Plant stub edit

I moved a draft that is now located at Prasiola crispa. The page is on my watchlist, if there is a query I can respond, feel free to improve the text. There is an autofill reference gadget that I find helpful, have a look in you preferences and try it out. Regards, cygnis insignis 14:24, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think the page you were looking for is the talk page linked from a tab of every article. Huon made some notes on Talk:Prasiola crispa. Regards, cygnis insignis 01:34, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. An editor inserted a note about the type specimen of the species. He/she did not give a reference however! If you know the reference I would be grateful if you would be grateful if you would add it. Am I correct in saying that as it does not have a reference it should be deleted?Gigartina (talk) 20:35, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

In theory, the onus is on the person adding the fact to provide a source, type in
{{CN}}
where you think a citation should be. However, this should be easy to fix instead. cygnis insignis 20:44, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Too easy! It was me and the source is at the end of the sentence. The author Lightfoot first named it as a species of Ulva, someone else made this generic combination and Ulva crispa became a synonym: the type species is the name applied in the first description, if that is causing confusion. Excuse me if you know this. cygnis insignis 20:53, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
And excuse that I didn't read what you said closely enough, type specimen, which has an uncited note on a lectotype. I will see what I can find out tomorrow. cygnis insignis

Re "autofill reference gaget" edit

Sounds interesting! but where is it please?Gigartina (talk) 19:35, 27 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

There are a dazzling array of preferences, probably at the top of this page in desktop view (not mobile). This link will go to the "gadgets" preference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets and you can check (and save) the "citation expander" preference. There is a link next to checkbox that explains how to use it, a url or doi will complete a citation template, it is the best gadget for editing. Help request edit

I have just made my first entry editing Epilobium roseum in "Wikispecies" (I think). I would be grateful for advice. How I return to it to add further edits and in this case my reference did not appear under "References". Please excuse ignorance.Gigartina (talk) 17:54, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

The page is at species:Epilobium roseum (you can type that into the search bar, with the "species:" prefix, to find it again). However, Wikispecies is not an encyclopedia but a mere directory; it does not provide descriptions of the species (see species:Help:General Wikispecies#Scope of Wikispecies). In fact, while the other section headings like "Name" and "References" come in "international" versions that will be displayed differently depending on the reader's language settings, there is no "international" version of "Description" (I tried). Wikipedia would be a better place if you want to provide that kind of content. Huon (talk) 19:18, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
