Barry Manilow

edit

Thank you so much for your help with the profile on Barry Manilow! I was hoping somebody would come by and assist me with it. It was pretty skeletal before I started working on it in November.

In the Discussion section, at the bottom, I have links to some pictures that can be uploaded in Wikipedia that can be used in the profile. I was also wondering if you can make up a template of Barry Manilow's albums similar to the template of Paul McCartney's solo albums?

Thanks again for all your help! One thing that I noticed that it is easy to make the profile large, but for it to be higher then a B-rated profile we have to keep it more concise. 32kB is no longer the required, Celine Dion's profile is about 54 kB and is a Featured Article (FA) while Bob Dylan's profile is about 80+ and is also a FA. As of now, Barry Manilow's is currently 66kB. I have some appearances spawed off into Dick Clark Productions lifting about 7kB from the article into that article and also some Copacabana stuff into the profile above about the musical adaptions to keep the profile on Manilow more in line without being too detailed or overburdened. 67.98.154.56 16:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

1983 Blenheim Palace

edit

For reference to the discepency of attendance for the 1983 Blenheim Palace concert, I go by the amount Barry Manilow himself mentioned on the video of the concert during the beginning of "Can't Smile Without You" when he was trying to get the audience to whistle, he said "40,000 people whistling". So I would count that as a good source. The attendence can tend to be embellished or exaggarated, but to keep consistent, I would go with what Manilow himself said during the concert.67.98.154.56 16:47, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Manilow Discography

edit

I just wanted to stop in. You and the other user are doing great contributions to the Barry Manilow profile!

I just wanted to give you a heads up on a couple things. The photo gallery of the Discography is great, I really like it, but the problem with it that the profile is now a heafty 74kB large. I would suggest that you keep it intack, but have it presented a slightly different way so that it is off the main profile page to lighten the load for slower computers. The way I would suggest is to have the Discography as a seperate page that links to the main page the same way the Elton John one is with the pictures and all.

The other thing is that I think we all went overboard with the section titles. When I started making improvements to the profile it was just basically this Pre 67.98.154.56 skeletal profile that didn't even mention Manilow's high rated television specials. You see how it was just basically broken up by the decades. I thought to break it up further by tours with the years and just have everything in chronological order since after I was looking at the feedback of other nominated articles for Good Artices that there are slim Trivia sections and no guest appearance sections. For years with no tours, I just put the years down. I think your section titles were clever in some cases and even cutsy, but I think looking at the outline, the ones about the news items are too cutsy and not necessary. I wanted to let you know that I will leave up "In The News" and just take down the headlines for the news to be more frugal space-wise and just to tidey things up a little. Again great job!

P.S. Could you also grab the images on the links I put in at the end of the Talk page? Also there is as black and white clear cover of "Copacabana: The Movie" at [1] 141.150.235.194 17:05, 13 January 2007 (UTC) 67.98.154.56 (talkcontribs)Reply

Manilow Failed GA Nomination

edit

I wanted to let you know that the profile was just looked over for a Good Article nomination and didn't pass. The person wasn't brutal at all and I think was quite constructive.1/14/07 failed GA review I think we can fix the concerns and bring up the rating of the profile. You may already be working on this for the Discography, but also on that other Discography page to link to the main page, like the EJ page, we could also put the chart of Hit Singles on the same page below the album covers, as suggested by the GA rater?

I trimmed some of the repetition in the article and the extra spaces. After we get the suggestions implemented the best we can without compromising the article, we can renominate it for Good Article again and hopefully it will pass. Thanks again for all your help! 141.150.235.194 67.98.154.56 (talkcontribs)

Time

edit

That would be great Goinglogo. I really do like how you presented Barry Manilow's Discography with the pictures and all. It is a very nice presentation. Please do keep it like that, just create a seperate page just for it and the Hit Singles, when you get a chance. I think that would take care half of the concerns of the Good Article rater. I was thinking of taking down the rest of the section headlines, including the 1980s tour ones I put up, and just leaving it with the decades as it was before, except with our much improved content inside them. If that is too vague, we can always cautiously add more section headlines when and where needed. 67.98.154.56 13:42, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Medical stuff

edit

Thanks for the note. I moved the Dear Abby thing to Trivia. I guess it is optional, it is just an interesting thing since it is a syndicated column and a letter about Barry Manilow made it to print out of thousands submitted and it shows how popular he was at the time. The Trivia section could also be moved to the page of Hit Singles, once there is a seperate page, like how the Elton John article does it.

The medicial stuff seems very important today. The entertainment shows and newspapers here cover him heavily when stuff happens or is done. I think I still have to add a short fractured ankle in 1978 in Paris, France story along with Manilow walking into a wall injuring his nose in 2003. This is the kind of off career stuff seen in profiles like Celine Dion (a FA rated article) and others.

The Religion and Drugs section is just another off career section. I figure with this other stuff we should be able to keep most of the stuff we have in the Career decades sections in tack. 67.98.154.56 18:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Edited Medical Stuff

edit

Goinglogo, I wanted to let you know that I edited down the medical stuff, at your request, taking out lengthy Manilow quotes in the 1986 cyst removal, the eye surgery, and a little here and there. I thought those too were a little long. I think the part about Barry Manilow's career is a lot longer text wise then the medical stuff. On the Table of Contents the medical stuff just looks longer, but content-wise it's not. Have a good week and thanks again for any help you can do on the profile, especially with that great Discography you did. 67.98.154.56 13:55, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
