Crispy Gamer for FA

This time, I shall follow the rules. Are you interested in improving the article so that I can nominate it for the status? Gamingforfun365 (talk) 17:54, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

  • @Gamingforfun365: Why can't he just improve the article and nominate it himself? I don't understand why you want to nominate articles for FA-status when you haven't worked on them. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:14, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
For two reasons:
  • a. There is fairly much nothing that I can do to improve the article, and
  • b. I have recently promoted the article after reviewing it.
I really am desperate to know how to do this FAC business (I had similar trouble with doing the GAN business for video game controversies). Gamingforfun365 (talk) 18:20, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
So you're so desperate to get a Featured Article to nominate something you barely worked on? At this point I don't want you to post on my talk page with an attitude like that. GamerPro64 18:32, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) @Gamingforfun365: Point B is irrelevant. Point A goes against your argument. If you are not knowledgeable on the topic and cannot help improve the article, then you cannot address the oppositions that may be brought up at FAC. Therefore, you should not be nominating the article for FAC. End of story. You are not going to learn anything about FAC by drive-by nominating articles that you have not contributed to. If you want to learn about FAC then I suggest you find an article/topic that you have an interest in and are knowledge of and start improving it. Many editors would perceive your actions on Crispy Gamer as trying to take the credit for doing no work. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:33, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
What if I were to tell you that I am interested in this topic and that I am fact-checking? Gamingforfun365 (talk) 18:37, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
If you interested in it then great. But what about the parts where you are knowledgable of the topic and make some significant contribution to the article? You already admitted that you can do nothing to improve the article... Also, given that you already conducted the GA review, you should have already "fact-checked" the article to ensure information met WP:V. So you're not really doing anything but drive-by nominating it. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:46, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Well, maybe I am wrong. Gamingforfun365 (talk) 18:55, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Instead of arguing, should I delete this discussion? I was only trying to follow the instructions by consulting a regular editor of an article. Gamingforfun365 (talk) 19:18, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Just stop posting on my talk page. And please do not remove this thread from my talk page. GamerPro64 19:22, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Should I start a GAR for Crispy Gamer, as I have initially not fact-checked the article to make sure that it is accurate and reviewed the article in haste? Gamingforfun365 (talk) 05:10, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

I also largely did not fact-check the other three articles that I have reviewed; I have mostly only pointed out the obvious issues. Gamingforfun365 (talk) 05:14, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
One, no. Do not start of a GAR just yet. Actually fact-check the articles and determine they don't meet the Good Article criteria. Second, have you actually read the criteria for Good Articles? Third, actually take reviewing articles seriously. If you're not fact-checking or following the criteria for reviewing, you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Again, not ready the rules of Wikipedia will get you anywhere. GamerPro64 05:19, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
This is why I do not like reviewing articles: it is boring and long, and I just do not have the patience, which explains why I am relatively hyper in my editing. No way that I am ever going to review a GAN again; I hate it. Just saying that I do not like it. Finally, I am actually editing Crispy Gamer. Gamingforfun365 (talk) 03:14, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
I tried it because I thought that I would like it, but it is too long for someone with hyperactivity, so I quit as a reviewer. Gamingforfun365 (talk) 03:16, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Okay. Can you please stop posting on my talk page? I've already asked you before. GamerPro64 03:18, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Admin

The rack of green in the chart at BN is indicative of this being a really good start to the year for admin candidates.

I've had a look back at some recentish RfAs and found yours.

I'm inclined to encourage you to go through it all again, but the big question first is...

...do you think you've addressed some of the more substantial oppose issues during the intervening months?

Cheers and happy new year (and of course it's fine to say "no way, not again" - I know RfA is bruising) --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 14:37, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

I think I addressed the opposes issues lately. If anyone wants to nominate me they can. GamerPro64 17:49, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
Can I suggest you undertake one of these to test the waters? --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 13:53, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
I already taken one of those. GamerPro64 15:11, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

I've reviewed it. Feedback was generally positive. Negatives were mostly about things that were then (some time ago). Except for this one:

6/10 - my feelings toward your adminship remain the same since your first RfA, but you'll have the following battles ahead: it has been less than a year since your last RfA, relative lack of AfD !voting experience, and lack of article creation. None of these are insurmountable, given the length and quality of your contributions in other areas. Therefore I think you have a better than 50% chance of passing if you ran today, but it isn't a gimme, unfortunately

