Creole Language

edit

Thanks for starting Creole Language, but please note that there is already an article on Dominican Creole at Dominican Creole French. You're warmly welcome to improve that article. Thanks, and happy editing! Wikishovel (talk) 08:02, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

They are not the same, one is spoken in Dominican Republic the other in Dominica. Gloryto11 (talk) 08:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I see, thanks for the explanation. What is the full name of the language in the Dominican Republic, if it's not called Dominican Creole French? Wikishovel (talk) 08:09, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Majority of us call it “Dominicain creóle” to distinguish it from the “Dominican Kwéyól” Gloryto11 (talk) 08:20, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
From what little I can find about it online, Dominicain creóle is identical to Haitian Creole, as noted at Haitian Creole#Dominican Republic. At the moment, the article has no references: can you please explain the difference? Thanks, Wikishovel (talk) 08:23, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Some may say they are identical because they exist on the same island but in reality they are just similar languages, for example: I’m Thirsty in Haitian Creole “Mwen swaf”, in Dominicain Creole “Jú súaf”, also during the Trujillo dictatorship he tried to erase the language so the language is pronounced with a heavy Spanish accent in some parts of the border towns, I’ll be happy to get references, but our creole language is hardly heard about. Gloryto11 (talk) 08:32, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
It would be a good idea to move it to Draft:Dominicain creóle for now, so you can take your time getting the references. Otherwise we're going to be reverting more speedy deletion nominations and redirects by other editors. Wikishovel (talk) 08:39, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey, on the source that i added there is a part titled “Situación lingüística” (Linguistic situation) where it says that on the border towns a form of Creole language is spoken. Gloryto11 (talk) 09:05, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
That section says "Solo en la zona limítrofe con Haití se habla un dialecto del francés y la lengua criolla haitiana", which translates to "Only in the area bordering Haiti is a dialect of French and the Haitian Creole language spoken." You're saying that Dominicain creóle is a separate creole language to Haitian Creole, and you might be right, but that reference doesn't support it. Wikishovel (talk) 09:16, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your contributed article, Creole Language

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Creole Language. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Dominican Creole French. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Dominican Creole French. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Adam Black talkcontributions 08:13, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

No worries, you can certainly compile the sources and move the page back into article space once you've determined the subject passes the general notability guideline. Please see Help:Referencing for beginners if you're having difficulty with citations, and let me know if you have any questions! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 05:46, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

here are my sources, if you can add them for me, it would mean a lot! Gloryto11 (talk) 06:17, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey there! I've cited these sources, so you can open this page's source code and copy and paste them into your draft. [1][2]
  1. ^ Diego, José de (1915). Unión Antillana; bases constituyentes según fueron propuestas por el Sr. Jose de Diego y enmendadas y aprobadas por la reunión celebrada en la ciudad de Santo Domingo, el día 21 de junio de 1915 [Antillean Union; constituent bases as proposed by Mr. Jose de Diego and amended and approved by the meeting held in the city of Santo Domingo, on June 21, 1915] (in Spanish).
  2. ^ Diego, Jose de (1907-11-28). "CARTAS DE JOSE DE DIEGO" [Jose de Diego's Letters] (PDF). Antillanismo (in Spanish). pp. 51–54.
One quick word of warning, though -- these sources appear to be primary sources (that is, sources written by the person who did the thing that the article is about). That's not a bad thing, but it does mean that to establish notability you'll need to find additional secondary sources (that is, sources written by someone else talking about Jose de Diego and the Antillean Union, such as news or encyclopaedia articles).
Thanks for helping improve the English Wikipedia's coverage of articles about the history of the Dominican Republic! You're doing very important work. DeemDeem52 (talk) 15:26, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
