Motorcycle club articles edit

Kudos for all your very valuable contributions to the various motorcycle club related articles! It's so nice to have another editor who understands the nuances of the MC world. I'm glad you are here. ;) Mmoyer 02:44, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of motorcycle gangs edit

I am headed out of town for a couple of days and will respond when I return (probably Monday or Tuesday). I didn't want you to think I wasn't interested. Have a wiki day! Mmoyer 02:22, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

William Queen edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of William Queen, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.ereader.com/author/detail/11439?author=William_Queen. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 22:07, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyright Violation edit

Please do not remove copy vio tags from an article's text. There is a process by which you may appeal the deletion and/or continue writing the article set out in the tag on William Queen, but it is not done for the author to remove tags. I have replaced the tag. Please leave it alone until an Admin reviews the matter. Bielle 00:04, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough. However, you should be aware - I was in the middle of writing the article when the bot applied this original tag. This was within seconds. I was unable to even save my initial revisions. Also, it is such a short article that the information can only be written in so many different ways. I will continue to work on the wording of the article so as to remove the implication of copyright violation. I am relatively new to Wikipedia and applaud the effort to prevent copyright violations within Wikipedia, but we need to be reasonable here. I think you should review the operation of the bot and either apply a time delay or a minimum number of similar sentences/paragraphs before it is flagged as potential copyright violation. Garth of the Forest 18:38, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Garth: the second tag wasn't placed by a bot, but by me. Copyvios are considered very serious on Wikipedia. It is one of the very few reasons any editor, finding a copy vio, is enjoined (not just "permitted) to delete the ilegally used text immediately. That's also why the bot jumps on the text immediately. The article isn't lost, however, and you can follow the link in the tag and continue to work on it. You just can't add back the copied text. Generally speaking, you are better to draft the whole of your article, or at least a goodly chunk of it, in your own words, and not open the new page until you can "copy and paste" YOUR words right away. A blank page will also attract a Speedy notice. Wkipedia doesn't do "placeholder" articles. That was an abrupt start for you, however, but things will smooth out. After all, if you make the biggest mistakes right away, everyhting very quickly gets much better. Happy writing. Bielle 20:35, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Lesson learned - which is - finish all my major edits prior to saving the article for the first time. In this case, while editing another related article, I came across a related, yet missing small (sidebar) article (about ATF agent William Queen) and quickly did a cut and paste on a relatively short paragraph I found about him that I then saved, relatively unchanged, and got called away to my "real world" before I could finish my re-write. I agree with you that making the big mistakes early should make for smoother sailing later on. It was not my intention to "rip off" another writer. Thanks for the pointers. Ed Stelmach edit

I've deleted a good portion of this edit, because it blatantly didn't comply with WP:NPOV. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 05:12, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

That was fast! Good job. Saves me doing it myself (I couldn't resist - I should have bit my tongue or put my tongue-in-cheek comments on the discussion page). Did you plan to take some time to provide any references? Garth of the Forest (talk) 05:22, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm actually devoting most of my Stelmach-related energies to halfheartedly working on a rewrite, which can be found in its current form here (one of the weaknesses of the Wiki model is that when you get fifty people adding a sentence or two here and there, you eventually get something that looks like it was written by fifty different people adding a sentence or two here or there). Clan Steverson edit

You're right - as the article's creator you shd have been notified that it was up for deletion - it never occurred to me to double-check as below.

I am sorry for calling it "genealogical vanity" if this is a genuine clan. But you put your finger on the problem yourself: there were no good / verifiable sources and based on the article as it stood - and indeed on some admittedly quick googling - it was impossible to tell whether this is a real clan or the equivalent of Clan Knoblauch. Better luck with the next version - with solider sources.HeartofaDog (talk) 11:10, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

HeartofaDog, just so you know, Garth seems to have known about the afd all along. He and User:Fram (who nominated it for deletion) were discussing the deletion on the article's talkpage [1]. Garth was also editing only a couple hours before the User:PhilKnight made a final decision in the afd [2]. Garth knows how afds work, he has voted on one before [3]. So it seems he knew all along, but didn't bother to participate.--Celtus (talk) 11:37, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
You give me much more credit than is due. First of all, I was not the creator of the article, but rather a user who stumbled across it and found the information intriguing. Secondly, I doubt I have nearly as much experience as a WP editor as you guys do. I'm not sure how all this process works in the WP world. As a sidebar FYI, I have since found this information that was in the article in near verbatim form elsewhere on the internet so perhaps copyvio may have been the better reason to nominate this one for deletion. Anyway, it appears as though you guys made the right decision, and it stands (for now). Happy trails to all! Garth of the Forest (talk) 03:29, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

List of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs edit

I see that you were involved in the changing the redirect so that List of Motorcycle Gangs redirects to List of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. Is that correct? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Was there really consensus on that? Obviously not all motorcycle gangs are "outlaw" and there is at least one on that list that clearly isn't. What is your opinion? I'd like to see the list titled "List of Motorcycle Gangs" and have "List of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs" redirect it it... Proxy User (talk) 00:52, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

As noted earlier on your talk page, just for the record, yes, I was involved in contributing to the articles, but I had nothing to do with the various re-directs. Please refer to the article discussion pages for background on the various on-going discussions with regard to the use of the supposedly pejorative word "gang" when used in the same sentence as "motorcycle". Frankly, if one wanted to take a technical linguistic view, I would think it would be the word "outlaw" that would be more offensive to those so labeled. Anyhoo, I believe the article now that is of most interest for my research on biker gangs is now entitled "List of Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs". This is a very valid (and welcome!) compromise so we can all get on with the more important tasks at hand rather than debating semantic nuances. List_of_heads_of_state_and_government_by_net_worth#Puerto_Rico edit

Just wanted to grab your attention when you logged in and ask you to take a look at the comments I left on the page. Hopefully we can agree on this and perhaps make the list a little better between the pair of us... Hope all is well! Dphilp75 (talk) 15:36, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited Hells Angels, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Laval (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). I donated the original content to Wikipedia. This automated message was triggered when I split the content into two separate articles. Annointed edit

From your userpage:

I am a self-annointed genius, but still human and therefore not infallible.

"Annointed" isn't a dictionary word. Did you want "anointed" or "appointed" there? Marnanel (talk) 19:37, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

LOL. Check this http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/annointed out. Garth of the Forest (talk) 19:09, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. You were asking people in that paragraph to tell you if they think you've made a mistake. I assumed that because you were using an obsolete form of the word that this was an error. Marnanel (talk) 19:12, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
No offence taken. I actually found your comment quite amusing. Garth of the Forest (talk) 19:37, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Grim Reapers Motorcycle Club (USA) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Grim Reapers Motorcycle Club (USA) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. –DMartin 05:56, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
