Just thought you may want to come back and see my post regarding the USS Annapolis in the Arctic featured picture candidate. Thanks. ❄ upstateNYer18:17, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know about that... Have you any ideas on my question though? There's markings in the ice behind it fairly far off that seem to resemble a TV aerial in design (external aerial)... It seems very sharply marked, as if intentional... Gazhiley (talk) 11:14, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Good question; I have no idea what it is or how it was made. Obviously by a person though. Maybe it was the target? ❄ upstateNYer14:12, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your question on RD

Hi, If you put the photographer's name, Tiffini M Jones, into the professional social website LinkedIn you will find her quite easily, identifiable by her job, If you are prepared to join LinkedIn you can then mail her. Or maybe you know someone already in Linked In. best Richard Avery (talk) 23:17, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough... Thanks for that but tbh I'm not that fussed on joining just to find out - it was more just out of curiosity in case anyone knew what they were... Thanks anyways! Gazhiley (talk) 09:27, 7 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm just curious more than anything - in the FP for Vicinity of Pigeon Point Lighthouse you stated that the named user "sickly and cowardly attacked me so cruel and so severely "... That's quite an accusation! May I ask what they have done? No probs if not cause it's just curiosity... Gazhiley (talk) 12:57, 14 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I said everything in my comment. his cowardly, sickly and absolutely unprovoked attacks on me were oversighted as you may see from his contributions, his IP was blocked for those attacks, as you could see from IP talk page. I am not going to tell you what was in those messages just to satisfy your "curiosity" . You should not have posted that question at my talk page. May I please ask never do it again? Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:32, 14 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I wonder whether you'd be available to judge the featured article Choice of the week for next week, which would involve writing a short paragraph (< 140 words or so) giving your choice and your reasons. Here is this week's.

Please let me know. Tony (talk) 08:38, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I will admit I know nothing about this process sorry and have no idea what you are asking me to do? I've looked at your link but don't know what that page is or what I am being asked to write... If you are just purely asking me to come up with a featured article (this is the most edcated assumption I can make) I will be honest I only come here for the Featured Pictures... I rarely just browse the site and therefore would not be able to think of any articles of the quality required... Please feel free to explain further what it is you would like me to do, but you will have to explain fully as I honestly have no idea what you are asking me to do... gazhiley.co.uk 09:26, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I should have specified that we wanted you to give you opinion on the best featured picture of the week. The Signpost is WP's weekly journal, and I linked you to the current week's to give you an idea of it. We ask a different reviewer/nominator to be judge each week. You'll see the FP section towards the bottom. The current week's "window" finishes tonight, midnight UTC, so tomorrow would be a good day to do it, if you agreed. Thanks. Tony (talk) 09:35, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm intruigued definately and appreciate the offer... But sorry to sound like a dunce with this - how do I know what pictures to chose from? and how do I submit a review/reason? And how much formating do you need me to do? I see from your link the way it is presented with the picture and quote marks etc - I do not have the first clue how to do any of that... If you see my contribs they are only single line simple editing with no fancy stuff other than occasional boldness or italics... Occasionally I provide a link but it takes me half hour at least and many presses of the "preview" button to do just that... Is it something that I could just email to someone like urself to do? And if so what pictures am I commenting on? Sorry to ask so many questions but I am a complete novice at wiki editing and you are probabaly going to find it easier to contact someone else if I'm honest! But will happily help if you can help me! gazhiley.co.uk 10:00, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's your skill at reviewing/judging images that we're after; and your particular viewpoint. Quite a few judges have emailed me their text (especially judges from sister projects), and I've copy-edited it and posted it on the page for them, with formatting. In fact, we tend to trim about half the judgement paragraphs because they're too long, hehe. You'll probably have only one link in your paragraph, to the one you judge to be best. Just put the name in and I'll fix it.

