Deletion discussion about Wilbur Ternyik

Hello, Grand'mere Eugene,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Wilbur Ternyik should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wilbur Ternyik .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Ternyik

Hi, thanks again for starting a bio of Wilbur Ternyik. While there's surely a lot that could be done to improve it, I think it's substantial enough to move to main space. Any objection if I do that? -Pete Forsyth (talk) 16:53, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

No, be my guest. I'll use the remaining 4 potential sources to develop it. Thanks for your help. Cheers! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 19:13, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
@Peteforsyth: I don't know whether you saw the notice below? Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 23:06, 7 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:08, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Deleted twitter comment

Could you please remove this? The meaning of the tweet was unclear, which is why I deleted it. Rseacord (talk) 15:15, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions to the article and ongoing deletion discussion. The source you found was super helpful, and I'm sure there are more facts to be added from that reference. This guy is quite interesting and mysterious! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:46, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

Newspaper request

Hi, I take it you have a newspapers.com account? Would you mind checking to see if they have a certain page? (Sunday Oregonian, November 16, 1902, page 7.) It would be great just to know if it's there, or a clipping would be even better. The part I'm interested in is the continuation of the obituary of Frances Fuller Victor. It starts on p. 4, which the U. of O. has archived; but for some reason p. 7 is missing from theirs. Any help appreciated. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 01:00, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Pete, I checked Newspapers.com but they don't have the Oregonian, only the earlier Morning Oregonian. I sent an e-mail to Franny Gaede, the head of "Digital Scholarship Services" at the UO Library, requesting that page 7 be scanned. She's usually quick to respond, but I don't know her vacation schedule and, well, it is summer. Fingers crossed. - Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 01:55, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
That's fantastic, thanks! I'm also compiling a list of things to track down at the Multnomah County Library, so if you don't find it that way I might have other options. I appreciate the effort, let me know what comes of it. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 06:17, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
Pete Forsyth - Just had e-mail from Franny (who has returned from a vacation at Glacier National Park) that she has referred our request to their Oregon Digital Newspaper Project, so an answer may be forthcoming soon... Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 22:54, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for the update. Looking forward to seeing if she can come up with it! -Pete Forsyth (talk) 23:41, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
Sorry to report the vaunted Digital Newspaper Project failed to give much help. Apparently the digitized newspapers are created from microfilm, and the response I got said the microfilm of the page was probably illegible or missing. The advice was to check the microfilm. I e-mailed back asking whether the UO has the microfilm, but no response yet. It seems not to be the responsibility of the Digital Newspaper Project to tack down the microfilm (or even better, the print newspaper!) to find the rest of the obit. I recall the days when libraries kept bound paper volumes of journals and newspapers, but I'm apparently older than dirt, now. I'm wondering whether the Oregonian might have such an archive? I'll let you know if there is any further word from UO. Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 04:25, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
