A note on how Wikipedia works edit

Hi, I see you have not only added claims to articles without citing any sources, but have reverted other editors who rightly objected to that with the edit comment that you knew a subject personally, and by implication did not need to provide any evidence. I'm afraid that's not allowed here. Using personal knowledge such as statements from people you know is at best hearsay, at worst Original Research, which is forbidden on Wikipedia. This is because other editors will be unable to verify any such claim: please take a look at the policy on Verifiability, which is central to how Wikipedia works. What we do is to make claims in an article only when these are based, indeed only when fully justified, by the text in Reliable Sources, cited directly in the article. I do hope this is clear as it is critical to all editing: everything you do here must be driven by the need to ensure that articles are verifiably accurate. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:21, 30 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ah, now you've tried citing Wikipedia (Zeb Kyffin) in a reference (in Chiswick). The problem is, that Wikipedia is not itself a suitable source, as it cannot be assumed to be reliable. Why is that? Because it can be edited by anybody, and we don't know if "anybody" is well-informed, forgetful, boastful, commercially-minded, a propagandist, joking, or simply mad. So, we have to insist they are well-informed, by requiring them to cite suitable reliable sources which anyone else can verify, i.e. check that the sources exist and have been described and interpreted correctly. I do hope this is clear as it is the way the whole of Wikipedia works: if you can't do this, I'm afraid you can't edit.
To sum up (and to repeat): you MUST cite reliable external sources, like a textbook, a national newspaper, the website of a major institution like a national museum, or a peer-reviewed academic research paper. This is ESSENTIAL. Many thanks for your time and for your understanding. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:29, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Alex Luhrs moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Alex Luhrs, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ... discospinster talk 02:21, 24 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Michael Gill (cyclist) edit

Heyo, I see you created Michael Gill (cyclist) good job. However this cyclist does not meet notability requirement according to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cycling/Consensus_decisions#Notability_guideline_update or Wikipedia:Notability_(sports)#Cycling. The rider does not also seem notable when I googled looking for sources. All his wins are at amateur level. I found maybe some info about his track results where he placed 2nd or 1st in U23 but nothing that would prove he is notable. In order for the page to remain you should try to find something notable about him. Cheers Paulpat99 (talk) 23:12, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Lewis Elsdon, 1st Duke of Muggleswick edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Lewis Elsdon, 1st Duke of Muggleswick requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about something invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally, and it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Speedy deletion nomination of Lewis Elsdon, 1st Duke of Muggleswick edit

Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing hoaxes, such as Lewis Elsdon, 1st Duke of Muggleswick, is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. If you would like to make test edits, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.

October 2022 edit

Please do not create, maintain or restore hoaxes on Wikipedia. If you are interested to know how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements already in Wikipedia – and, if possible, correct them. Please do not disrupt Wikipedia. Continued disruption will be met with sanctions, which could include a block from editing. Feel free to take a look at the five pillars of Wikipedia to learn more about this project and how you can contribute constructively. Thank you. VickKiang (talk) 21:22, 18 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Your recent edit to John Spence Community High School appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 07:04, 22 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Paulpat99 (talk) 01:58, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
