Bilingual children whose parents come from two different cultural backgrounds (e.g. an American father and a Japanese mother) learn how to communicate with family members of each parent at a very young age. The social awareness of the one parent- one language and their understanding of the appropriate social use of their two languages may lead to an understanding that the translation of their vocabulary belongs to two different input languages. It is said that after two years old, bilingual children tent to choice the appropriate language when speaking to a monolingual or bilingual person.
