Wikiproject Golf

edit

Do you have any templates for the course articles? I would be willing to help out if I had some direction. Sven Erixon 23:05, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm trying to figure out how to make a template, if anyone could help, give me a yell here. Thanks, Grover 07:40, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Try visiting the WikiProject Council. There is lots of material on setting up a project and its different components. --Aguerriero (talk) 19:09, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Grover, thanks for your efforts in establishing and "getting the ball rolling" in respect to Wikiproject Golf. Several months ago, I proposed on Wikiproject Golfers that we select one of our golfer bio articles and try to get it elevated to featured status. I see where you and others have proposed a similar idea on Wikiproject Golf. I am also interested in sharks and collaborated with several other shark editors in getting one of our articles elevated to featured status (Oceanic whitetip shark). I think the first step is deciding which golf related article to select. Take a look at my proposal on Wikiproject Golfers. I'll let you take the lead on developing a similar proposal on Wikiproject Golf because the subject of golf is more comprehensive than just Golfer bio's that I had addressed earlier. --Hokeman 16:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I tried to use one of your templates for an infobox when I created Liberty National Golf Club, but only half the box appeared, could you help me fix it?JakeH07 (talk) 20:04, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Infobox

edit

Hi, thanks for your comments on Moray Golf Course. I'll be beefing up this article shortly but I'm not sure that the infobox is neccessarily the best design nor if it contains all the relevant items. If some sort of concensus could be obtained then I will try and get a template for it. Thanks again --Bill Reid | Talk 08:08, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Golf

edit

Thanks very much for updating the selected article; I've let the portal sit dormant for much too long. I'll be updating the news in the next day or two and the DYK and selected items in the next several days, and thereafter will drop you another note in order that I might see whether you should be interested in assuming responsibility for updating any or all of the sundry portal components. Whilst one should, of course, always be bold and update pages across any namespace where necessary, and whilst one surely does not own any particular page, it often happens that portals are best served where one user serves as a principal editor, largely because it is generally best that all sections (save that for the news) be updated contemporaneously and inasmuch as such sections are ideally stylistically similar (I, for example, rewrite every selected article, biography, and image, such that they are [prolixly] distinct). Although I've begun work on the news section, the DYK, and the selected bio, I haven't anything prepared for the update to be undertaken in mid- to late January (there seems, IMHO, to be a consensus toward the proposition that each selected item should be updated monthly, but portals sometimes fall into disrepair and are updated much less frequently; see, e.g., my dereliction relative to this one!), and so your assuming some or all tasks would be quite great. In any event, I'll drop you a more substantive note sometime soon... :) Joe 18:25, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

On that note, when I do update the news directly, I will likely rework the text of the selected image and article, about which I hope you won't mind. I'll surely preserve your choices, but I think it always appropriate that a selected image, article, or biography be rewritten in order that a reader happening upon it should be presented with a wider array of quality links he/she might then follow to articles he/she might elect to edit (see, for example, the difference between the portal version of the Stableford article and its instant version). In any case, I'll finish work on the various sections in a day or two and will then, as promised, drop by once more in order that we might collaborate straightaway. Cheers in the meanwhile, Joe 06:55, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for mentioning that the infobox on Jack Nicklaus's page looks pretty good on Wikiproject Golf. I had created that version for other players (ie Arnold Palmer, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Gary Player) because I felt it was more organized and better especially for retired/deceased golfers. Grover - I think the Nicklaus article probably is reaching high B or higher than B status, but WP:Bio policy is no listing higher than B until an article earns GA. So my suggestion - nominate it! Mocko13 01:26, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kiama Golf Club

edit

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Kiama Golf Club, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --Eastmain 19:16, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Project tagging

edit

No, I'll check the subcategories by myself ;-) However, I need a link to where the wikiproject has decided to tag the pages. Not that I don't trust you, but since I had problems in the past (wikipedian that I trusted asking me to tag 2,5K articles and when I start SnowBot it got blocked because the wikiproject has decided not to tag 'em) ;-).

I saw that you're also considering sending a newsletter, if you need, SnowBot can handle it (but I would have to ask for a new task to be added).

Have a nice day,

Snowolf (talk) CON COI - 10:40, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm very sorry of having forgotten of the tagging :-(. All right, I'll deal with it ASAP. Actually the code that the bot should be add is {{Wikiproject Golf |class= |importance= }} ? Snowolf (talk) CON COI - 23:17, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club

edit

Thanks for the comments. I removed the extra hole info from the score card, it seemed extra to me too but the club had it on their scorcard online. If you have a chance after your finals (I have one more myself and shouldn't be editing) if you could take care of the assesment on the club too, that would be appreciated. And if WikiGolf gets a To Create section started you might want to add Bob Cupp (Robert A. Cupp) to it as I think there will be ten or so articles that would link to it. Thanks again, and good luck with cramming. Aboutmovies 19:09, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Byron Nelson

edit

I saw you nominated Byron Nelson's article for GA status. However, simply by looking at the length of the page and the level of description, I thought it was barely B status. I think it will take much more time for it to be considered a GA candidate. Supertigerman 23:06, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Byron Nelson GA Review

edit

I have reviewed the Byron Nelson article have have put the GA Review on hold. For more info visit the article's talk page.

  • The article looks about ready to go GA, but I have one concern still. I'm not this picky, but I know others are. The sentence that now reads, "There has been debate to how impressive these results are, as it was believed to be a weakened tour due to the war." Who believed this? I assume they believed this because players were fighting in the war, but what made you come to this conclusion over 60 years after the occurance? Even if you were around then you can't site your own views because it would then be original research. I hate to be so picky, but if I don't bring it up someone else can later and have it delisted. BTW, you've done a great job on the article! - Theophilus75 14:34, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Golfclub.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Golfclub.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Aroundtheworldrhcp2.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Aroundtheworldrhcp2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Golf article ratings

Hey, I see you have accessed some articles. I am not 100% sure how to access articles well. I was wondering if you could access Charles Howell III, Martin Kaymer and Rory McIlroy. Thanks, michfan2123 03:43, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks man. Knocking out assessments gets annoying, hehe. I have been going through the unassessed and marking articles as stubs if they are obviously stubs. I think I know the difference between stub and start but after that it gets confusing. I will pick it up eventually. Seeing Jack Nicklaus featured would really be something, I hope we do it. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Taste the pain.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Taste the pain.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:32, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Robert Rock

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Robert Rock, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Robert Rock. LPGA International Golf Course

edit

I created a new article for LPGA International and would appreciate it if you could take a look and rate the importance before the AfD Squad notices it... LOL. I rated it Start Class for now. Gamweb (talk) 08:06, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry about AfD for this article, it's definately notable enough :) Grovermj 10:38, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can you tell me if Lloyd Clifton is considered to be "notable" enough as a golf course architect for his own Wikipedia page? He has designed a considerable number of golf courses around Florida.
