GC2021, some significant issues have arisen with your DYK nomination and with the Flightless (record label) article itself. Do you think you'll be able to address them? Please stop by the nomination page when you get a chance. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:26, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! I'm currently editing this article for a Uni assignment, so any advice on how to clean it up would be greatly appreciated. I have added in more sources and taken out anything which I can see to be biased or written with a certain tone. I believe all the work in this article is accurate, and doesn't suggest any points of view. The majority of information is merely description about the label itself and the bands it has signed. I have used the Flightless website fairly extensively for information on things such as Vinyl catalogue and current artists etc, as there aren't a lot of other independent sources. I don't believe that my use of the Flightless website contradicts the encyclopedic tone of the article, as it is just presentation of facts, with no opinion. What parts of the article do you think I need to fix? If you have any other recommendations for the article I would love to hear them, or if you just have any general advice so I can get a good mark! Appreciate the support, GC2021 (talk) 04:46, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi GC2021. The issue with using the official website as a prominent source isn't that it introduces opinion but that it creates a promotional article. We want to know what independent sources say about a subject more than what a subject says about itself. Except for the most basic facts about a subject, we don't typically consider an official site to hold much WP:WEIGHT (that is, the amount of space we should give it in an article). So, for example, you have a big paragraph about the logo and merch sourced only to their official site. That kind of advertising/promotion, while free from opinion, presents an issue for neutrality insofar as it doesn't present a detached view of the subject (which is based on what other people have said about it, and if nobody outside of the label has talked about its logo, then it shouldn't have any more than a dry sentence of what the logo is, for example).
It's fine to take some time to improve these kinds of issues in the article, but when something is being evaluated for display on the main page (as a Did You Know or otherwise), it attracts some additional scrutiny to make sure it meets our fundamental policies first. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 01:46, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Just to clarify where we're at regarding DYK: following the above, the article would need some work to qualify. Adding more independent sources, cutting down material that relies on primary sources, etc. Do you think you'll have time to do so? It sounds like we can keep the nomination open (leave it pending for a little while) if so. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:42, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
