Hi Gibmetal, possible you're two generous with my English. Possibly you've not been studying for years Maltese :-)

Well, currently I'm working in El Anunciador, and plan to finish with the Gibraltar Guardian, as they were, along with El Calpense, the most significant Spanish-language newspapers (in some periods not only as a whole, but even individually with more circulation that the Chronicle, testifying the predominance of Spanish language in Gibraltar in the 19th century). Unfortunatelly, it was El Calpense the most influential, the most lasting and therefore the one with better coverage in online sources (it seems that Gibraltar y la prensa is the master source for press in the Rock, but I've spent too much money in purchasing Gibraltar-related books, and I've decided to cut costs :-)) Further articles I'll work in are Spanish Civil War in Gibraltar and Spanish language in Gibraltar, as both are interesting topics (at least for me), I have a lot of sources, and are not covered in Wikipedia (compare it with the tons and tons of time wasted spent in the status of the territory :-)). I don't know an effective way to cooperate in such articles, but I'm open to suggestions from you in a WoW. Anyway, I'll keep you informed. Hi, Gibmetal, I see your point with regard to the title Spanish Civil War in Gibraltar. However, I don't feel confortable with your proposal. I mean, some of the topics I'd like to talk about are definitely efects on Gibraltar (for example, the influx of refugees or the way the request for further democratization promoted by the Gibraltar unions was prevented because of the instability created by the war). However, others, such as the presence of Republican sheeps in the port of Gibraltar or the use of the port by the parties of the Non-Intervention Committee are not "efects" but "events" related to the War that took place in Gibraltar. Could you propose other title for the article? Issue

Hi Gibmetal, first of all, thank you for your copyedit in Party for the Autonomy of Gibraltar. It's a pleasure to work with you.

However, the content of my message is related to the article on the Spanish Civil War and Gibraltar. The issue is, as usual, my poor English. I'm currently working with two sources. One is Jackson work. It's a very good source on military aspects. The other is a Spanish-language work, which is superv in those events related to the Spanish refugees in the Rock. Well, with regard to the first one, I'm afraid that I won't be able to summarize Jackson's work without resembling too much a copyvio, as I don't think I'll manage to go too away of the source. With regard to the second, I've got the same problem: although I could write a very good text in Spanish, my translation to English will be poor. With regard to the first one, a preliminary approach would be trying to create a text and provide the original Jackson's book (for example, via flickr or mail if you trust me enough to provide me your email address :-)) to you for you to review my text. With regard to the second, I don't know whether a translation would be too much for you. Kaiane Aldorino

As from today there are a lot of images of her homecoming in Gibraltar I've added one of her on the red carpet at the airport with her crown, which will do unless anyone comes up with a better one. Yep, the car was a very good one :-) As you've possibly noticed, the second half of the 20th century is the most difficult to illustrate (too early for copyright expiration and too late for the copyleft movement). In Spain it is even worse, given the exceptionally restrictive copyright legislation (80 years since the death of the author, even for photographs). Thank you for the review in the Flora category. Now I'm really scared. I guess that take 3 will have thousands of pictures ;-) But no problem, I'll process them little by little. The most of the time it takes it the one I spend in updating the uploaders' pages. Possibly with a redirect it would work OK, but I prefer to leave them in the better state so that nothing change. With regard to rating, I'll do some research to see how it is done in other wikiprojects. With regard to rating, you can see the rules in here. We could proceed by listing the articles and assigning a rate according to the Assessment FAQ. If we agree, the rate is added and if we disagree, we can discuss them on a one-by-one case. You could invite whoever might be interested. Only two additional comments: which is the difference between a "shrine" and a "sanctuary"? and, did you read my request in commons? We definitely need a better picture of the Shrine at Gibraltar. Pictures

Hi Gibmetal, I'd like to add some pictures to your "to-do list" :-)