"less than a year" - you're OK on that now "lack of AfD !voting" - have you been active there since? "lack of article creation" - I'd ignore that, or rather, be up front about it. Not everyone needs to be an article creator. You need to demonstrate sensitivity to those that are and an understanding of the issues around content. There aren't many Ealdgyths around, sadly, but Wikipedia needs gnome admins too, in areas such as vandal fighting, page moves etc Whaddaya fink? --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 09:58, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Seconded! You'd make a good admin and already have my strong support -- Samtar talk · contribs 10:24, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

NB a decent track record (both in terms of quantity and quality) at AfD can be a useful too for helping reassure other Wikipedians that you understand content issues. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 11:47, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Okay. I am interested in going to at it again. I don't do much for AfD as I'm more interested in speedy deletions. But I would like to take part in AfD more in terms of admin assistance. GamerPro64 15:48, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
A good record with speedies is useful, but if you say you want to participate in AfD as an admin, I suggest you settle into it for a month or two as a participant first. If you're less interested in AfD, I'd say go for RfA now. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 15:50, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
I'm honestly not really interested in AfD. But at the same time, there would be concern about what I would be doing as an admin. Would just wanting to contribute to speedy deletions be enough? GamerPro64 16:04, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
No need for the tools is a common oppose. Ealdgyth responded by citing an interest in WP:ERRORS. I see no reason why your interest in speedy wouldn't be valid. You have a track record, you say. Wikipedians will just need to look at that track record and see whether they like it. Not having an interest in AfD is fine - it's not a requirement and it's better to say that than to imply you'll go stomping in without knowing anything and break things :-) --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 16:15, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Okay. That makes sense. So I guess the idea is to do a self-nom, though I don't know how well those do in comparison to people nominating others. GamerPro64 16:23, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
I don't either. Give me a few days to review you and if I'm happy with what I see, I could nominate you? Either way, I'd recuse from closing / Cratchat. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 17:01, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

AC report

Hi, just a few items on the AC report:

  • Thank you for clarifying the site ban issue. I'm still not 100% understanding; was Captain Occam first topic banned in 2010, then site-banned later that year?
    • Did the wrong year. He was site banned in 2012. GamerPro64 02:54, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Any plans to pursue the interviews you had discussed? Did you get my email response?
    • I do plan to pursue the interviews but haven't gotten started due to getting ready for classes starting up again. GamerPro64 02:54, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
  • In a few places, you say "the Committee". This should be either "the committee" or "ArbCom" -- I don't have a strong preference either way, you can mix them as you like.
  • I'm sorry, I don't remember if we've discussed; would you like to join Slack, the chat platform we use to put together each issue? If so, let me know, and I'll send you an invitation via email. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 02:49, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
    • I've never used Slack before. Do I need to sign up or get an app or something? GamerPro64 02:54, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
  • @Peteforsyth: Pinging you about the Slack thing. GamerPro64 01:34, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
    • Thanks for the ping -- just getting past the production whirlwind and resuming other stuff. I just sent you an invitation by email (check your spam folder if you don't see it). If you've ever used IRC, it's very similar in structure, but with a much nicer user interface; there's a web app, and also an app you can download (Mac, PC, Linux, mobile). Let me know if you have difficulty. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 02:50, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Gamer,

I was wondering if you notified anyone from WP:HOCKEY about your nomination for this topic for FTRC. I looked at WT:HOCKEY, User talk:Scorpion0422, and User talk:Maxim, and it looks like none of them were notified.

I am no longer active, so please notify me once you have replied. Kind regards. --K.Annoyomous (talk) 08:36, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

I did notify the Hockey WikiProject before taking it for review. No one replied to me so I thought they were inactive. Also thought so with the editors you mentioned. But of course the topic can always be taken back to FTC once everything's in order. GamerPro64 15:23, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

I've relisted an RfC that was run at WT:Admin in Sept. 2015. It is at Wikipedia talk:Conflict of interest#Concrete proposal 3 as there are a number of similar proposals going on at the same place. Better to keep them together. Smallbones(smalltalk) 04:51, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Hey, long time no see! Thanks for the kind words about Phantasmagoria (video game), I enjoyed working on that one. Unfortunately I've not really had much time to dedicate to Wikipedia lately, and as much as I'd love to bring it to FAC some time, I fear I might not have the time investment to dedicate to such an intensive review. I'm coming to you because of your technical abilities. If you can not solve this problem, can you direct to somebody that can. [Recently I had a GA review on this above article and it passed. This was on 6 February 2017. However, there is NOT a green icon on the article itself indicating it is a Good Article. Maybe GA1 messed it up, or whatever. Can you figure out how to place a green icon on the article or pass onto somebody that can? Thanks. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 14:32, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

