Thankfully "no concensus" was reached. We are working to get the sources so desperately desired by the people who have nothing better to do than to argue against proof. Geoffmayo (talk) 22:48, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

SimSig images edit

Hi there—when you get a chance, can you check out the licensing provided for File:Logobig2.png and let me know if it's correct? Also, File:KX Simsig.png is marked as public domain, which I would assume is incorrect. Image licensing on Wikipedia takes some time to learn properly—if you're not sure how to fix the images, let me know and I'll help. Thanks, Pagrashtak 18:00, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. For the first image (logo) I think I'd prefer the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License as that seems more appropriate. For the second image (KX), it's fair to say that is public domain as it's merely a screenshot that anybody could produce for themselves easily. Thanks. Thanks, it's so much easier when we can use a free license like the GFDL. I've switched the license here, please check and make sure you agree. Down the line, someone might request that we have documentation that the logo is released under the GFDL (to make sure you're not an imposter, giving away something you don't own, etc.) This would probably entail a statement to that effect on http://www.simsig.co.uk/ or an email to OTRS.
Regarding the screenshot, it's a common misconception that screenshots are public domain or copyrighted to the photographer/capturer. If that were true, I would be able to take a multitude of screenshots from Star Wars films and compile them into a art book that I could sell for profit—obviously George Lucas would sue for that, and win. Likewise, I can't take a picture of an Ansel Adams photograph and sell it. Screenshots and other derivative works inherit copyrights. So, if you are the copyright holder of the SimSig program, you should also hold the copyright to any screenshots taken. What you can do, however, is take a screenshot to which you hold the copyright and release it under the GFDL or another free license. Pagrashtak 20:03, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