The first one is from the Cathedral of St. Mary the Crowned and is related to Juan Romero de Figueroa. It seems as if the altar of the Blessed Sacrament in the Cathedral keeps a marble tablet with the initials of Juan Romero de Figueroa. He's also buried there. Could it be possible to take a picture at least from the initials?. On the other hand, if you read this (page 7), you'll see than in the Gibraltar Museum there is a Spanihs Republican flag delivered by the crew of the José Luis Díaz to the TGWU. It would be nice to have a picture of the flag to illustrate the article on the Spanish Civil War. No hurries, of course. But if by chance you go to the Cathedral or the Museum, don't forget them :-)

Finlayson

Hi Gibmetal, I tried to follow WP:NC when it says "Using names and terms most commonly used in reliable sources". As long as the record in the Australian library or some of his works in the Gibraltarian press (see this) refers to him by his initials, I thought it was his most commonly used name. As far as I understand, images from the FCO would be in the public domain as they have Crown copyright and were prior to 1957 (I can suppose). For those from the Imperial War Museum I guess it should be handled in a case-by-case fashion, since I think that maybe not all are from the British government (and therefore it's not possible to guarantee Crown Copyright). It's possible that a further question to the Village Pump at commons would be needed. On the other hand, take a look at this. There are definitely many pictures we don't have in commons. Unfortunately I don't know how to describe them. You could possibly pick some and upload then to commons. --Ecemaml (talk) 22:55, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I've noticed your uploads :-) There are tens of them!!! But they'll improve many of the Gibraltar-related articles. For sure!!!

On the other hand, I've raised a question on the IWM pictures. My personal impression is that, unless actual sourcing is available, they should not be uploaded, as it's not possible to assert they were done by a UK Government agency. The question is in here. Hi Gibmetal77, I appreciate your proposal, but I have to reject it :-( Not because I don't think it's an obvious development of the Wikiproject but mainly because of my objective lack of time. Mind that not only I have now two kids (the mother, as me, is hugely tired ;-)) but my regular job and also I'm starting a PhD, so my amount of available time is extremely limited (I have also to recognize that my commitment to the topics of the project is irregular, as I'm mainly interested in history and politics and not in the rest if issues). I'll try to go on as usual, creating more articles listed in the to-do list, but unfortunatelly, I cannot commit to a specific amount of articles. I asked JohnCD to delete it. It seems that El Mundo has gone a pay newspaper and the only extensive source about Ramirez's career was in there. So... I decided not to spent more time and move to other articles (I'm working in a very short one, Alonso Hernández del Castillo and in extending Evacuation of the Gibraltarian civilian population during the Second World War. BTW, what about the wheather? I've watched on the Spanish TV that the wheather in the province of Cádiz is awful, so I guess it's the same in Gibraltar, isn't it? --Ecemaml (talk) 08:40, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

See this. Images are either from members of the US Navy or postcards from 1909 with unknown author (i.e. it's copyright has expired). Once we both are back we'll have a interesting work to do. Feel free to enhance the article whatever you can. My only concern may be references (that is, do we have any reference of which the Spanish language equivalents of the street names are? Otherwise, WPO:OR may be argued). On the other hand, I've contacted Falconaumanni, the author of File:Defensas de gibraltar 1704.jpg and he has given me the reference he's used. I'll try to ask him for it but if not possible, I'll try to go the the National Library to get a copy. It would be interesting if you can establish an equivalence between the geographical names of the map and the current ones. I'll keep on working. Larios family

