Gary's Ice Cream edit

The address was only a minor part of the deletion reason. The major part is that it's a single ice cream store, whose only claim to fame per the article was that it was used as the setting for a scene in a popular film. That's not enough. If the author can establish notability per WP:CORP and support it with third-party sources per Wikipedia:Verifiability, then fine (and he could have done that without seeking mediation). November Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

If I was a party to the vigile.net moderation ... edit

If I was a party to the vigile.net moderation, why was I not contacted? I only heard about this today, by chance. Nfitz 00:28, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I asked the initiator to sum up what's going on. She informed me that there were links to vigile that don't show permission was given. Someone brought up Canadian law. The papers are American, under the International Copyright Convention, that does not matter. I informed her of this and closed the case. If you can prove that permission has been shown, let me know and I will re-open the case. Geo. 01:09, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't disagree with the initiator, and I support the decision. I'm just surprised there isn't a process that makes sure that a party to a moderation is actually informed there is a moderation going on! Nfitz 02:10, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Starwood festival edit

Hi Geo, Thanks for agreeing to mediate on the Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-03 Starwood Festival. I'm not sure how to go about things. I mentioned to one of the invlved parties User:Timmy12 about the case, and he left a rather empashioned response on my user page, seems like he has little faith in mediation. --Salix alba (talk) 15:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Could I get more time? edit

The evidences might be voluminous. I have requested for advocate's help which I hope you are aware of. Advocate is not assigned now. Could I get some more time to make my representation brief and to the point?

Could you defer your time to declare is as declined?

swadhyayee 12:03, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am referring to HeBhagawan case. Here [[1]].

It depends upon allocation of advocate. I think, I will need 4 days after allocation of advocate.

Hope you will oblige.

Thanks and apologies for the inconvenience.

Mediation Cabal procedure edit

As you know, MedCab is pretty laid back, though in order to make sure things run smoothly, I'm going to have to ask you to do me some favors with your cases from now on:

  • diff When "taking" a case, please set the status of the case in the template to "open" from "new" and add wiki-links for the article(s) and involved editors. Please be sure to mark yourself there as mediator also (just your link, no datestamp please). This ensures that the case appears correctly on the cases link.
  • diff Either you or the requesting party needs to mention to all the parties involved that there's a discussion taking place.

Now, something that I've noticed that maybe hasn't quite been explained well: You are not arbitrating anything, that means, no handing down decisions. The job of a Cabalist here is to get those involved in the cases to make decisions themselves. You can suggest things, but it jeopardizes all of the Mediation Cabal if you unilaterally make decisions. Even in a clear-cut case where there is no question of policy and one user is clearly wrong, you need to explain the situation and make sure they both understand and agree before closing the case. If you can't close a case, tell one of the MedCab coordinators.

If you don't have the time to deal with MedCab cases, don't feel pressured into taking them, we can simply mark you as inactive on the rolls and it doesn't affect your standing in the slightest.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. ~Kylu (u|t) 21:14, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Item 2; The parties were not informed because I closed the case due to the copyright Geo. 16:11, 13 November 2006 (UTC) (from User talk:Kylu)
That's really what I'm talking about. Did you inform the party that they were violating copyright? We don't get to just make the decision, close the case, and walk off: We have to inform the parties involved. What if you brought a case against someone where it says "Case was closed due to this being a copyright issue." ... "Well, yeah, that's why I brought it, but the other guy is just going to put the information back now." See the problem? We haven't resolved anything that way. Also, mediators aren't cops or judges, we're there to help the other two parties resolve the situation. If you're deciding things on your own, then you're not mediating, you're arbitrating.
That said, if you really would prefer to just read evidence then decide on an action, you might be more interested in the Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2006. It's not too late to join if that's really the sort of thing you like to do. Anyway, I'd prefer to keep the conversation on your talkpage if it's okay with you. ~Kylu (u|t) 18:15, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

MOTD edit

FYI: Category:Users of MOTD was deleted by CfD (and now this new category is up for renaming). However, that said, is there some reason that it's recreation is/was necessary? (watching here for your response : ) - jc37 23:18, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

i did not realize that. i was using it to monitor how many wikipedians have the MOTD template on their page

Geo. 21:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Is "what links here" enough for your purposes? - jc37 01:15, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think so Geo. 20:22, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, Thanks for the clarification. I'll ask someone to restore deletion. (Interesting oxymoron, that.) - jc37 21:11, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, not to pester you too much, but this might interest you. edit

