Hi Graeme, I am following a bit the discussion around a possible 'Hans Höger' article. I don't know Ilaria - she's probably from the Bocconi University, I am from the Bozen University, but I imagine that both of us know very well Mr. Höger. Outstanding qualities and characteristcs of Mr. Höger are in my opinion: - he is one of the very few design theorists who collaborates actively with such important institutions like International Design Conference of Aspen (IDCA) and Triennale di Milano - he is one of the few design theorists in Germany who is doing contributions to peer group magazines in Italy (domus, Abitare), Germany (form, Design Report) and Japan (Shift, Design News) - he is one of the few German design theorists (perhaps the only one) who is publishing books with publishing houses in Switzerland (Lars Müller, Birkhäuser), Italy (Abitare Segesta), Germany (Cantz) and France (Editions Pyramyd) - he is the only German design theorist included in the Design Research Map operation organized by the Universities of Milan and Genoa - he is one the very few design theorists who does not only work at an accademic level and network, but even with companies (as consultant): he is actively trying to link theory and practice - he created the idea/theory of "cultural engineering" - last but not least, an article about his activities and relationships has been accepted in Wikipedia Germany and Italy All those aspects, probably, are not sufficiently described in Ilaria's article; nevertheless, they can be read/perceived thanks to the informations Ilaria tried to resume. My question: the definition/criterion of "outstanding" could be considered fulfilled by the above listed characteristics of Mr. Höger's work? Hi Andrea, it is best to post the new talk at the bottom of my page. In this case I moved my header back to the top. If you like you can repost your article proposal along with the justifications you have given to me at WP:AFC. Include some secondary sources for cultural engineering, so that we can see that it is important. Having books published in another country does not make someone notable, but perhaps the large number of books and countries adds notability, but it will depend on how important the publication is. Hi Graeme, many thanks for your comments on my proposal concerning Hans Höger. The main motivation for my proposal is that Mr. Höger is an active and internationally known member of the scientific design community. He is particularly commited to Design Research topics and international cooperations. In 2009 his book "Cultural Engineering" will be published. Concerning several important designers liks Sapper, Abraham, Sottsass, De Lucchi, he is one of the few international experts who published comprehensive works on those people. The Italian Design Research Map website is an independent website in which Höger's research projects and positions have been included (even with a video interview). I know that he is doing contributions in other international design networks as well - do you think, I should look for those informations and then try again to edit an article? Hi Graeme, thanks you input. I have found a wiki page in Japanese exists [ http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B0%B4%E5%8E%9F%E5%B8%8C%E5%AD%90 ]. I will work on translateing this to english. Big in Japan or google requires more Kanji I suppose. Anyway, I imagine localizing a wiki-page will meet less scrutiny than trying to start from scratch or convince others a fashion model may have relavancy in an encyclopaedic world.

Also found this definition; Encyclopedia, noun: A reference work (often in several volumes) containing articles on various topics (often arranged in alphabetical order) dealing with the entire range of human knowledge or with some particular speciality.

So, I think regardless of how many hits a english(水原希子) google search reveals; articles on various topics dealing with the entire range of human knowledge or with some particular speciality, users can be served by a localized english version.

{{helpme}} I may need some assistance, are you willing to tutor me on wiki formating if I mess up?

I am a little confused(but thats alright) about the reason for declineing the Article: Kiko Mizuhara (fashion model) for creation.

Anyway, we notice herein, in the second paragraph a few names of famous Vivi models with links(blue) to their respective and accepted(for creation)Wiki-Bio pages also a list of curent and past models some of these also with links(blue) to their respective Wiki-Bio pages also. So, we note that such, is the precidence already set, in this and these(bio-type) acceptable Wiki pages obviously worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. ( Actually, i followed carefully the layout{{Infobox Model of one of these other models in preparing the Kiko Mizuhara (fashion model) article?)

