Your edits to Fred Halsted

i'd appreciate if you would explain why you converted Filmography to Partial Filmography and removed films. Thank you. deisenbe (talk) 08:23, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

The policy of the Pornography Project on Filmographies is that they be partial. When I encounter long lists of credits, I usually try & trim them back as much as possible. I'm not a huge fan of limiting Filmographies to "six films at most", but I do almost always trim them back, especially if those credits have already been mentioned somewhere else in the existing text of the article. Basically as long as there's a listing of filmography databases in the External Links section of an article, there doesn't need to be an extensive listing of credits in the article itself. Guy1890 (talk) 03:33, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

The IMDB is not a reliable source

Hi there. It looks like you're adding a lot of citations to the IMDB. The problem is that this is not a reliable source. In fact, it's explicitly listed as unreliable ("This includes any website whose content is largely user-generated, including the Internet Movie Database (IMDB)". You should definitely avoid ever using content from the IMDB in a BLP, as the IMDB is user-generated content. This is especially true of content like trivia and bios, but even the credits/filmographies are error-prone and user-submitted. It's like citing Wikipedia itself. If you need help finding citations, WP:FILM/R can be useful. I would suggest Variety as a first stop for mainstream films. For independent films, Indiewire is often good. Databases like Allmovie and Baseline can also be helpful. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:15, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

I am aware of many of the longstanding disagreements over IMDb on Wikipedia, and I never use citations from their "trivia and bio" sections. IMHO, IMDb is a fine source for simply whether or not a particular person appeared in a film or TV show, and that's really all that I've ever used IMDb for as a citation. I'm also aware of the WikiProject Film Resources page, and I have tried to use it as well in the past. Guy1890 (talk) 03:24, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Disagreements? WP:RS is pretty explicit, like I said. The IMDB is not reliable. If you think this should be changed, you're free to request a change to the guideline to allow user-submitted content, but there's strong consensus against this. I don't know how to make this any clearer: when you cite the IMDB, you're doing the same thing as citing a Wikipedia article. So, please don't cite the IMDB, especially in a biography. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:29, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
You can safely stop citing your own opinion here on my talk page please. Like I said, I am aware of the controversy over using IMDb as a citation for certain info (the subject comes up pretty routinely on the Reliable Sources Noticeboard), but there really isn't a complete ban on using IMDb as a source entirely. Guy1890 (talk) 03:36, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Reply to Amia Miley AfD

I didnt get to respond before it was closed. That seems like a non-transparent method of using WP:BIO. One could theoretically edit out all the relevant content in the bios related to their profession in order for the articles not to be subject to PORNBIO. A number of them could pass under general bio guidelines.--Savonneux (talk) 07:50, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

Well, if one wanted to try & game the system and basically be dishonest about whether or not someone was involved in the adult film industry (and PORNBIO is explicit in that it says right off the bat: "The following criteria should be brought up in a Wikipedia:Articles for deletion discussion only in relation to subjects who are or have been involved in the pornography industry."), then one might try & get away with that kind of strategy. People that are involved in the adult film industry can be evaulated under a number of different criteria, depending on what their career path has been...film directors, crossover mainstream actors/actresses, politicans (which is rare but not unheard of), etc.. Wikipedia's mirad of inclusion guidelines make it difficult (IMHO) to contribute much useful commentary at AfD in any areas that one has not extensively edited in previously.
What I think that you basically tried to do (probably without knowing it) in the Amia Miley AfD was to make an argument along the lines of: "Has been featured multiple times in notable mainstream media" under PORNBIO (which is basically similar to a GNG-pass argument), but no one else latched onto that argument, which is how many of these AfDs go, especially when they are populated with editors/administrators that have had a long-term anti-porn bias when it comes to Wikipedia content. It's sad, but unfortunately true... Guy1890 (talk) 08:29, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:55, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Done! I only ended up supporting 5 candidates though. Guy1890 (talk) 09:21, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Flashpoint (1998 film), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page AFDB. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

AfD for studios?

Thanks for working on Raging Stallion Studios and CzechBoys. I was going to put them up for deletion, but if you think you can get notability clearly met then I'll let them be. Were you planning on working more on them? --Ronz (talk) 16:01, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

FWIW, Raging Stallion Studios has won several XBIZ Awards. I am not an expert at all on gay pornography, but I've never previously heard of the other European studio. Guy1890 (talk) 03:39, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Cite parameter formatting

FYI, the |work= parameter in citation templates defaults to italics, so by adding them to the field's contents (like you've done in at least 2 articles), you are un-italicizing. Obviously book, magazine and newspaper titles like The Telegraph should be italicized. Also, please be careful about overlinking common words, like contempt or apprentice. Thanks. — TAnthonyTalk 05:28, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Kitty Jung

