August 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.-Andrew c [talk] 21:37, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Have you had a chance to review WP:EL in order to see what sort of links are generally acceptable. The main reason I posted the warning was WP:ELNO #12. Wikis are almost never reliable sources (per WP:RS), and depending on the significance and size, should also not be used as external links. Additionally, I felt adding links to the wiki on multiple articles was a bit spammy. We discourage users from editing wikipedia for the purpose of promoting a single website. Adding content is clearly favored (and more helpful) than adding links. Finally, I felt the content of the links (i.e. [1]) was rather poor. There is almost nothing on that page. Per WP:ELNO #1, external links should "provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain". The link didn't add any information what so ever. Sorry if this is a bit harsh. I just wanted to make it clear the issues I felt were underlying my message above. But please, don't be discouraged. In fact, I'd like to encourage you to keep working on articles, and improving them. I'm sure you have a lot to offer besides links! If you have any questions or concerns, I'd be glad to help. Good luck!-Andrew c [talk] 02:15, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
