flown extensively (as a passenger) out of Lanseria, Grand Central Airport, and Jack Taylor Airfield in Krugersdorp. As I was in the South African Airforce in the 1990s, I still love flying (although I don't pilot anything myself!) This is why I wrote the article, because I believe within the South African and aviation context that this is a Wikipedia-worthy article, as it is the only "airport" solely for the use of helicopters. Also, the fact that it is situated in South Africa's economic hub.

There don't seem to be many other articles (apart from the ones I was able to source) about the heliport yet, as it is only three years old. At the same time, to be honest, there are very few articles about any airports in South Africa. Yesterday I edited a page about Ulundi Airport, which was shockingly researched, and yet exists on Wikipedia.

Please do let me know if you have any other advice re this page, in terms of making it useable within the Wikipedia context. Thank you so much for your time and assistance. Hassanbeem (talk) 10:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)hassanbeemReply

Okay, thanks for explaining all that; we're good, as far as I'm concerned. :)
As for advice, I would probably get rid of that 'Newsworthy' section. It sounds a little bit promotional, and also I don't think any of the content is particularly notable, which makes it seem like a WP:COATRACK for hanging extra references. I'm not saying you have to get rid of it, that's your call of course; I'm just saying I probably would. HTH, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:40, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Image provenance

edit

Hi — when reviewing Draft:Ultimate_Heliport, I noticed that you had uploaded the image used there as your 'own work', but a Google image search shows that it appears on a number of websites, including that of the company in question. One explanation for this could be that the image isn't your own work, and you've found it on the internet. Another possibility is that you have taken the picture and licensed its use on all those other sites, including the company owning or operating the heliport (in which case you can presumably show proof of this?). Yet another, that you are somehow connected with the said company. (There may be other possibilities also, but none come to mind right now.) Would you care to comment? Thanks, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:39, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi DoubleGrazing. Yes, my mistake completely, I did find it on the Internet. As a new editor, I just didn't understand what was allowed in terms of photos. If this article ultimately gets approved, I will go and take my own photo to use (as I am an amateur photographer myself). Thank you for the input! Hassanbeem (talk) 10:40, 2 August 2021 (UTC)hassanbeemReply
Okay, understood. If you haven't yet done so, you should probably request for the images to be deleted, to clear up any copyright issues. --DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:35, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hassenbeem, you also might find it interesting to investigate the category Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in South Africa. —valereee (talk) 12:37, 3 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Done thank you, Valereee, I've just finished uploading a few photos to South African sites and will keep my eye open for more... Hassanbeem (talk) 18:35, 3 August 2021 (UTC)hassanbeemReply

That's great! Wikimedia Commons is always looking for images, especially in areas we don't have as many editors. As you can imagine, getting images of American celebrities is easy. :) You may see your photos being used in multiple other language wikis. I love that rabbit in the ear photo! —valereee (talk) 18:47, 3 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Bernice West moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Bernice West, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) In addition, there appears to be a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 19:42, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
