Notability of Brinkman Band

edit

A tag has been placed on Brinkman Band, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Andante1980 10:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. --Andante1980 10:58, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
  Please do not remove speedy deletion notices. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion. Thank you. --Andante1980 11:09, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

As the message says above, you should leave a message on the talk page explaining your position. However, I have deleted the article anyway, as it is so not neutral as to be blatant advertising. If you choose to try again, please take a look at the other band articles on Wikipedia for a model, and be sure to use a neutral tone. Mangojuicetalk 11:19, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:L c3162ace97eb8f97a3ec16bcb62371bc.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

The page on Brinkman band is being deletion because it does not satisfy the notability guideline, as pointed out in earlier warnings about deletion. Additionally, it very much looks like it was written as a promotional article, which gains it another point for deletion. Ergo, deletion soon follows. You're also not helping thing by recreating the entire article on it's own talk page. --Andante1980 12:39, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

How to do a non-spam article

edit

Standards about acceptable articles have tightened up on wikipedia over the past year or so. As wikipedia becomes more popular, it has become more of a target of marketers and fans. There are several relevant policy and guideline pages you might want to look at: our anti-spam guideline, our neutral point of view policy, our conflict of interest policy, our general notability guideline, and our band and musician notability guideline.

If you are involved with the band, quite probably you shouldn't be writing about it at all, as per WP:COI. But if you do want to write about it, be very sure that:

  1. the article sounds neutral and encyclopedic, not promotional;
  2. the article clearly documents that the band is significant and notable, and that is fulfills the WP:MUSIC criteria. This should be established by citing multiple reliable sources that are independent, that is, not press releases, official sites of the band itself, myspace pages, or fan blogs.

If you want to work on the article, you can create it on a sub-page of your user page, such as User:Gregoryjamesplews/draft, and when it is done, you can move it to the proper title. You might want to ask an admin or experienced editor to look at the article before you move it.

I hope this advice is helpful. DES (talk) 15:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Let me follow up on what DES said. In this particular instance, I did a quick search for any sources on Brinkman Band that might be usable to start an article. However, there really weren't any at all that we can use here, so I would encourage you to not bother. What we would be looking for in terms of sources are things like writeups in magazines (even independent journalistic newssites, just not blogs or personal web pages). Seems like Brinkmanband isn't there yet, sorry. Mangojuicetalk 18:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
