December 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not replace pages with blank content, as you did with this edit to Majora Carter, as this is confusing to readers. The page's content has been restored for now. Request reason:

Dear Sirs - Somebody has taken out a good deal of factual info and put in a minor quote from a recent NYTimes article that does not quote sources as "Crisitcism". It also includes listing her husband as a business partner and large speaking fees as "cristicsm" At the same time, her awards, Olymic torch run, current TV projects, and and accomplishments running the non-profit SSBX.org have been largely removed. I am happy to provide information in a manner that is not "written like an advertisement" and will make sure it is all backed up by reputable journalistic sources. At this time, i feel you are protecting 'vandals' who seem to have a bone to pick. this is not the plce and i encourage you not to support that behavior.

Decline reason:

You blanked the page twice and continued to edit war after that. Not once did you discuss an edit on the talk page. And you state your reason for doing it was that there was sourced content you didn't like. — Smashvilletalk 03:32, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Accusations of vandalism must cease--WARNING edit

James Chase/Givechase/believe me, or whatever your name is, accusing someone of vandalism in the manner in which you have done on the Majora Carter article talk page is a severe violation of several Wikipedia policies. I have certainly done no vandalism. Please refrain from such policy violations in the future.

I see from above that you have been involved in vandalizing the Majora Carter article yourself and have even had your editing PRIVILEGES suspended for it. In addition to familiarizing yourself with Wikipedia guidelines and policies, lease respect the spirit of Wikipedia. Drawn Some (talk) 10:13, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are employed by Sustainable South Bronx and are thus affiliated with Majora Carter edit

James Chase/believe me/Givechase, actually I now see from Googling you that you are the Communications Director for Sustainable South Bronx.Although I do not believe it is absolutely forbidden for you to edit articles like the one on your organization or its employees, it is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED by Wikipedia policy and your contributions should strive to be beyond reproach. I do not think blanking the page is appropriate for a publicist employed by a related organization.Drawn Some (talk) 10:46, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am adding the template so you can familiarize yourself with the issues surrounding your conflict of interest as the "Communications Director" for Sustainable South Bronx which employs or employed Majora Carter.Drawn Some (talk) 12:38, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam); and,
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

That James Burling Chase / believe me/ Givingchase is not even employed by Sustainable South Bronx but as VP for Communications and Marketing for the for-profit Majora Carter Group, LLC. http://www.majoracartergroup.com/jamesburlingchasebio

I will suggest that through your edits, vandalism of pages like Majora Carter, Brad Pitt, and Sean Combs, as well as from your comments on the Majora Carter talk page, that you are not and cannot be an objective editor of this encyclopedia on subjects such as Majora Carter and Sustainable South Bronx. I will continue to monitor your promotional/marketing/PR efforts on Wikipedia and take any necessary action in requesting administrative intervention to prevent you from subverting the goals of this encyclopedia for your own professional and financial gain. Shame on you. Drawn Some (talk) 03:37, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Majora Carter, Drawn Some, etc. edit

I've been following your spat with Drawn Some over at Majora Carter and many of her related articles, and I wanted to offer you some unsolicited advice because I think you have a lot to offer. Your connection to Majora Carter and SSBx provides a great opportunity for you to help Wikipedia grow. However, it is really important that you be careful about the obvious conflict of interest. In addition to that, it seems to me that your more disruptive edits (page blanking, tagging Sean Combs, etc.) resulted from frustration and unfamiliarity with wikipedia’s policies and guidelines. If I’m wrong, I apologize for being a little preachy, but if I’m not, I hope this is helpful. Particularly relevant, I think, for your situation with Drawn Some would be dispute resolution, tendentious editing, and disruptive editing. As far as the actual content dispute, I would suggest adding relevant information so long as it reflects a neutral point of view and you provide reliable sources to verify it. And don’t forget to utilize the edit summaries to explain your edits, and, of course, use the talk page to discuss any controversial edits, remembering to assume good faith and remain civil. There is also the conflict of interest notice board if you need help getting consensus (also, FYI, Drawn Some’s outing of you violates the policy on harassment). -- Irn (talk) 19:43, 4 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

roger that, on all counts. I am happy this article has been minimized for now and can hopefully build from here after drawnsome has found a new target. I am amazed when i looked into it, how s/he had tracked down other people's references to her in order to take out references to her MacArthur, etc crazy. I am preparing segments with plenty of documentation to go up in few weeks. Thanks for your understanding, and so sorry we have to go through this!!!
--believe me (talk) 21:06, 4 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad I could help. Also, in regard to finding other articles that reference Majora Carter: on the left, in the toolbox, you'll see a link that says "What links here." If you click that, you'll see every wikipedia page that links to the one you're on. So clicking that on the Majora Carter article will show you every other article that mentions her. -- Irn (talk) 01:57, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I believe that at this point I've done what I can to get the article solidly referenced from third-party sources. It would be very useful to have a third-party source for her specifically having served as a project director the The Point Community Development Corporation. It would also be useful to have third-party sources for her early awards, most of which are uncited. I suspect that you would have an easier time than I tracking down such citations. Citations do not need to be from online sources: if there were (for example) published memos from the EPA listing its awards, things like that should generally be citable. - Jmabel | Talk 20:38, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Admin help edit

