February 2019 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for repeated egregious violations of your interaction ban with Legacypac.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 11:52, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Iban violations: request review. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 12:33, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I presume you are referring to the approximately 10 edits I made to the draftspace yesterday? One of the numerous things I track for maintenance purposes is drafts moving from the userspace to the draftspace (regardless of who makes such moves; I often do not pay attention to that), i.e. pages non-deletable for inactivity becoming deletable for inactivity, moves which are fairly uncommon. If it happens that only one user is making such moves, then perhaps the problem lies with them. As someone at the thread you opened at AN/I stated, "interaction-banned users are generally allowed to edit the same pages or discussions so long as they avoid each other." I should not be barred from a good portion of draftspace, articles for creation, and miscellany for deletion (unless you think the actual edits I make there are in and of themselves inappropriate). I would be happy to pull together a list of similar edits to the ones I made yesterday by the other party to the interaction ban (though simply due to the nature of the situation, though such characterizations are not exactly accurate, it is more common for those with slightly inclusionist mindsets to take action on pages after those leaning toward deletionism have besmirched them). I suppose the more that someone accuses you of wrongdoing, even when your edits are reasonable, the more likely it is to be believed; I find the fact that this was not brought to AN/I before the block, especially as it retroactively was by the blocker, a skirting of fair community deliberation all around. The last cry of wolf was not found to be actionable. Last but not least, though I disagree that the block was appropriate at all, indefinite is certainly unproportionate to the alleged offense. Godsy (TALKCONT) 19:44, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

Per ANI discussion; be more careful in the future and use common sense while editing in areas where your edits may be seen as gaming the i'ban terms. Lourdes 15:21, 18 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Godsy, Godsy, Godsy. Given the cats-and-dogs Hx between you two, I find this most disingenuous. Maybe you should have looked at the edit history? Hmm? You two are so great when kept separate. This is a shame. As you express no great urgency in returning to editing, I'll just leave this for someone more used to dealing with the two of you. Seriously. Get a room! Dlohcierekim (talk) 22:17, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Had a moment to glance at this when I did not think I would:
@Dlohcierekim: It is unrealistic to avoid editing the same drafts as a user that has ~5,500 (to my 230) contributions to draftspace (in terms of extant pages; drafts are deleted after six months of inactivity) & ~4,750 contributions to userspace drafts and is also sometimes highly active in AfC. Secondly, I track drafts that are nominated for deletion at MfD or are moved to the userspace. The only way for me to get the "first" edit to a page under those conditions would be for me to attempt to divine which drafts that will happen to or to simply attempt to edit all existing drafts. Nobody owns the draftspace; those who edit a vast amount of drafts then complain when others edit a small smattering of the same ones are far better candidates to be barred (de facto or otherwise) from it than me. Drafts, just as artices, are by nature collaborative pages. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 23:12, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have made note of the mover this time: approximately 45/48 were made by Legacypac (the other three were by three other individuals). Thus, it would be impossible to monitor and potentially remedy this grey subset of moves without tremendous overlap with Legacypac. This also begs the question, why is basically only one user making such moves? My actions did not break the letter of the interaction ban. I can, however, see how it might appear that I broke the spirit of the interaction ban even though I did not (i.e. one does not need to look at Legacypac's individual edit history to arrive at the pages I edited, but rather such moves can be found through compiling a maintenance category/list which I demonstrate a small portion of above). Interaction bans do not prohibit parties from editing the same pages; Legacypac sought this interaction ban and has continually attempted to use it to keep me out of areas where we share an interest and divergent points of view by falsely claiming harrassment. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 05:42, 18 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Olympic mascot files edit

@AntiCompositeNumber and Marchjuly: The rename request at File talk:Paralympic 2008 Mascot.svg should likely be declined as I did at File:Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Mascots.svg. The request currently at File talk:Arn and Hem.png (i.e. a rename to "1980 Paralympic mascots") may be reasonable. Someone would also be well advised to leave a note on User talk:RainbowSilver2ndBackup letting them know that {{rename media}} should be placed on the File: pages themselves as opposed to respective File talk: pages (which it appears AntiCompositeNumber has already done now that I have investigated further). — Godsy (TALKCONT) 05:51, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

The {{rename media}} template for the Salt Lake file was added to the file's talk page by mistake; I just moved it to the file's page. I didn't think the change was justified, but I'm not a file mover and didn't think it would be proper for me to default-decline the request by removing the template. I wasn't aware the same thing was done by the same editor for another file as well. As you suggest, it might be a good idea to let this editor know where to place the templates; it might also be a good idea to let them know when such requests are generally accepted. I don't mind doing that, but it might be better coming from you since you are the person who actually declined one of the requests. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:03, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2019 election voter message edit

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:17, 19 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