It looks like Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Esperanza Esperanza is up for deletion. ~Kylu (u|t) 04:38, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I don't feel that my discussions with User:Rosencomet have moved us any closer to a solution. I am therefore inclined to stop discussing at this point. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 19:30, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have been following the discussions and do not feel anything has been resolved. As AfDs are happening for articles User:Rosencomet created, the same team of supporters seem to be coming to defend them, and sometimes causing problems for those who vote to delete. I am concerned with the copious amount of spam and non-notable articles User:Rosencomet has introduced to the Wiki, as well as with the behaviour of a small handful of the people involved in this case. If this is not addressed in some sort of appropriate manner, I am concerned that the productive Wikipedians who have gotten pulled into this are going to become discouraged. --Kathryn NicDhàna 08:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

how come you never turned up? to the mediation? edit

Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-03 Starwood Festival Fearful that nothing has happened. I was hoping this would fix something. Should I still be araid to use Wikipedia? Timmy12 22:26, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Geo.plrd, are you working on this case? You have not responded to inquiries and comments. Are you on Wiki-break? Are you alive? Should we get another mediator? Should we send the rescue dogs up the mountain for you? *revs snowmobile* --Kathryn NicDhàna 22:47, 26 November 2006 (UTc) Sorry I went on Thanksgiving break, but I am back now. Starwood Festival Mediation case is not addressing issues edit

I and other people have put a great deal effort in trying to address issues in the Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-03 Starwood Festival to no avail as no mediation is taking place. It is very frustrating. Is it possible that we could get another mediator or that you could get some help? I'm quite discouraged. I don't think the person you asked a question of today even knows you did. Everyone has given up. Mattisse(talk) 19:50, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mattisse: All things considered, I've removed Geo.plrd from the case and am asking for another mediator. Geo.plrd seems quite busy, trying to set up his informal arbitration cabal and being Senior Overseer for MOTD and all. I'm suggesting that he refrain from accepting any more Mediation Cabal cases until the MedCab coordinators can review his mediation contributions. ~Kylu (u|t) 23:01, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Geo.plrd: Please don't accept any more mediations for a while, close those that are done, and try to solve those which are still open without trying to "decree" a solution. Your job is to try to get the parties to come to an agreement between themselves, not arbitrate. The Starwood festival case isn't something you need to worry about anymore, I'll see if there's a mediator who will be interested in picking up where you left off. For now, just take a break from mediations please until we've got things sorted out. Thanks. ~Kylu (u|t) 23:01, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Starwood Mediation - you sent message under a disquised name edit

I don't understand why you asked for a summary of the Starwood Mediation under a disguised name after you had been taken off the case, especially since you never answered my message during the mediation. I am very uneasy about what is going on. Since my summary did not end up on your talk page, I believe I should be informed about what you are doing with it and why you were not open about whatever it is you are doing. Please, this has been exhausting enough. Thank you. Mattisse(talk) 23:18, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

where did you make the new heading? edit

Do you mean in the Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-03 Starwood Festival or on your talk page or on the disguised name page? I don't see it any of those places. I think I am going nuts! Sincerely, Mattisse(talk) 01:18, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why do you not answer ? edit

I can't find the new heading you mentioned on my talk page. I see you are still making edits, so you are alive. Where is the new heading? Sincerely, Mattisse(talk)

I am asking about the message you left on my talk page edit

Quote from my talk page:I asked before I was removed. I made a new heading so you could find it easier. Geo. 01:07, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I am asking what you mean by this? Where is the new heading? As I asked above, I looked in the 3 places listed: the Starwood Festival Mediation page, your disguised name page, and this page. I also checked you edits as the Medication Coordinator suggested. It seems, other than his page and mine, you have edited a few California pages and a few AMA pages. So I am at a loss what you mean by the message you left on my talk page. Sincerely, Mattisse(talk) 02:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

What case page are you talking about that I should post on? edit

And what is the "above" I am supposed to be reading? This is crazy making. Sincerely, Mattisse(talk) 02:39, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what you were going to create the heading for -- that is what I am asking you -- where is it? edit

I can't find it. I don't believe you did make a heading. Your talk page still goes to the phoney Esperanza page, which you say is a mistaken page. It doesn't matter. I'm never getting involved in mediation again. Let's call it quits. I can't get a straight answer from you. I don't think you are able to give one, so I will stop asking. Sincerely, Mattisse(talk) 02:52, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
