Chateau Chantal edit

Hi there, just wanted to say welcome to the site and that you've done a good job on the Chateau Chantal article. I did remove the list of awards as I believe they give too much of a promotional tone to the article. If there are some important awards that received coverage in mainstream press then they could probably be included with references, but a long list of medals do not really comply with the neutrality policy.

If you are interested, there is a Wine Wikiproject that works on wine related articles and new members are very welcome. Our improvement drive this month is on Italian wine topics, but of course there is no obligation to contribute in that area if you are not interested. The talk page there is a good resource to ask other editors for help or second opinions. Also please feel free to comment on my talk page if you need help, either in the wine area or with other aspects of the site. Camw (talk) 04:50, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I also removed some categories, the Categorization guidelines say "Pages are not placed directly into every possible category, only into the most specific one in any branch." The Michigan wineries category is the most specific category within the agriculture and wine branches, so that is all that is needed. Camw (talk) 04:57, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Chateau Chantal edit

Thank you for your help with this page. I would like to leave the picture at the top of the page. I have seen many other articles with a large picture at the top of the page and I can show references if necessary. I understand not having the long list of awards, I added it to show that it competed with other wines nationally and internationally but perhaps there is a better way to show that other than a long list of awards.

Welcome, nice page, see WP:LEAD#Elements of the lead, images should not be first as per Wikipedia standard, I have moved it as per the guideline, but I think the rest of the pictures are to cramp now, I will leave it up to you to decide if you want to remove some and if so which. --Stefan talk 00:26, 4 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

To: --Stefan talk I read the WP:LEAD#Elements of the lead and it mentions pictures but no where in the article does it say that pictures can not be in the Lead. The larger picture is an important part of this article because it is known for being a beautiful landmark, sitting in arguable one of the prettiest places in the world. Would you quote the part of the article that says that pictures can not be in the lead, because I just see it saying that they should not have links. Most articles have a picture in the lead area, which ones don't? This is just a larger picture, and looks better centered. GRuskowski (talk) 16:34, 4 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The section that I linked to specifically states that you can have pictures in the lead and it also specifies the correct structure, by that they mean what order the lead should have, it states (and I copy)

Correct Structure of Lead Section:
{{Other uses}}
{{Copy edit}}
{{Infobox rocket|name=...}}
{{Contains Korean text}}
[[File:TypicalRocket.gif|...|A typical rocket]] or {{Rocket Navigation}}
A '''rocket''' is a ...
[table of contents]
== First section ==

So first we should have other uses, then Copy edit which means cleanup tags, then infoboxes which would represent the {{Infobox Winery}} and then the picture and finally the text, this implies and is also how most wikipedia articles are structured that the pictures is not a wide picture. Look at the latest WP:FA pages or the current WP:DYK pages, they never have a picture from left to right before the text. If you where to have a wide picture at the place stated by the above order the page would look very strange. If you want to we can discuss this at the talk page of WP:LEAD, I will accept whatever they would say. I also see when checking the current WP:FA and WP:DYK that most pages have a image argument in the infobox, I will add one to the winery info box and place the picture there, I hope that is an acceptable solution for you? --Stefan talk 00:57, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Tried to fix the infobox but I do not know how, Camw can you fix things like that?? --Stefan talk 01:13, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Michigan wine edit

Thanks for your work on the Michigan wine article. One interesting fact, which you probably realize as well as I do by now, is that if there's a great article on only one chateau, it's a little iffy (WP:ADV), but if there are articles on a significant proportion of all the major chateaus, then that helps establish the notability of all of them. So, more articles! Bigturtle (talk) 17:06, 12 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I quite agree! There is an article already on Chateau Grand Traverse and I helped make the Chateau Chantal article. I would like to see more articles done on the rest of the wineries in the State (although very few of them are "Chateaus", actually probably only Chateau Chantal and Grand Traverse are technically "Chateaus" and Grand Traverse barely meets the definition). I worked for two summers at Chateau Chantal back in 2006 and 2007 so I know the most about that winery but I enjoy them all. I have not yet ventured to work on any of the other wineries because I am afraid of getting things wrong but I would be happy to help. Let me know if I can help on Michigan Wine at all! My mother is actually the president of the Michigan Wine Association so I might be able to get at a lot of information! GRuskowski (talk) 14:41, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Can you do some research on Michigan ice wine? Pageviews indicate growing interest. How many Michigan wineries produce ice wine? Bigturtle (talk) 01:34, 15 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

That sounds great to me, I will see what I can find! If there is enough information should there be a Michigan Ice Wine page? Or just a subsection of the Michigan Wine page? GRuskowski (talk) 13:33, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I talked to a few people and it seems that only a few wineries make ice wine. I found this article, although a few years old, to be very informative. http://www.winesandvines.com/template.cfm?section=features&content=49688&ftitle=Michigan%20Ice%20Wine%20Rises%20When%20Mercury%20Falls GRuskowski (talk) 14:34, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your article looks very good and useful. Can you summarize some information from it and add it to the "Ice Wine" section of the Michigan Wine article. One thing to make clear is that the Grand Traverse region of Michigan is one of the few regions in the U.S. that is geographically fitted to produce small quantities of this specialty wine. This information increases the notability of "Michigan wine" and thereby enhances the article. If the section grows enough, someday it will become an independent article of its own. Thanks!
