Hello all! This is my first attempt here, and I am sorry to be so excited to get to work, I did not realize there are protocols, etc. I might have taken for granted. At any rate, I did what I could and will hopefully be doing more contributions...Guest818 09:06, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I've cleaned it up some more. Lots of good work you're doing, though. Some notes:

1. There are several passages where "tarsier" is used. Are these facts true for all tarsiers, or only the Philippine Tarsier? If these are unique, please clarify. If these are truely about all tarsiers, then be more explicit in that and also think about putting some of that information in the tarsier article.
2. When refering to the species, please use the singular. Also, use the capitalization of the article title. "Philippine Tarsier" refers to this particular species. "Philippine tarsier" refers to any tarsier found in the Philippines.
3. I commented out a few small sections on communication. Don't use "this refers to" language. These sections need to be rewritten.
4. Section headings should have only the first word capitalized, except for proper nouns. All other words should not be capitalized.
5. "Other significant information" is not a valid section heading. Either split up the section with better headings, or merge that text into other sections.

Different works use different naming conventions. In Wikipedia, at least in the primate realm, we use full capitalization to denote the common name of a species, and sentance case to denote a larger, possibly less formal, grouping. As I said above, this means that "Philippine Tarsier" refers to this particular species, while "Philippine tarsier" refers to any tarsiers in the Philippines. - UtherSRG (talk) 20:50, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

As far as I know, there are no other tarsier species in the Philippines except Tarsius syrichta, although there might be subspecies not yet documented, the Philippines being an archipelago, hence species may vary from island to island. Philippine tarsier

We tend to frown upon collections of trivia in articles. A list of local names counts as trivia, although a particular local name might be worthy of inclusion, depending on circumstances. I removed the category because category:prosimians is included in category:primates; only one is needed. - UtherSRG (talk) 20:50, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks again for the clarification. The widely used local name in publications is "mawmag" in Cebuano, the dialect spoken in Bohol. Maybe we can put that back. In line with trivia, the second paragraph from the top, is also trivia. Publications say most commonly found in - Bohol, Samar, etc., but is open to all and any other islands in the Philippines, Sarangani included...Including the 2nd paragraph will open the article for more such kinds of trivia, as the species may be found in other islands/provinces as well, other than Sarangani. - Guest818 21:35, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

I am with you in the importance, not only interest, of the natural range of species. The 2nd paragraph is not entirely right: "For a very long time it was believed to exist only in the provinces of Samar, Leyte, and Bohol, Philippines. Tribal people like the B'laans and T'bolis have been, for a long time, reporting sightings in the province of Sarangani. Holy Name University

Holy Name University (HNU), formerly the Divine Word College of Tagbilaran, is an institution of higher learning, run by the Society of the Divine Word or SVD, in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. While it can be discussed under Society of the Divine Word or Divine Word Missionaries, education being one of its missions as a congregation, HNU needs a separate article. I would like to volunteer to work on it. How to redirect? -

When you click on Holy Name University, it redirects you to Divine Word Missionaries because it is currently a redirect page. If you look closely, just below the title on the Divine Word Missionaries page is a small link back to Holy Name University. Click on that link and it will take you to the Holy Name University page, where you can then click edit this page. You'll then be able to create the article. The article is a copyright infringement of the text at the university's website. The university's website even has "Copyright © 2006. All rights reserved" at the bottom of each page. Copyrighted text cannot be used in Wikipedia articles. See Wikipedia:Copyrights for a full explanation. All submissions must be compatible with the GFDL. If you are a high-level administrator at the university and have the legal right to release the text under the GFDL, take a look at the section Copyright owners who submitted their own work to Wikipedia: at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. If you don't have the legal right to release the text under the GFDL, I'm afraid the article will need to be rewritten in your own words. You can still follow the basic outline that you have, but everything needs to be phrased in your own words instead of using text that someone else has already copyrighted. Hello, again. One of my co-workers (not yet a Wikipedia editor) is from Manila, so I thought I would show him the article you're working on, Holy Name University. When I pulled up the page and he saw the title, he started telling me about the university, without even having read the article. It turns out that he went to Far Eastern University, but he knows a bit about Holy Name University, also. I showed him the articles on Philippines, Bohol, Manila and Far Eastern University. He really liked the Holy Name University article, and related Philippine articles, but I think the major hurdle to getting him active is confidence in his English. His English is good enough, but he seems hesitant. I decided not to push too hard, just keep showing him articles every once in a while and let him decide when the time is right. Bohol references

Hi there, welcome to Wikipedia. Glad you left a note. For a while now I've been adding references to various articles and inserting the unreferenced template that you saw, along with a reference section as a starting point for those who are unaware of these things. The main point being to increase the reliability and verifiability of Wikipedia. This will give some background: Wikipedia:Verifiability. Looking at current featured articles for example todays, J. R. R. Tolkien many of these articles have an amazing amount of refs, but one is better than none. The references section is most useful when a reference is matched to the fact(s) within the article. I've changed two external links on the article to ref types to give an example on how to do it. You'll find more information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Footnotes & here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources. The aim is that the reader can match quotations and facts to published material if they wish to check the details for accuracy. So although those sites you added may be generally useful, they would normally go in the external links section since they are not yet matched to facts in the article. What would be even better is if you could put them in the article where they are most relevant. There are also templates available that define a bit better what details should be added for web sites, journals or books etc. There are quite a few here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_templates. I haven't used those templates much myself as I had read some complaints about how they make the text harder to edit, although it does seem that they are getting more popular. clarification on Bohol Article - LGU or island?

The way I see it right now, the contents in the intro in Bohol are about the island, not the Provincial Government of Bohol. I think we need to change the title of Bohol to Provincial Government of Bohol and retain Bohol Island as well as re-direct an Bohol to Bohol Island... I don't know...Just a thought! Well, the Bohol article doesn't have to be only about the provincial government.. It should be about Bohol as a cultural, political, geographic entity (see, for example, Philippines, or California). Policy allows for speedy deletion of "Any page for which deletion is requested by the original author, provided the page's only substantial content was added by its author and was mistakenly created."