GT question

Hello there. I'm looking to nominate the Marvel vs. Capcom series for good topic status soon, but before that, I had a question about the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite article, a game that won't be released until (supposedly) the end of this year. I know that I can have it added to the topic later, but I was wondering if there is anything I should do with the article now (or if I'm supposed to refrain from nominating until the game is released or something). Thank you for your time. Wani (talk) 14:02, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

It needs to have a completed Peer Review before nomination. GamerPro64 14:36, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
Another question. If the peer review goes unanswered for over a month and I close it, does that count as 'completed'? I also might make a post on WP:VG's talk page asking for feedback, if that's allowed. Wani (talk) 00:08, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Yeah it would count as completed. GamerPro64 00:10, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@GamerPro64: Hey, sorry to bother you again. Am I allowed to make a post on WT:VG asking for opinions about my nomination, or is that against procedure? Wani (talk) 11:41, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
You can do that. GamerPro64 13:58, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Quick Question

Hey Gamer. Just a quick question about good topic/featured topic candidates. I've been looking around, but perhaps in the wrong places. Can you nominate more than one topic at a time to undergo the candidate process? I can't find a statement anywhere regarding this, but maybe there is. Thanks, Carbrera (talk) 05:16, 2 July 2017 (UTC).

To answer your question you can nominate more than one topic. I recommend it being two so it doesn't clog the system. Also I suggest putting your two cents into any nominations that have barely any discussion so they can go by faster. GamerPro64 03:27, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

Comment regarding Throne of Fire GA nom

Hi there Gamer, just wanted to let you know that I was about to review Throne of Fire, however, it needs some copy editing before it is ready to be reviewed. I have done some of the work but was wondering if you wanted to work with it some more before I started the review? --TheSandDoctor (talk) 22:51, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

If you want to go ahead with the review by all means start it up. It'll probably help with any specific issues the article has. GamerPro64 04:00, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
Actually, I don't feel comfortable with you reviewing the article after looking at Talk:Clock Tower II: The Struggle Within/GA1. I'd rather have a more seasoned editor look at my article instead. GamerPro64 04:03, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I wanted to ask you something. If I were to bring Sonic Adventure, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Colors (currently at GAN), and Sonic Generations to Good Articles, would that allow me to make a Good Topic about Generations? GamerPro64, please accept these holiday wishes :)

I've caused this year to end on a chord of disappointment for many, but I hope that despite my mistakes and the differences in opinion and perspectives, and regardless of what the outcome is or in what capacity I can still contribute in the coming year, we can continue working together directly or indirectly on this encyclopedic project, whose ideals are surely carried by both of our hearts. I'm hoping I have not fallen in your esteem to the level where "no hard feelings" can no longer ring true, because I highly respect you and your dedication to Wikipedia, and I sincerely wish you and your loved ones all the best for 2018.

FE GTC notification template

Quick question - what's the reason you removed the GTC notification in this edit? I was just following the GTC nom instructions which said to leave that on the talk page, and the nomination isn't finished yet... if anything, I'd think the complaint would be not adding it to all the subpages being added (which I didn't think would be necessary). SnowFire (talk) 23:25, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

I honestly thought that it was for another nomination. I confused it with something else. Though it didn't need its own section in the talk page. It could have just been placed on top of the page. Sorry about that. GamerPro64 23:27, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Hmm, line 7 doesn't really say of the GTCadd instructions ("Add the template {{FTCaddmain|ExampleTopicName|1}} or {{GTCaddmain|ExampleTopicName|1}} (as appropriate) to the talk page of the main article in the series, and {{FTCadd|ExampleTopicName|1}} or {{GTCadd|ExampleTopicName|1}} (again, as appropriate) to the talk page of each new member article. Replace the number 1 with the actual addition number. This lets the editors of those articles know about the nomination."). I personally think a new section is better; isn't everybody trained to totally ignore the template spam at the top of every talk page? ;-) SnowFire (talk) 23:32, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
The template eventually has to be removed after a GTC so it would be pointless to create a section for the template as the section would have to be deleted itself. That's how I see it. GamerPro64 23:42, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

What am I doing?

