September 2015 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Gabrielquotes", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it refers to a specific website. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. De728631 (talk) 19:17, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm so sorry, I checked out WP:UNP and didn't find a rule against having names that refer to websites? ("Gabrielquotes" isn't a commercial website so isn't covered by WP:SPAMNAME.) Could you clarify what your concern is? Thanks. Gabrielquotes (talk) 19:20, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, according to the username policy, "usernames that unambiguously represent the name of a company, group, institution or product" are considered promotional – even if your blog is not commercial. On a related note, your entry at the Copyright notice board may have been well-intentioned but please note that this board is only for Wikipedia-internal copyright inquiries. This all makes it a bit hard to believe that you are here to build an encyclopedia. De728631 (talk) 19:36, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't see how a personal blog is "a company, group, institution or product"? To reach such a conclusion would require one to bend the natural meaning of the words rather a lot... Gabrielquotes (talk) 19:38, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Isn't the purpose of a weblog to publicly share one's thoughts and experiences? A blog is a public diary and/or collection of comments which makes it a product that is meant to be viewed by others. Otherwise you wouldn't put it online where everyone can read it, would you? De728631 (talk) 19:44, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I think that in normal English, the word 'product' refers to an article or substance that is manufactured or refined for sale (more recently it has also been applied to services). But perhaps we'll just have to agree to disagree. Gabrielquotes (talk) 19:46, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I think we're disagreeing on this matter. Nonetheless I'd like you to know that new accounts are frequently blocked because of their name representing a website, be it commercial or personal. I won't block this account but please have a look at this message and be aware that other administrators might still disable your account. De728631 (talk) 20:04, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, according to WP:BADNAME the right course of action would be for a troubled editor to open a 'request for comment' rather than to block outright, so I'll take the risk. Thanks for your concern though. Gabrielquotes (talk) 20:09, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