Thus the decline is puzzling on the basis you stated and implied;(lack of?) importance or significance of the subject & the why the person or group is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia?

It seems to me the "importance or significance of the subject & the why the person or group is worthy of inclusion" is no longer a subjective matter as the accepted precidence followed thus far would make it a correct an objective criteria that has already passed the test for worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia.

So, what gives? Do you require further; cite(ing) reliable, published third-party sources, so that the information in the article is verifiable? I think ample was given(though some is in Japanese language)?

So could you please explain what needs to happen in order to successfully, complete this submission for creation without deletion?

Please understand that I am not trying to take issue with your points at a personal level - what concerns me is with what appears to be the general inactivity of OZ project and the default to the national noticeboard - the collective amnesia of the oz project on the issues that come up from more recent fly-by 'lets change this' type eds (who are new or recent) - leaves the oz project at peril of 'dumb down creep' - when it comes to nutting out the issues that at times need to be hammered out - so no big deal - but - hey there are no doubt plenty more issues to get revived by the 'fly bys' - eds who have never looked at archives or whatever - cheers SatuSuro 06:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

As manager of a lumber mill or the founder of one congregation does not make Hiram Burnett notable in my opinion, and neither does having notable relatives. However your can try your luck on WP:AFC. The article is worded as though it was a new discovery announced on wikipedia. This would count as original research. Your reference did not match any journal that I know of, however now that you ask for a review, the submission was a copyright violation of the abstract of http://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/0311479.

In addition to this problem, the term seems to be hardly used, so that the concept may be non notable.

Hey there, as of recent, I've been having severe troubles with the AFC helper script, and I guess that you use it quite a bit, as you help out quite a lot on AFC. undeleting Hajvery University

you deleted Hajvery University because it looked like a test page. This was created as part of the WP:AFC process. We are trying out a new process where pages are moved rather than copied. This means if it was deleted, it is gone totally, it should really have been declined instead, with some feedback to the contributor about what is wrong. Can you please restore Hajvery University back to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Submissions/Hajvery University? Then us AFC reviews will add on the decline marker. It was probably not necessary to protect against recreation as the topic of the article is notable, even if the content was not up to scratch! Sorry if we have crossed lines a bit here - No big deal really - I had noticed the royal george stub - and i try hard to make sure tasmania stubs have wp australia and tasmania at the back (surely we are member of the oz project that is all i am asking really) (otherwise technically orphans and not there in the stats) - then i noticed you had done edgar fault - we now have a tas geology category - so if you have any other tas geology arts apart from that it would be useful to have the arts in that category as well - so both sides of the page - project tags and cats - cheers SatuSuro 00:55, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Lots to do yet - I have heaps of western tas arts to link and there are quite a few issues to go into about this - I think I had started a central tas art and possibly category -= we might even have to go offline on some stuff - but my presence is very irregular - i have heaps of west tas photos and material as I used to work for mt lyell and ran the locl paper for a v short time in queenstown (before the no dams campaign) and etc etc - and we do have an wikipedia editor whm i am in contact with in queenstown if we want picies on demand within a reasonable time - i will be there in december for v short time SatuSuro 01:14, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Frisian history

There still is no article especially on Frisian history. This I would like to change. I requested the people from the Frisia project and others on wikipedia to help me write such an article. My knowledge of Frisian history might not be as good as that of yours, nor do I have the sources you may have. I am afraid my English grammar and overall knowledge is nowhere good enough for making an entire article. I therefore would like to propose copeyediting. Besides, the entire article is giving one persons point of view. The naming of section maes no sense at all and the whole Count of Nychlenborch of whom is told he was their main enemy, is no way as important as given here. And, last but not least, looking at the sources shows that the entire thing is made up for none of those give even nearly as much information as is given. wikiProject release 0.7