{{adminhelp}} this is Majora Carter's husband. we are tired of having to monitor these pages to see what this girl "drawnsome" and others have inserted/deleted. Majora is trying to do some very important work to help people, and watching over this website for malicious info takes resources away from that work. We are ok with how her page reads now and ask that you PLEASE LOCK THIS PAGE FROM ANY FURTHER EDITS INDEFINITELY. Please, we just want some peace to do our work. Wikipedia is making that more difficult - not its intention i hope, but please.

Thanks for your attention, James Chase

I'm sorry, but unless the article is currently being heavily disrupted, we cannot protect it according to the protection policy. We invite editors to be able to edit and improve our articles; protecting pages for this reason allows someone to effectively "own" the article, which goes against Wikipedia's principles and is considered disruptive. I don't see that User:Drawn Some is being particularly disruptive, either, simply tagging the article for necessary cleanup. If you are indeed Majora Carter's husband, however, I would recommend you review our guidelines on how to edit with a conflict of interest; these may prove helpful in your working on the article and with other editors. If you have any questions, feel free to let us know. Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:15, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
is there a {{[[Template:{{{1}}}|{{{1}}}]]}} that says something to the effect of: "the subject of this article is a person who does not endorse the information or its presentation on this WP page, and prefers if readers go elsewhere for better sources of information" WP is a great idea; but in practice it has caused real trouble for someone who has done more to help people in her life than this website ever will. please respect that.--believe me (talk) 02:45, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please stop editing the Majora Carter article edit

It is highly discouraged as a conflict of interest. I am asking you nicely to stop in the interest of the encyclopedia. It is suggested that you may remove any libelous unsourced material. As her husband and paid publicist you cannot be and have not been neutral, which is one of the prime foundations of this project. You have also "fluffed" the article up beyond what it would be had regular Wikipedia contributors without a conflict of interest been responsible for it.

You apparently do not understand that this is an encyclopedia, a free reference for the world, and not a publicity vehicle for, or highly detailed biography of, your wife.

I am tired of your personal attacks, general nastiness, accusations, libel, etc. Please step back and examine your behavior and do not continue going down this path. I thought after the note I left last night you might reconsider your behavior but then today I again find a nasty message on my talk page. Please consider this a formal warning that your behavior is highly inappropriate and could lead to you being banned from editing. See Wikipedia:No personal attacks. Thank you. Drawn Some (talk) 21:56, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

i don't know what you are talking about. you have demonstrated a pattern of trying to diminish Majora's record:

You deleted the Olympic Torch Run even though it was reported in NY Times, SF Chronicle, NY Daily News, Post etc You deleted a tv commercial reference despite it being referenced as well. You even removed the verified Peabody Award reference re: her public radio show producer. You put tags on publications she co-wrote that say they are irrelavant.

i can go on about your handy-work, but imagine if in 10 or 30 years someone who is researching the early 21st century environmental movement and wants to know more. A running list of referenced achievements and failures will paint much richer picture of the times and tactics used.

I have contributed more than others, just like anyone with a special interest who takes responsibility for a particular subject on WP.

It is my greatest wish that Majora had no WP page whatsoever because people like you make it highly unreliable. But since she does, i will be involved.

you can't possibly be paying this much attention to other articles on WP. I have obvious reasons for my interest in Majora Carter. What are yours? Please be honest. what is the story Drawnsome?

could you please apply your energy to for instance, a pop star that distributes misogynist or pro-violent messages and uses WP to drive viewers to their retail sites?

Do something constructive with your time, so that majora and i can continue to help others. you'll feel better too!

thanks,--believe me (talk) 00:05, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please see: WP:coi

"Where advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest."

Close relationships

Friedrich Engels would have had difficulty editing the Karl Marx article, because he was a close friend, follower and collaborator of Marx.[2] Any situation where strong relationships can develop may trigger a conflict of interest. Conflict of interest can be personal, religious, political, academic, financial, and legal. It is not determined by area, but is created by relationships that involve a high level of personal commitment to, involvement with, or dependence upon, a person, subject, idea, tradition, or organization.