Saw your comments on Kitty Jung in an earlier pornography review here. Noted as well that most people who have conversed about Kitty have ended up banned on W. Have to wonder what is going on, can't even add a decent entry on her due to it being blocked. She is the smallest big time porn star there is! Have seen some tongue in cheek protests online about this but am beginning to wonder if questions are based on fact.Is there a war between W & Jung? Some imagined slight is not a basis to attempt to alter the world's perception of reality... 64.134.28.22 (talk) 21:23, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Although I don't remember the specific, previous comments that you're trying to refer to, I assume that you mean this (former?) performer and not the older one under the same name that died a while back? There might be some controversy about how "young" that performer appeared to be in her films, but that alone likely won't get her a Wikipedia article here. There may have been enough repeated previous attempts at getting her a Wikipedia article so that that article space was "slated", but I'm not aware of that personally. Like it or not, Wikipedia has notability rules that need to be followed in this specific genre in order for an article to remain on Wikipedia. Either you meet that criteria (or the general GNG guidelines) or you don't get an article. Guy1890 (talk) 02:51, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Yes was the new younger looking Kitty. Also found a link to one of the protest videos about Kitty not allowed in W, shocked to see over 200,000 views. The video is on xvideos and can be found on google by searching ;"kitty_jung_-_wikipedia_entry_protest" quite a growing number for period of time available... 75.146.142.145 (talk) 16:31, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Just a heads up

"Facebook posts and/or YouTube videos aren't reliable sources on Wikipedia". Actually per WP:EL/P sometimes the source can be reliable if the venue is notable/official. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 13:08, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

I've seen Wikipedia articles try & use YouTube videos as citations before, but never Facebook postings (from "official" pages or not). Guy1890 (talk) 05:15, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Question/advice request

Hi .. I'm hoping you know the answer to this since you're a member of WikiProject Pornography. I've always uploaded a scan of DVD covers to go with the AVN Awards articles I've written, on the belief they're fair use (and I'm about to do so again with the 15th (1998) AVN Awards which I hope to finish this weekend). The DVD covers I upload are one of the awards show itself and one of the best film winner. However, suddenly Hullaballoo Wolfowitz has deleted them all citing only "obvious NFCC violation" (one example is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=16th_AVN_Awards&diff=next&oldid=693276666). i'm tempted to revert them all, but not if he's actually correct in this and I don't want to start an edit war (because he likes those!). Do you see any NFCC violation in this at all? I'm really at a loss as to what it could be, but if I'm in the wrong, I'd like to correct whatever I've been doing wrong. Thanks for any advice you can offer! - Pumik9 (talk) 00:40, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

That's an area that Mr. Wolfowitz enjoys editing in because there are apparently "rules" there that he can "enforce" pretty much at will. It's not an area that I've concerned myself with on Wikipedia, and I'm not familiar with the various guidelines that are likely in play there. You really can't "win" with Mr. Wolfowitz...even when you do...he just "retaliates in another forum eventually. Your best bet would be to ask an administrator that you trust to help you out, if they can. Guy1890 (talk) 03:47, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks.. I don't know any administrators; is there one you might suggest? I've read the non-free gontent guidelines and certainly don't see where (or if) i've gone wrong and I know Wolfy certainly won't be interested in explaining... thanks again. - Pumik9 (talk) 16:58, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
I don't know any administrators that work in this area either, and I saw that an administrator that recently posted to your own talk page wasn't very helpful. You might try & post on one of the talk pages associated with Wikipedia's non-free content guidelines. Good luck... Guy1890 (talk) 06:04, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

GA reassessment for Snow

Snow, an article that you or your project may be interested in, has been nominated for an individual good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article.

I'm proposing a more logical structure to the article, which you can look in on (and edit) at Talk:Snow/Sandbox and comment on at: Talk:Snow#Comments on rewrite.

Angela White

Hi, i have been working on a Wikipedia article on Angela White but the sources I think are appropriate are considered unreliable. Can you can give me some advice as I am not sure where I am going wrong? Lach23 (talk) 00:41, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

The AVN biographies are not considered reliable on their own for BLPs. Many types of interviews aren't generally considered reliable for anything but the most non-controversial info in a BLP. The same basically goes for many types of press release info. You can expect that awards & nominations from non-notable organizations will almost always be removed from BLPs in this genre (usually by the "usual suspects" on Wikipedia). The same goes for many of an adult performer's social media sites...it's usually best to stick to official websites only if possible in the External links section. I would also try & avoid blogs as sources in BLPs if at all possible. Guy1890 (talk) 04:45, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for getting back to me. So XBIZ and AVN interviews aren’t considered reliable I’m gathering. What’s the deal with podcasts and YouTube videos?Lach23 (talk) 06:40, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
It's not that interviews from any specific source are not considered reliable, it's just that the best thing to use interviews for is to source non-controversial content (especially content that only the subject of the interview would know for sure was true). There is a portion of the Wikipedia interview template (linked above)...I think it's either "type=" or "format="...that one could use to cite a "podcast" as the specific type of interview. YouTube videos are pretty much frowned upon as valid citations on Wikipedia, unless maybe that's the only way to "prove" a particular thing took place or not. Retain GA status of Snow?

I concluded that the original state of the Snow article no longer passed GA muster. So, I followed the instructions at Wikipedia:Good article reassessment. Item 6. and 7. say, "6. Wait for other editors to respond. Do everything you can to improve the article during this time. During the reassessment discussion, you must decide if the article has improved enough to meet the good article criteria." During that period, I substantially rewrote the article to where it bears little resemblance to the original. I feel that it is close to GA eligibility, but feel awkward to be the one to declare it so, without input from others, given my extensive editing. Please leave your thoughts at Talk:Snow#Comments on rewrite. User:HopsonRoad 12:42, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
