I was going to photograph that monument myself, but was beaten to it! The authour had his facts wrong however, so I was able to assist him. Summerdrought (talk) 04:50, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Geographical location of HQ 47th Battallion. Central Queensland or South East Queensland?

edit

Summerdrought - I thought you might be interested in this one. I came across an entry on the 47th Batallion which mentioned the area from which its members were drawn, after it was reincarnated in 1927. The article had central Queensland, which I changed to south east Qld, and that was promptly reverted by Anotherclown to central. Unfortunately I clicked on Save Page before I entered my rationale for the change so I can't blame anybody for changing it back.

Still, I would never have thought of Maryborough or the Wide Bay Regiment as being located in Central Queensland, would you?

I note that the 47th was re-instated in 1921. Is it possible that between then and 1927 it did include a larger area of influence? I don't know the history of the Battalion, but other edits I have seen by Anotherclown seem to be fairly well researched. On the other hand, we both know that Maryborough is the centre of the world in any case. Your call!

I made a mistake saying 47BN was re-instated in '27. It was '21. It took the name Wide Bay Regiment in '27. Anyway, both Anotherclown and AustralianRupert say they are not sure of the geography. Anyway, I've altered the article to reflect my geographical knowledge! It's a bit difficult for me to imagine that Gympie is in Central Queensland! I put a New Section,47th Battalion, on Anotherclowns talk page with a lengthy explanation of my reasoning. Have a look,if you will? Yesterday, I was surprised to run into an 'edit conflict' while I was editing that section. Someone else must have been editing Anotherclowns TalkPage while I was editing at the same time. Quite a few lines of mine got hurtled into cyber space, never to be seen again. I would hate to have written a page or two in a lengthy article only to see the work go west. Or Central. Or, for that matter, south east. I can see that if I keep this up I will have to learn an entirely new set of manners!

As it happens, I had seen your posts with Anotherclown and AustralianRupert before this talk page post. So I cheekily "moved" the Battalion's location on your behalf! You must have taken your eye off the target.Summerdrought (talk) 07:45, 3 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I did miss that. But, I am now wondering whether 'south-east' is correct Wiki style or is it 'south east'? I have also realized that I have made another error; but only on my talk page, or it could be yours - I described Savige as commander of II Corps whereas he was commander of 29BDE. I think Vernon Sturdee was overall commander but things keep getting changed around between I Corps and II Corps - at one stage they simply shifted the name and not the troops - and there is also confusion, in my mind, about the use of First and Second Army. Oh well, I guess that was all SNAFU anyway. I'm having quite a bit of trouble formatting this reply. See if this one works.

AR - thank you very much for the kind invitation. At present I feel ill-equipped to jump on board a large project so I must gracefully decline at this stage, although I am sure I will see you about when I go on further Wiki 'recces'. My interests are pretty much confined to those areas connected to my fathers service with 7 FD AMB, which was attached to 29BDE (AIF) on Bougainville. Dad joined 47BN in Maryborough in 1937 aged 19, but left it on moving to Brisbane for further study. He joined the AMF again at Bardon in October '41 and sometime after that he migrated to the AIF. He was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant and the honour of MID. Dad died in 2006 and much of my chasing things up on Wiki, is in remembrance of him. Cheers, and thanks again for the invitation,

Medical, birding, plants....

edit

G'day, great to see another doctor here - I did work in Alice briefly as an RMO in 1994 - I am grateful for folks in remote areas - we'd be insanely grateful for any photos of flora or fauna from out your way. I am not bad on birds and know a bit about plants. there are bird and plant wikiprojects which are reasonably active. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:19, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