Closeness to a subject does not mean you're incapable of being neutral, but it may incline you towards some bias. Be guided by the advice of other editors. If editors on a talk page suggest in good faith that you may have a conflict of interest, try to identify and minimize your biases, and consider withdrawing from editing the article. As a rule of thumb, the more involvement you have with a topic in real life, the more careful you should be with our core content policies — Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:No original research, and Wikipedia:Verifiability — when editing in that area.

The definition of "too close" in this context is governed by common sense. An article about a little-known band should preferably not be written by a band member or the manager. However, an expert on climate change is welcome to contribute to articles on that subject, even if that editor is deeply committed to the subject.

[edit] How to avoid COI edits

Wikipedia is "the encyclopedia that anyone can edit," but if you have a conflict of interest avoid, or exercise great caution when:

1. Editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with, 2. Participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors, 3. Linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);

and you must always:

4. Avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

Promotional article production on behalf of clients

Editors should not create articles which serve solely to promote their subject. All Wikipedia articles should contain useful information written as if from a neutral point of view. The writing of 'puff pieces' and advertisements on Wikipedia is strictly prohibited. If you contribute to Wikipedia on behalf of clients, you owe it to both them and the encyclopedia to make very sure you understand the standards for content here, and do not insert promotional material.

Please note that you have been repeatedly requested to follow these guidelines and refrain from your disruptive behavior. Frankly, between mopping up after your promotional attempts and deflecting your personal attacks, you are interfering with my ability as an editor to contribute to this encyclopedia. The next step will be for me to ask for administrative intervention to have you blocked from editing. Thank you. Drawn Some (talk) 04:07, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Drawnsome, you are the only one who is repeatedly requesting anything; i do excercise caution when editing this article, and make sure everything is referenced (now).

However, when for instance, i included all of Majora's awards, you criticized that decision and it was suggested i compare her awards section to the Dali Lama's. His says that he has "numerous" awards, and most notably..." so i let you all trim the list and put your little tag on it that says it's not relevant.

More recently, i wrote in her media section "that Majora had made numerous appearances on TV and radio including..." You deleted that line and left a comment about it being "PR Fluff" and that WP is not a place to list every time she "shows her face on tv".

I'd fill pages if i mentioned every time she's on tv, so i narrow it down to those most unlike the typical environmental activist. Something unique that an interested person could learn something from. On several occasions, you deleted referenced additions to this article without any discussion whatsoever.

Who has invested this authority in you?

Why are you so afraid to let these entries withstand the test of time? If you are so sure of your editorial point of view, surely others will agree with you in due time. So far that is not normally the case as demonstrated.

please take your "next step" and call in administrative intervention asap. I am happy to expose your penchant for destroying rather than preserving information. --believe me (talk) 04:29, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Majora Carter profile picture edit

Hi GiveChase, there's been some discussion about Majora Carter possibly joining the Obama Administration; obviously this is highly speculative at this point, but I want to help improve the page and I thought this might be a good picture for her main profile: [2] except without the Sundance Logo. Do you have a similar photo? On the other hand, I used your photo with Majora and her dog, which is a little more casual, what do you think?--The lorax (talk) 22:34, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

love the dog picture, but understand your point. i will upload a couple new images with her name in the filename for you to choose from. i don't want to start adding to this article as it always fires up Drawnsome to start deleting and destroying - however, there is loads of new info relavent to your point: she is working with the government through NAS on Climate Choices and on a sustainability task force for the DHS as well. She is doing talks for the CDC and the EPA this month too. I will put all of this in the page discussion and please feel free to pick and choose as you see fit, but this kid Drawnsome will fight you every inch of the way - he got it in for majora for some reason.thanks!----believe me (talk) 16:44, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the update. The DHS sustainability task force should definitely be mentioned in her article. I hope everyone can bury the wikihate and come together to help make this a good article.--The lorax (talk) 05:26, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
It looks like the photo uploaded fine, but as you can see below, there's an issue with permissions. You mentioned in the upload comments that it was released for non-commercial usage; unfortunately, to be included on Wikipedia, that requirement has to be waived, as well. Does the photographer still hold those rights, or does Majora Carter Group, LLC? If it's the company, would it be possible to grant the necessary permission to utilize the photograph here? Take care! user:J aka justen (talk) 07:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Majora Sundance Spring 09a.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Majora Sundance Spring 09a.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:15, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. Proposed deletion of File:Majora 2008 grey suit copy.jpg edit

The file File:Majora 2008 grey suit copy.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
