NPOV, Fringe, etc. edit

Ad Orientem, Canada Jack, EEng, Location this is a near-final draft of Assassination of John F. Kennedy that will soon exit my userspace. I plan on nominating it for FA status so that it can appear on the front page for the 60th anniversary this November. If you have the time/energy, could you tell me if there are any major neutrality or fringe theory issues--anything that would sink a nomination. Any other comments would be appreciated as well. (Note: I haven't finished the Dallas police and Warren Commission subsections and want to revise some of the November 22 subsections, remove some primary sources, and make the refs consistent.) Thanks, ~ HAL333 20:53, 18 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

You've done a huge amount of work -- your sandbox shows 1500 edits! But that's only the first 1/3 of the job, because now you need to get your changes accepted, and there's no way that will happen by having your new version just plop in to replace the existing one (which I think is what you mean by "exit my userspace"), no matter how high its quality -- because a giant diff between those two version is impossible to grok. Plus, this is a highly watched article on one of the most controverted events in world history, so every change you've made will come under intense scrutiny, and there will likely be much arguing.
So...
  • First give those you pinged above time to look over your new version for anything we can see.
  • Then introduce you new version section by section or, where need be, paragraph by paragraph. Wherever possible the diff of each edit should be such that it's easy to see what you've done.
    • Try to make your edit summaries descriptive (though sometimes "ce" is as descriptive as it gets).
    • Leave the lead section for last, since it depends on everything else. Also, if you've reordered sections or paragraphs, leave that to the end as well.
    • Start by installing one of your new sections (the one with the simplest changes, or on the least controversial aspect of the topic), then wait a day. Gradually accelerate or decelerate your rate according to how other editors respond.
If you start right now, with luck you'll have everything integrated, and be ready to nominate for FA, in September. I'm not exaggerating.

With little thought, I was planning on making the change 'quick-and-dirty'. But I think adding it stepwise is a great idea. I'll let those pinged above look over it for a few days -- I think starting with the addition of the "Ramsey Clark Panel" would be a good place to start. It's pretty cut and dry. ~ HAL333 04:51, 19 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Here's what would happen if you tried to install the new version in one single go:  .It's a little late for me to be saying this, but it probably would have been better had you just made the changes directly in the article. EEng 05:25, 19 June 2023 (UTC) P.S. I took a crack at copyediting. I've got a lot going on IRL so ping me now and then to get me to do it bit more.Reply
  • (Note: the non-sequitur mosque image was just a placeholder for the fair use Zapruder image that I already added to the mainspace.) ~ HAL333 02:27, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
    That probably wasn't a good idea. Next time try https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Image_placeholders . EEng 08:20, 27 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • How's the merging into the live article going? EEng 08:20, 27 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Very well. I've essentially merged the entire thing. I plan on rewriting a few sections and improving some of the spotty sourcing, but I should be able to send it off as a FAC very soon. ~ HAL333 16:38, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
After that I'd recommend posting to the talk page saying, "In case someone missed it, over the past few weeks I've [blah blah blah blah blah]. I hope everyone with an interest in the article take a few minutes to look over the changes and fix or correct anything I've screwed up, or raise any other issues here. Thanks!" -- something like that. Great work. EEng 01:08, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
    Will do! Thanks, ~ HAL333 16:24, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