Hi Gibmetal, I'm not really sure about how to describe the "national" status of the Larios family. I guess (today I'm at my parents home without access to my books) that the original sentence talking about Pablo Larios was almost textually quoted from the source. The original sentence was "Gibraltarian-born but member of a Spanish family". As far as I've read, both in British and Spanish sources, the Larios were a Spanish family both for origin and possibly for nationality (passport), even if three generations of one of the branches of the family actually were born in Gibraltar (even so, Pablo Antonio Larios was one of the wealthiest persons in Gibraltar, being member of the Commercial and Exchange Library Committee and of the Sanitary Commission, the antecessor of the City Hall, and therefore being fully integrated in the civil society of Gibraltar; his son, the Marquis of Marzales, was the Master of the Royal Calpe Hunt for 45 years). In spite of being born in Gibraltar, the had a large number of properties in the Campo and the Marquis of Marzales lived in a country mansion in San Roque (I guess). So I think that possibly your description ("Gibraltarian-born of Spanish descent") is not accurate. What do you think? --Ecemaml (talk) 11:32, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to but in. I attended a lecture at the John Mackintosh Hall about two weeks ago on the Royal Calpe Hunt[2]. The Marquis of Marzales (Pablo Larios if I'm not mistaken?) was discussed and apparently he was educated in the United Kingdom and his identity was "subject to dispute". It was also suspected that he might have enjoyed some form of dual nationality. My understanding is that he was a member of Gibraltar, Spanish and British society: Gibraltar through his connection to the Calpe Hunt, birthplace etc.; Spain through his commercial interests, lived in Algeciras, part of the Spanish aristocracy?; and British through his education, fluent in English, his son was the godchild of the the King (don't quote me on this last point though!). Well, although I was actually referring to the father of the Marquis of Marzales (also named Pablo Larios) the appreciation about the Marquis seems appropriate (although I think that the British side —not the Gibraltarian— is possibly the weakest, even if his son was the godchild of the British King, that seems sensible). Quinqueliteral (5-letter) roots in Maltese

Hi Gibmetal77! Could you maybe help me out: I would like to know if the Maltese language exhibits any roots with five or more consonants – also if they only exist only in slang. If it does, are these roots inflected as verbs, as nouns, as adjectives etc.? Are these inflections problematic? How does the National Council for the Maltese Language address these roots? • Any uninvolved administrator may, in his or her own discretion, impose sanctions on any editor editing Gibraltar or other articles concerning the history, people, or political status of Gibraltar if, after a warning, that editor repeatedly or seriously violates the behavioral standards or editorial processes of Wikipedia in connection with these articles.

Re: capital punishment

Hi Gibmetal77, sorry for the delay. On Friday I have to go to the hospital with my son. Yesterday, I repeated and went with my daughter. Nothing severe, but I had to take a day off on Friday and spend most of my time with them. Additionally, I have to submit an article on one of the subjects of my PhD courses by tomorrow, so I haven't had much time.

I've been browsing very quickly Ellicott's book looking for further information. I've only found information about the Alameda Gardens being used as place for executions (before becoming the gardens, of course). I'll add it as soon as possible (now I'm not at home). I'll try also to find the right reference of Williams' book. I'll try to review also Bond and Hills' books, but it's difficult, as we're looking for information about a topic that is possible scattered across some hundred pages. El Calpense

It's great that you've bought the bulletin and therefore the article may be expanded. There is a book on the press of Gibraltar by a Spanish scholar, Francisco Tornay (I guess he's from La Línea) but it's not easibly found in Spanish libraries. I'll keep an eye on your expansion (if you can scan the El Calpense section from the bulletin and send it to me I'd be very glad). Map

Well, the problem could be in {{Location map Gibraltar}}. The coordinates listed as "centre of the map" are actually in the center of a triangle whose corners are Manilva, Jimena de la Frontera and Castellar de la Frontera (try to follow the link in 36.336°N 5.35615°W). Compare the coordinates in the template with those in Gibraltar (36.143ºN 5.353ºW). So, as far as I can verify, the templates in, for instance Napier of Magdala Battery or St Bernard's Hospital, allow to introduce latitude and longitude parameters (to be used in the map) and a {{coords}} to display textual coordinates at the top of the article (or whatever). Mind that, in such articles, the values of the latitude are different. I think that if the template is fixed with the proper coordinate values, it would work (the articles already using the map should be updated anyway). Hi. I am trying to bring the attention of editors to a question on List of Peninsulas talk page. This relates to the "isthmus" issue that seems to have remained unanswered in previous inquiries on the same talk page. By solving the example I set forward maybe we could also reach a consensus on what is the peninsula standard that should be used.
