Precolonial Congo edit

lol, all I really did was remove two extra spaces in the article, I didn't even really read it. Sorry. What I did do was cleanup the article Zaire, which is sort of connected to the Precolonial Congo article by the History of DR Congo Series. But, now that I have looked at the article a bit more in depth, I have to hand it to you for expanding it a lot. Thanks. --Hottentot

Magma edit

Hi - the magma article was in need of expansion, and your work was the spark for me to do a bit. There is almost always more to do ... I'm now thinking of adding a bit on magmatic differentiation including Bowen's reaction series and ..., someday. Also migmatites and that fuzzy boundary between extreme metamorphism and melting. How much more work do you have for that geology degree? My degree was in economic geology - I was a copper geology specialist way back when. -Vsmith 04:49, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

A query on the Vedanta page edit

Hi! I have just raised a query on the Vedanta page...could you respond please ? -[[User: Syiem|Syiem]] 04:49, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Thank You edit

Thanks for your response. Someone has posted a reply on the Vedanta page. It looks like the two articles should be separate. Though I believe this distinction between the two terms should be clearly brought out in the articles. I will try to do some research on this and try to fill in the gap.

Thanks a lot Syiem 04:26, 5 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Iran edit

Thanks for your message. An anon editor basically just ruined the formatting of the infobox for whatever strange reason, after another one contributed some highly POV edits. So the article should be fine now. Unfortunately there aren't very many editors keeping an eye on that article (and other Iran-related articles) so such problems tend to go unnoticed for some time, but fortunately not for too long. SouthernComfort 08:34, 7 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Gozar. Wikipedia talk pages aren't open-ended discussion forums, and people generally won't comment on something unless there are specific issues with an article. You will probably want to see Iran's nuclear program, though I'm not aware of any serious issues with that article at present. SouthernComfort 09:33, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Iran edit

The correct pronunciation should be ee-rān. Though "eye-ran" is quite prevalent in the United States (even though wrong). And the Iranian language should be "Persian" (if you speak English), not "Farsi", as many people and even Iranians say. Farsi is an arabized version of the word, and is technically incorrect, although widely prevalent. Also a sidenote: there is no relationship whatsoever between the words "Iran" and "Iraq". That they both start with an I is totally coincidental.--Zereshk 03:24, 16 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Heya, Gozar! Was dropping something on sj's talk page & saw you're interested in getting involved in the Boston Wikipedia Group. Our next gathering is Monday, January 9, at 7 pm at Mary Chung Restaurant in Central Square, Cambridge. Details We use Meetup, the wiki, and a Yahoo! kenya referendum/kibaki news item edit

Petroleum in Nigeria edit

I will always remember travelling through northern Nigeria in an overland truck, stopping under a big tree, and being surrounded by +/- 100 natives, who I do not think ever got the remotest help from central government. They were just curious, but I think living the same way that had for 100 years. Education? I don't think so. We ignored them. What to do? They didn't speak english, and if we had given them anything, it would probably have provoked a riot. There were 18 of us. They stood in the dark, as we had dinner and went to sleep. I visited Kano and Lagos afterwards - a different world. Wizzy 20:28, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Crash space during Wikimania edit

Hello,

You have put an information on Wikimania webpage, that you are offering crash space.

I'd like to attend Wikimania, and I am wondering if you can accomodate me. I have no big demands. Just a place on your floor is absolutely OK.

Polimerek 22:02, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Some info about me:

I am the treasurer of the Wikimedia Poland Society and its board member for the first year, elected on August 2005.

I am a chemist from Centre of Molecular Studies of Polish Academy of Sciences, involved in editing Polish Wikipedia, sometimes English and recently uploading chemical pictures to Commons.

My story with Wikimedia projects begun one month after launching polish edition of Wikipedia (at 2001), as a 7th registered user. Several weeks later I have also joined English Wikipedia, but I have registered there one year later, and have never been very active there.

In Polish Wikipedia I was mainly involved in editing chemical articles, translating basic meta articles from English Wikipedia, and also many articles for various other areas of knowledge. I don’t know exactly how many articles I have written from 2001 but my estimation it is in between of 1000 serious content additions and much more minor editions. Currently, I am responsible for maintaining and category chemistry on Polish Wikipedia.

I am also admin of Polish Wikipedia almost from its beginning. I am administering articles for deletion, featured articles and Questions of newbies. I am also a member of informal "cleaning department" on Polish Wikipedia.

Nigeria revert edit

Hi Gozar, Can you look back over the edit you reverted on Nigeria. It looks like it was a rearrangement with at least one new bit of information. You may want to lay out your reasoning on the talk there. Thanks, BanyanTree 22:41, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

After looking it over again it appears that the only new piece of information was:

"Murtala was assassinated by in Feb 1976 by a group led by Buka Suka Dimka but a counter coup brought Olusegun Obansanjo to power days after the assassination."

this elaborates on the initial version, as the restoration of power to the Murtala/Obasanjo clad was implicit in that version (the word "assassination" links to Buka Suka Dimka). That said, I admittedly and regretably missed this new information, however, in such a historical broad overview I think it may be best to leave the original version for the sake of economy. Let me know what you think, I apologize for wasting your time and my inattentiveness (you seem to be spending an inordinate amount of time on admin-related items!). thanks for picking up on that bit. --gozar 05:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, my original thought was that he had actually removed the paragraphs, but scanned it all and realized that it was just reshuffling. I wanted to make sure that you didn't think it was clear vandalism as your edit summary was ambiguous. I do seem to be spending a ridiculous amount of time doing adminish things these days. I am the annoying admin on about a dozen pages with long-standing issues, which basically means that I spend a lot of time asking people to discuss their edits and eventually making a call on whose not following policy the most. I'll get horribly bored or terribly stressed at some point, and unwatch a load of pages. Cheers, BanyanTree 05:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yar'Adua reverts edit

Howdy, Gozar- always glad to find another Nigeriaphile in here!

I re-reverted your revert [3] of Sheha Musa Yar'adua to remove the editorial comments about JW Farris' book. An anonymous user keeps putting negative comments about it on the article page. I moved it to the discussion page so it could be discussed there if people have a problem with her book. Thanks for the work you're doing! Rjhatl 17:00, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

yes, i suppose we can place some sort of caveat with the reference, i.e. catergorizing the book as a "negative reference (or source)". I've been pleased to see the Nigeria project has snowballed without too much effort on my part, though i recently elected to add the template to a bunch of Nigeria-related pages in hopes of recruiting more users (this was after i comprehended the scope of the mess that is Nigerian articles on Wikipedia, an iterative revelation). I'm going back to class on Monday so my edits may drop in number, but I'll probably maintain a negative role in attempting to ensure no articles worsen during my studies. anyway, thanks!--gozar 04:31, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