There seems to be some project going on selecting wikipedia articles for DVD release. Some articles, as can be seen on the Frisian wiki project are selected, envolving Frisian-related subjects. Those should get some extra attention. Also, I noticed an article of enormous importance, namely the one on Grutte Pier, has not been selected by the project. It should be nominated for selection and we might, as a project, ask for a personal selection (within bounderies of 7 articles as we are given by SelectionBot). Hi Graeme

1. What's your rationale for these two new categories? I noticed that User:Legoktm has taken held requests out of the pending category, which I'm not sure I agree with. Having one category for all pending requests seemed simplest to me ...
2. About the new section thing on the talkpage preload, the only reason it is there is that if the page already exists (e.g. if there is a banner already there for some reason), then preload template will not work unless a new section is added. Anyway in this case the page should be blank anyway, so not much difference!
3. Are there any other search engines which should be linked from the "reviewers' tools"?
4. Do you think the reviewers' tools should also appear on the "on hold" template?

Great day for the Fryslan project

The people at wikiProject release 0.7 put Pier Gerlofs Donia in. It is the first Frisia related article to be put in their page. It is a great day for the Frisia project! A great day! Now we must make sure the article stays as good as it is now. All edits made from now on will be examined closely. It is currently a Good Article nominee. I am pretty sure it will pass and then it will be our first and only GA-class article related within our scope. Do you perhaps know a good, neutral editor who can review it? There is a procedure in Wikipedia:Copyright_problems#Copyright owners who submitted their own work to Wikipedia to confirm that GFDL permission is granted on that material. An easier alternative for you could be to rewrite the material in new words. There are special rules on WP:COI and WP:NOTABILITY that have to be followed. Hi, Florence Henderson as the spokeswoman is interesting, but entities do not gain notability by association. The company will have to stand on its own. What we need to prove notability is independent party references, for example a book, independent web page, newspaper or journal article on the company. You have provided primary sources, the web pages of the company, the wgnradio link does not mention the company, so I cannot comment on this, and the businesswire page is a press release from the company, a different source but not independent. Pier Gerlofs Donia

Greame Bartlett, the article on Pier Gerlofs Donia is currently a candidate for GA, it has been for over two weeks and now it is partially reviewed. It has been put on hold and will need improvements in referencing to be put in properly this week. I have just done quite some referencing in the article (something I am not awfully good at, but still) and I wondered if you might be able to check whether this will do. Also: do the images used have fair-use rationales or something like that? The reviewer also mentioned that. The prose, however, is good and there is no bias in their eyes so that is positive. Furthermore: most sources are not in English so there will be needed some sort of template at each of them, something like "Source in Dutch" or "Source in Frisian". Can you show me how to do that? Oh, by the way: I took a look at Magnus Forteman and although he may be legendary, I thought he truly deserved some mention around here for practically saving the Roman Catholic Church. grutte pier GA

Dana boomer, the user who reviewed the article on grutte pier has failed the article and removed it from the nominations page. You could renominate it, then I could reference the last few section, you could put the temple on each ref saying it is Dutch or Frisian and then it would easily pass for most work already has been done. I know. An article on Dorus Rijkers, for example; it appeared on the front page as Did You Know article, then got nominated for GA and it almost made it. A year later it was re-nominated , hugely improved and all and they failed it ! I think a year ago, the article on Grutte Pier would have immediately be passed! At the moment I see many articles of good quality, well referenced, illustrated and written, and most of them are just "Start" or "B-class". I think it hugely depends on who reviews it. Their might be some POV in the selecting: maybe the editor Dana boomer failed the article on GP because he was suspicious over the fact most references are in a language he does not understand. I think this is no good way to treat such an article. In any case, I hope to be putting in most ref's either today or tomorrow. About Frisian refs and Dutch ref's: Frisian language has "yn" instead of "in", "f" rather then "v" (faak for vaak : often), and uses K's rather then C's. It has much â's: Fryslân, Nederlân, and "EU" becomes "JE", as in Europe becoming Jeropa. You just watch the frisian wikipedia: http://fy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haadside, you'll see what I'm talking about. It is very much distinctive from Dutch, I think you will not find it hard to recognize. In any case, I will help you do this. We might have to take some sections out, although I hope to find references for everything. The main problem is: over 100 users and 35 IP's have been working on the article so it cannot be traced who put in which or removed what. I suspect that nothing has to be removed. However there has been a bit of spamming of the image of the statue around the place. So far I have found no Frisian pages in the refs, only Dutch. I still cannot tell where the original Fris quote in the Fiveval section came from. Now what is left is the English translation I typed (but did not understand the original until it was explained to me by my Mum), without the original. Well, the Fiveval legend is explained on the Dutch wikepedia and the Frisian wikipedia. The legend comes from DOc Meertens Institute and a website in Dutch about legends and old stories. About the spamming of the image: in most pages it will be genuine but sometimes it just makes no sense: for example, I noticed the Grutte Pier was on a page of Pirates in the Caribean. Pluto's disc color