I have no clue what to do here on Wikipedia for 2018. No ideas for article work and the like. Can't figure out what else to do here, really. I feel burnt out on anything do to. If anyone has a suggestion feel free to drop one. GamerPro64 02:21, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

How about Mega Man 7? I know this is kinda random but I came across it today and the article's looking good; just needs a better reception section and some citations. JOEBRO64 02:55, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
I did have a thought about Mega Man 7 the other day. I might look at the article again tomorrow. GamerPro64 03:01, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
How about picking up The Signpost again? We're so desperate to get more writers, anything you add would be greatly appreciated. Eddie891 Talk Work 19:10, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Barnstar

  The Special Barnstar
I wanted to thank you for this note you put on my talk page back in 2014 here: [2]. Editing Wikipedia can feel so anonymous, and if you hadn't dropped that line, I probably wouldn't have kept coming back, especially after I've seen all the people that I used to know around here fall by the wayside. It meant the world to me and I'm here today to say thank you because you reached out-- thanks for all the work that you do here and keep it up! Nomader (talk) 02:49, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for the barnstar, Nomander. I usually like to keep an eye on other editors, especially ones that always do a great job here on Wikipedia. GamerPro64 03:05, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Request for copyedit

I noticed you are listed as backup for The Signpost's Arbitration Report. Could you possibly do a copyedit on next issue's edition so that we can declare the section ready for publication? Thx ☆ Bri (talk) 03:51, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

Some GA help?

Sorry for the intrusion, i was looking at the Meteos article and noticed you were the one who helped get it to GA-class. I'm working on Edge (video game) and Every Extend Extra (also trying to get it to be renamed to just Every Extend and encompass it as a series). I thought maybe I could get your help on these games to GA-class as well. IMHO, Edge (video game) is really close to becoming GA. Every Extend Extra still needs some expansion to B-class first before considering it for GA. I also have my eye on a few games such as Lumines, Space Channel 5 and Rez. Sorry if this is coming out of the blue. I wanted to ask in WP:VG but judging from the responses, it seems its better to ask for individual assistance rather than group collaboration.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 09:20, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

Personally Meteos was one of my favorite games for the DS so that was a passion project. Not sure about doing another puzzle game. But I will give Edge a solid read through to see if it'll pass a GAN. GamerPro64 20:11, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
I thought that was the case. I jus thought that you also played all of the games i mentioned. If you have a chance, try Edge if its not too expense on smartphone. I wanted to focus on the other games because I'm a fan of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's work and wanted to work on his articles to see if i can get it up to a Good topic or Featured topic. Is Meteos the only game you played Tetsuya Mizuguchi worked on?Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 22:43, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Yes it is. GamerPro64 22:55, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
If you like Meteos, i think you'll enjoy his other works too.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 22:58, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

Question about Template:WPVG announcements

Hi, are merge discussions added to this template under "current discussions"? I was going to add this but I wanted to make sure that's what the section is used for. Cheers, Anarchyte (work | talk) 12:35, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

I think so. GamerPro64 12:38, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

File:Loss comic.jpg

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:20, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Is this loss?

Consider moving your approved nomination to Wikipedia:April Fool's Main Page/Did You Know. - hahnchen 15:37, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

The hook itself would have to be approved first. But I can get behind it being used for April Fools. GamerPro64 16:09, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

Phantasmagoria (video game) scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that I've scheduled Phantasmagoria (video game) to appear on the main page as today's featured article on August 24, 2018. If you need to make tweaks to the blurb, it is at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/August 24, 2018. Ealdgyth - Talk 15:52, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, and Hunter Kahn, for the article, introduced: "Made by one of the most important women video game designers Roberta Williams, this horror game was a far cry from the type of games Sierra On-Line made back in the day, such as Space Quest and Police Quest. Still the history behind the creation of this game, along with the controversy and banning from Australia once it was released, a fascinating look at gaming back in 1995"! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:34, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Loss (comic)

On 28 August 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Loss (comic), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that on its tenth anniversary, the webcomic "Loss" was replaced by an edited version titled "Found"? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Loss (comic)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
