xFD Nominations edit

There have been a couple of "complaints" about some of your xFD nominations. I think there is enough concern that we need to have a discussion here about the causes of this friction. Begoontalk 02:48, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • I don't know what to say... I have no faith on encyclopedia because... I suck at it... what's the use? I can't find excuses for what I did... and I must admit: I did a poor job checking... I thought it was unnecessary to check and then discuss before nominate... I chickened out because I'm too biased on anything I don't like, even if it looks professional. I have poor taste... do I sound shallow? --George Ho (talk) 05:53, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
    • Slow down. You just answered most of the questions. You forgot to check and discuss before nominating - seems the biggest thing, and we all make mistakes. Shallow is not a word I would ever use to describe you - you have been putting a lot of thought into your editing recently. Begoontalk 06:03, 6 February 2012 (UTC).Reply
      • Okay... care to elaborate "a lot of thought into [recent editing]"? --George Ho (talk) 06:10, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
        • It was a compliment. That's all. You have made efforts to address all the issues raised when you were blocked, and you are making the effort to address this one early. Those are good things. Sometimes a compliment is just a compliment. Begoontalk 06:19, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

My idea for now is you carry on as normal doing all the other good stuff you are doing, but if you have an xFD you think needs nominating [see note], post the nomination statement you plan to use here on this page for us to take a quick look at before you list anything. If we do that for a while I think any issues will pop up one at a time in a way we can cope with. Does that sound like a plan for now? Begoontalk

  • ...All right... "Here": You mean either talk page or mentorship discussion? If my future statements do not qualify for AFD, then where else besides article's talk page? --George Ho (talk) 06:35, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
    • I just meant here, on the mentorship page. But please let's stick to dealing with one at a time, each in a new section. All you'd need to do is post a copy of the nomination statement you are going to use, then we could quickly look at it, and any discussions related, and see if anything looks worth talking about. One at a time stops it getting too confusing for everyone. It's a final check, before you nominate, after all other discussions are complete. Begoontalk 06:40, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notes edit

  1. This was clarified to: "anything that involves opening a discussion on a deletion list, or xFDiscussion list, or a review of any of those things" - see [1], [2].

Amendment/removal edit

George Ho is no longer under a mentorship restriction requiring him to gain permission for an xFD nomination. George may nominate items at xFD, provided he can, on each occasion, demonstrate the following:

  1. He has considered all alternatives to deletion, thoroughly, before requesting deletion.
  2. He has discussed the matter on the relevant talk pages, or elsewhere, and there was no consensus against such a nomination.
  3. He will seek advice even more carefully if the xFD in question is likely to be at all controversial.

Requesting protection edit

From my talk page:

George, if you see a template being vandalised, then report it at RFPP (and make sure you use the right formatting). If it's not being vandalised, don't. A lot of admins have those templates on their watchlists anyway, and high risk templates are protected anyway. So it's not something you need to worry about yourself. From User talk:MGA73:

I have posted messages in User talk:George Ho/Mentorship discussions, but I've not seen responses lately. Also, fastily has officially retired. Moreover, Begoon has not done one thing since March 28, but Begoon has reasons. I wonder if you have spare time to mentor me or something. --George Ho (talk) 07:38, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

update: I have requested a temporary mentor. Is this okay? --George Ho (talk) 19:06, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Hi! Sorry. Was busy. It is a bit funny. I newer knew I was your mentor untill you asked me on my talk page a short time ago :-D You are welcome to ask me about files but as you can see I'm busy so it may tak a bit time before I answer. If you can find someone with more time it would be good so you do not have to sit and wait for hours or days before you get help. --MGA73 (talk) 19:30, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

From WP:Administrators' noticeboard:

I have been a bit busy, and must apologise to George for that. George has had some difficulties (in England we would say that he has a learning disability - a blanket term for things like dyslexia, autism spectrum, ADHD and other conditions), and occasionally needs to ask "is this a good idea". Sometimes it can take more than one go round to explain something, but once he gets it, he gets it very good. In fact, if people are interested, I come across editors who could do with a little extra help of this kind from time to time, and I would be happy to co-ordinate a little pool of support. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 23:00, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

List of Curb Your Enthusiasm directors edit

This list is unnecessary. Shall I nominate it for deletion? --George Ho (talk) 16:49, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

That seems reasonable. Seems to fail WP:RAWDATA, and I would nominate it for deletion. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:05, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Nominated as AFD. --George Ho (talk) 01:24, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
