My concern about your username (Ghanarhea) edit

Hello, Ghanarhea, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

Your name appears to be a homonym of gonorrhea, which is a sexually-transmitted disease. As such, it would fall under the definition of usernames that "[mention] or [refer] to illnesses, disabilities, or conditions." In addition, it contains the name of the country Ghana as a means of facilitating the homonym, which could be seen as insulting to users from Ghana.

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! Leebo T/C 14:45, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well forgive me at first, because I'm not sure of the proper way to reply here. I'm assuming this is correct, or at least that's what I am going with. Basically Ghanarhea is the name of a pro wrestling move performed by Jimmy Rave, who I have been a fan of, since I started watching Ring of Honor. If you need further information, or still feel the need for me to change it, let me know. Ghanarhea 14:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for replying. Firstly, I just wanted to mention that I did notice your valuable contributions to the encyclopedia in the form of numerous vandalism reverts and a new article! I did not recognize the name as a wrestling move. Would you be willing to participate in a discussion on the issue? You obviously created the name in good faith and are contributing very well. The usual place to get other opinions on the matter is Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Usernames. I'll describe both sides of the situation - your choosing of a wrestling move and my interpretation. You can comment in that discussion as well. Does that sound good? Leebo T/C 15:02, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing, whatever needs to be done to rectify the situation is certainly acceptable as far as I'm concerned. Ghanarhea 15:05, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here is the link to the discussion Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Usernames#Ghanarhea (talk • contribs). If you see the format of the other discussions, the typical manner is to place an asterisk (*) and then bold the type of message you are going to leave, be it a vote to "Allow", "Disallow", "Comment", "Reply", etc. Thanks for your understanding in this. I second the barnstar. I apologize if the discussion caused any unnecessary stress. Keep up the good work too. Leebo T/C 19:23, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Username is OK! edit

Hello, Ghanarhea. While there had been some discussion here about whether your username met Wikipedia policy on what usernames editors can use, the result was to allow it, and that discussion has now been closed. If you would like to see what concerns were raised, you can still find that discussion in the archive. You do not need to change your username. However, if you ever wish to do so, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. -- -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 19:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC) -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 19:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Ghanarhea! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 941 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Mitsuo Momota - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Women's history editathon edit

Hey - Sorry for the late notice, but since you have yourself tagged as living in the Bay Area, I thought you might appreciate notification that we’re having an event Saturday! It’ll be held at Hoyt Hall, an all-women's house of the Berkeley Student Cooperative from 3 to 6 pm tomorrow. The main event page is here. Anyone is welcome to show up, but we’re expecting a significant number of people to come who have literally never edited Wikipedia before. If you’re an experienced Wikipedian who would be able to provide useful help to some of the newbies, your presence would be especially appreciated (and it might be a good idea for you to show up at 2 or 2:30 instead of three. Thanks, Kevin Gorman (talk) 02:01, 6 April 2013 (UTC) I’m AWB’ing this message to all Wikipedians who have tagged themselves in the bay area. I’m sorry if the message isn’t of interest to you; feel free to delete it. I’ll be unlikely to send future messages in a similar way, but if really don’t want to receive future messages of this sort, please let me know. Reply
