Speedy deletion nomination of Ray Rogers (labor activist)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ray Rogers (labor activist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ttonyb (talk) 05:37, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Ray Rogers (labor activist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Re Ray Rogers

First, good work on starting the Ray Rogers page ... I've added the University category (Category:University of Massachusetts alumni) ... however, it would be best if we were specific. Do you know, or can find out, which campus (of the five-campuses) he earned his degree? Thx -- Luigibob (talk) 19:01, 7 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Gwirth ... good to know you. Yes, while I'm not an Admin, I took off the tag after I found a few citations & the external link to Democracy Now! Moreover, I made links to the award winning American Dream (which I've edited quite a bit). To be sure there is a steep learning curve to mastering the ins and outs of editing on Wiki .... in fact I was alerted to your editing because you linked to the wrong Ray Rogers on American Dream (it's on my watch list, needless to say) ...Regardless, the cat is notable, and the other editors/Admins were able to see that (or so I believe). There's many reasons why your article was dealt as it was. I made the same kind of mistakes when I edited my first article (I was not writing from a neutral POV). It appears you are interested in labor and social issues (as I am) so I would edit pages (see Labor Portal) to get a handle on editing before starting a NEW page. Or, you'll run into the same kinds of problems and get frustrated. If you need any help do get in touch, and if you need an Admin I've got a good relationship with a few. Remember try to cite everything you can. For the sake of the Wiki project I hope your recent edits (focused on one person) are not a one time deal. For me it's a nice hobby. ♦ Luigibob ♦ "Talk to Luigi!" 05:24, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
