Speedy deletion nomination of Abdallah Ali-Nakyea

edit

Hello UG-SOL,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Abdallah Ali-Nakyea for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Abdallah Ali-Nakyea, from its old location at User:UG-SOL/sandbox/Ali-update. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. - RichT|C|E-Mail 16:54, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:UG-SOL/sandbox/Kojo

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:UG-SOL/sandbox/Kojo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username for this account instead, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (which is this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be in use by another account. You can use this page to search the list of registered accounts and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If your search returns that "there is no global account for [your search term]", that means it is available.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (which is this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. Cabayi (talk) 18:48, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your message. My username, "UG-SOL," is an abbreviation of my full name initials and does not represent any group or organization. I apologize for any confusion and am willing to change it.

Here is my request for a username change:

Request reason:

My current username, UG-SOL, represents my initials and not a group or organization. However, I understand the need for clarity and compliance with Wikipedia's username policy. I kindly request to change my username to SolugWriter. Thank you for your understanding. UG-SOL (talk) 19:34, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

@UG-SOL: I'm not an administrator, so I'm not going to answer the unblock request... but you are writing about topics in relation to University of Ghana School of Law... or UGSOL... so please don't try and pull the wool over our eyes. Your new username request is no better, still doesn't identify YOU and 'Solug' is just 'School of Law University (of) Ghana' - RichT|C|E-Mail 20:30, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

My current username, UG-SOL, represents my initials and not a group or organization. However, I understand the need for clarity and compliance with Wikipedia's username policy. Gaby is my middle name and Solo is a short form of my first name. I kindly request to change my username to GabySolo. Thank you for your understanding. UG-SOL (talk) 05:39, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Your claim not to be associated with the UG-SOL is simply not believable. The username, editing history and photo credits prove otherwise. -- Euryalus (talk) 22:09, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

That's better as a new username. However, I'm concerned that you still insist that your current username has nothing to do with the University of Ghana School of Law when it's quite obvious that it does. You clearly have some sort of relationship with the school; aside from your username, you claim that you personally created this professionally taken image of Professor Ali-Nakyea. Please clarify your relationship with the school now- now is your chance to be open and honest about this. 331dot (talk) 08:00, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I want to clarify that I have no formal relationship with the University of Ghana School of Law. My intention for joining Wikipedia is to be part of the large community of editors who update articles and create new content. I have done extensive research on how to contribute to Wikipedia and have noticed that several notable individuals in Ghana's academia are not covered. As Wikipedia is a source of verifiable information, my aim is to fill these gaps without promoting any individual or organization. My contributions are based on reliable sources and aim to enhance the encyclopedia's breadth of knowledge.
Regarding the image Ali-Nakyea, I received it directly from him with permission to use it on Wikipedia, adhering to the proper licensing requirements after the first upload of him was tagged for copyright issues.
I apologize for any confusion caused by my previous username and assure you of my commitment to adhere to Wikipedia's guidelines. UG-SOL (talk) 09:19, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You didn't adhere to the licensing requirements, you claim that you personally took the image and are the copyright holder. If you are not the copyright holder, you must immediately(right now) go to Commons and request deletion of the image, or change the information to reflect that the image was made available under a free license.
You didn't pick him at random to edit about. You also claim to be the copyright holder of this image of Dr. Atuguba. Looking at your edits, it looks like you made your 10 edits to get autoconfirmed(and be able to directly create articles), gaming the system. All of your edits since have been related to the personnel of the School of Law. Please stop insulting our intelligence by claiming that you have "no formal relationship" with the School of Law. I'll give you one more chance to detail the specific nature of your relationship with the school. 331dot (talk) 10:54, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Request account unblock so that I may participate in the Africa Wiki Challenge. I am eager to contribute positively to the enrichment of African-related content on Wikipedia and believe that my involvement in this initiative will be beneficial to the platform's diversity and inclusivity.
I want to emphasize that I have no affiliation with the School of Law, as mentioned in the block reason. I am a new user who is only trying to contribute to the encyclopedia in good faith. My intention is to add valuable content to Wikipedia and support its mission of providing free access to knowledge.
It's important to me to address the notable deficiency in content representation, particularly concerning Ghana and Africa as a whole, on Wikipedia. By participating in the Africa Wiki Challenge, I aim to help rectify this imbalance and foster greater interest in reading existing African-related articles on the platform.
I understand and respect Wikipedia's guidelines and policies, and I am committed to adhering to them moving forward. I kindly request that you reconsider the block on my account, as I am eager to make meaningful contributions to Wikipedia and support its goals. GabySolo (talk) 15:20, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You need to immediately either fix the licensing of the images or request their deletion; you are still claiming to be the copyright holder and that they are your personal work. 331dot (talk) 16:39, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
What edits do you want to make? Would you agree to completely abandon efforts to edit about the School of Law and its staff? 331dot (talk) 16:46, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
My account's editing privileges haven't been reinstated despite updating my username. I'm committed to rectifying licensing issues with images once my editing rights are restored. I'm passionate about African politics and education and I'll redirect my focus to other African-related topics due to the trouble the School of Law edit caused. I apologize for any confusion my username or article choices may have caused GabySolo (talk) 21:29, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You are not blocked on Commons, you can go there and address the licensing now. 331dot (talk) 00:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