Unless there are late promotions today (midnight UTC is the end-point for us), the list is already there. Click on each "nom" to remind yourself of each nomination page, plus medium-sized pics. Here are other examples (scroll down to "Featured pictures, Choice of the week, towards the bottom of each). You are free to be as technical or non-technical as you like. the draft, for you, 13 September, and 30 August. I've watchlisted this page, if you have any further queries. Thanks so much for this. Tony (talk) 11:58, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's ready for you, Gareth. Email it to me if you wish, or paste directly. There are 11 promotions to choose from. Tony (talk) 03:09, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Done... If I've saved it right anyway! hehe Thanks for the opportunity... gazhiley.co.uk 11:19, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Niiiice! Thank you very much. I'll just tweak it a tiny bit and get on with the selection of images for the page. Tony (talk) 12:12, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, maybe you will not respond, but I don't think you should remove other people's jokes - not mine, not anyone's. Hafspajen (talk) 16:45, 1 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

What joke? What are you talking about? gazhiley 20:39, 1 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dark days are coming joke picture that I added and you removed. Also a featured picture on Wikimedia Commons and is considered one of the finest images, also there to illustrate a point -that you removed. Hafspajen (talk) 00:06, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I removed it as it has no relevance to the Nom. Just because something is featured picture in one bit doesn't mean a single thing in featured pictures in another bit - In the same way that a song that wins an award for best song doesn't mean that it should also win an award for being a book. They are two very different sections of Wikipedia - if one was a mirror of the other they might as well just be combined. There was nothing to indicate that the picture was a joke - no accompanying text, no funny comment, and nothing in the caption to indicate the intended joke. As such it looked like either a badly thought out alt, or just an accidental edit. At worst, it looked like a way of trying to sway a vote by showing some other similar pictures, and therefore it was unfair - the nom should be supported or opposed on the basis of the nom itself, not because a similar one was featured in some other random part of Wikipedia. As such I have no interest in "reverting" something I feel I am correct in removing. gazhiley 09:45, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
And btw, it's Gaz, not Gazzy, hence the gaz part of my username... gazhiley 12:27, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I didn't edit a comment, other than correct a small spelling mistake... I removed an irrelevant picture? It is different to a comment, as it has no meaning that can be changed by editing it... Therefore the quote you have just provided is irrelevant... But point taken, I will bear that in mind if I ever consider editing a comment... Time to drop this now, never gonna get anywhere othersise... gazhiley 00:57, 3 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
What are you trying to show me? I don't quite understand that screen, other than that it's a record of an amendment. The only edit I made to your comment was to correct the spelling of your opening sentence - you wrote "Each to their ow,", which I changed to "each to their own,". It didn't change the meaning, didn't alter the tone, just a simple obvious spelling mistake - therefore doesn't contravene any rules. Please explain what comment edit you are referring to if not that? gazhiley 11:01, 3 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re this, if you're a frequent viewer of the desk, you should already be aware that the stated intent of the desks is routinely bent to the breaking point. Every question is seen as a potential seed for open-ended forum-like discussion. Just look at a few of the other threads currently on that page. Hi Gazhiley,

I am sorry that you sense insinuations regarding the quality of your original review on this nomination. Since you mentioned me in your retraction, I revisited my comment to your review very carefully, and I do not think I am trying to insinuate anything; I am just trying to explain contraints about the conditions under which a photo of this building can be reasonably taken. Constraints which may not be clear when you just see the photo. I do not want to to retract your vote if you feel it is not FP. On the contrary, I do not want a so-so picture to become FP, as it should be for the best of the best. Have a nice evening, and I hope that soon you will be able to procure a decent camera yourself and start contributing. Take care and have a nice evening. -- Slaunger (talk) 21:12, 5 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Arbaeen pilgrimage

edit

Arbaeen pilgrimage is not notable due to the amount of free foods served, rather it is notable to the large population gathering there annually. It was said that almost 25 million people participated the procession by 2015. Any way, regarding the picture I should tell you that I had took that in my trip to Iraq for the pilgrimage. According to Sayed Mahdi al-Modarresi, writing for The Huffington Post:

Arbaeen should be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records in several categories. The biggest annual gathering, longest continuous dining table, largest number of people fed for free, largest group of volunteers serving a single event, all under the imminent threat of suicide bombings.[1]

Once again I tell you that such scenes can been seen only during Arbaeen procession. Mhhossein (talk) 05:50, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Mhhossein. Whilst I cannot deny that the picture IS of that pilgrimage, this actual picture does not show it. It just shows a guy sitting on the floor with food on a tray on his head, and people walking on a non-descript road towards him... I fully agree that it is what you say, but in terms of putting this picture on the front page of Wikipedia (which is after all what we are voting to do), people who aren't aware of the Pilgrimage (like me) are just going to see a picture of a man with food on his head sitting on a road. Ergo from an EV point of view it is not enough to Support the nomination sorry. gazhiley 15:32, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
It was not an attempt to change your vote. I was just trying to let you know. Thanks for your attention. Mhhossein (talk) 20:46, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