I calculated that light is roughly about 2500 times dimmer than earth, however that compares to lighting that you would have inside a house with artificial dim lighting, due to light globes being very inefficient. This is enough light to see colour OK. The apricot colour is my description of the colour on the Pluto picture on the Pluto page. This was not from planetary missions but from earth based telescopes. The given ref for planet colour is [1] which says blue for Uranus and Neptune, and pale yellow for Saturn. Jupiter is orange and white striped. For pluto Matija Cuk calls the colour light brown. Blue is the likely colour, after all you are seeing sky on these planets, and that is blue on earth due to Mie scattering. With a super thick atmosphere it would appear blue unless there was a coloured gas or some kinds of clouds. Up close where the planet dominates the view it would give a bit of a different impression. Reconstructed colours resemble the true colours. Do you think that the TV images are true colour? These are actually artificially reconstructed with glowing or filtered pixels designed to give the same impression as the original scene. Some things such as sun light are not reproduced as bright, and some colours such as red or violet are not reproduced as you would see them with your eyes. That sounds about right! On Earth the sky is blue above the clouds, and looks white if you see clouds. When you look down from a plane the earth is very blue looking, even the ground covered in grass or trees. On pluto the atmosphere is too thin to make a difference. I am still struggling to get the javascript to do the fully correct thing. My problems are probably caching the old version. Template:AFC submission/old seems to be an inappropriate name, but the other two names are saying where it is to be used. I am thinking that the template is more general purpose than that, converting a short decline text into a long text. So I think something that suggests that would be better. Presumably the same text is used on the Template:AFC submission, so can this all come from the same one spot?

Yes all the comments are stored at Template:AFC submission/comments which I think is a good idea. I would suggest moving Template:AFC submission/old to the more appropriately named Template:AFC redirect. The problem is that we already have Template:Afc redirect so that would just cause confusion. I changed my mind about using the same comments about the article submissions, because most seemed to require some sort of rewording in order to make sense. I would appreciate some opinions on the template and whether you think you can the script to work with it. Question: I noticed you had an NPOV option in the script, but couldn't really think of how this could apply to redirects. Two things are needed, first that the article claims something notable about the topic, and second that you supply some references from independent sources. Press releases from the performers or their publishers are not independent. But newspapers, magazines are good sources. In this example official websites are not independent, and the last page does not mention them, perhaps you need a more specific URL. The claim that they are the best in the world need a reference to support it, and if it is a good one would justify having an article. Normally there would be an article on each individual. Dear Graeme, Thank you for taking the time to review my article about VOXOFON. I carefully read all of your reasons for declining it, including lack of importance or significance. I was hoping that you could please reconsider if I add some additional facts to the copy, such as:

Hi Lisa, you are certainly welcome to add more facts to the article. In the case of these it looks as if the firsts are very qualified, and therefore are not outstanding. To show the notability you will need to find publications that wrote about the product, but not press releases or advertisements or items from those selling the service - these would be independent reliable sources. The user name you selected suggests that you are connected with the topic. You should read WP:COI. Also, I read WP:COI. I am not with the company but am representing the company. I am a former broadcast journalist and have been very careful to write in an objective manner. The publications I use as references are very reliable and well-known. They include high tech publications and the Houston Business Journal. They have received a lot of press (in well-known publications) in the US and abroad, and I have included those. Would love if you could help me get this up on Wikipedia as some of their competitors have their entries posted with fewer details and references than I have provided. How qualification of claims makes them less notable. The first claim below would make it notable, even the second may be notable as the first application of its type, but then adding transparent means that it was probably not the first to optimise call placement, and then if it was only the first that worked on two differnt oplatforms, that means almost nothing, as it is probably the only thing of its type like that, and any other piece of software for blackberry could make similar claims.

It was marked as an advertisement so I took your suggestions above and the original article to someone who writes for academics who has tried VOXOFON but is not directly connected. The article is there. I did a little bit of tidying. However one ref says "Houston Business Journal, December 26, 2009" which is not likely to be valid. Also the article is called Voxofon rather than VOXOFON, which is the Wikipedia convention for names. There still should be more internal links in the article. Regarding Invest The Happionaire Way

First let me compliment and thank you for making Wikipedia what it is and also going through my article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Submissions/Invest_The_Happionaire%E2%84%A2_Way It is because people like you put in time and love, that Wikipedia grows and stays the way it is. The reason the article is important and i feel should be in Wikipedia is because a lot of people might want to know more about the book - Invest The Happionaire Way because it does make a significance change in the world of investing and finance - at least here in India and is a bestseller. Wikipedia does have an article on the author of the book, however not on the particular book. I'm not too much of a Wikipedia expert and will still leave the final decision upto you.

I would be looking forward to hearing from you and please feel free to give me more advice. I would love to learn more and make sure that the articles are worthy of Wikipedia.

Hi, my first suggestion is to not have that TM in the title. It is the policy of Wikipedia not to add this mark. If Happionaire insists on having it then that would exclude it. However the nature of the trade mark registration can be explained in the article.

Secondly when I checked to see how much had been written about it on the web, the answer was very little. For a fairly current book, ir it was popular or notable far more people would be talking about this. This could be the case if the book is old, or only just released, or some aspect is a spelling mistake, or written in another language. 20:18, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for that suggestions. Will remove the "TM", I did not know Wikipedia had such a policy. I do not know the nature of the registration, so wouldn't be able to explain it in the article. Probably somebody who does could add to it and we could all get to learn more too.

The book isn't too old nor has it been just released - and I guess most of the discussions should be in English - even though a Hindi translation of the book is also available. As far as I know, it is fairly popular and notable amongst people in the investing community. I will of course leave the final decision up to you, as you have much more experience and understanding of Wikipedia than me, and hope I am able to help the Wikipedia community grow and contribute more.

Christopherson Travel

I'm fairly new to any serious wiki editing and would like to find the appropriate process for getting content included. Sometimes it seems a little vague how to get others involved in editing rather than simply declining an article.

I first tried creating an AFC for this subject, tried making edits, resubmitting, and eventually moved to content to a user subpage. I'd love any advice, input, help, whatever to get the article ready for publication. Should the article first become a stub? Is AFC the right way to go?

Copyright question

If the photo/picture was published before 1955 in Australia you can use it as it is free of original copyright. The national library was claiming a copyright in the digitization. This has not been tested or proved valid in an Australian court, and was shown to be invalid in USA. However there is a copyright clearance process where you can ask permission. However if you alter the pcitre somehow eg resize, smudge, change contrast etc, the digital form will be different and then you will have permission to release it under GDFL. Or else you can rephotograph or rescan the pciture yourself. Just getting permission to show on wikipedia is not enough, permission has to be much freeer, allowing anyone to use it. 1956 photos will only expire in 2026 as the law changed in 2005.
