Down Syndrome article

I would like to add the following information to the article on Down Syndrome, but editing is currently blocked. In the section on history, after the reference to Professor Jérôme Lejeune, I would like to add:

In his last years, Professor Lejeune did research into the question of metabolic abnormalities in persons with Down Syndrome. After his death in 1994, his research has been continued by Dr. Paddy Jim Baggot. Some success at identifying abnormalities and finding treatments has been experienced. In later research, it has been shown that measures to treat biochemical deficiencies should begin at about the 22nd week of pregnancy. Some parents are currently giving supplements to their children with Down Syndrome, which has resulted in some improvement of their capabilities.

I would contest Excalibur's deletion simply because people should have a right to know everything they can about DS. The most important fact about the research is not that supplements are being tested or used, but the general direction of the research. It has been found that DS folks have certain heightened needs for certain nutrients. What isn't clear yet is whether or not it can be fixed by supplements or whether this is a more profound problem than that. I don't think anybody has claimed that it is a done deal that supplements work. This is ongoing research. The most important information is that this is a direction some researchers are working on. It is hardly a commercial issue at this point, because as far as I know, nobody is selling these particular supplements in a commercial way. There was no attempt in my edit to advertise any vitamin supplements. This information is simply about research that is being done. In fact, you will find no real information on what supplements they are testing on the site, as far as I have been able to determine. So this is not about allowing advertising for vitamin supplements at all.

I see you've responded to Excalibur's message on your Talk page. If you do wish to reinstate your edits, it's probably best to ask for further opinions at the Down syndrome Talk page. I also urge you to cite statements regarding clinical research to reliable, unbiased scholarly publications; surely some of this research—which may, of course, warrant mention in the article—has been published in peer-reviewed journals. Elvis Presley article page protection

Unfortunately the Elvis Presley page illicites the spur of vandals. This diff [1] indicates as such. Anonymous user 82.* I believe has done this in the past - and posted comments on the talk page around the lines "Elvis stole rock music" or "Elvis was a racist" if I'm thinking of the same account. Might be best to block that anonymous account to prevent this or to restore page protection to prevent the vandalism. Does 'page protection' prevent going to 'featured status'? Spacticity Image, Thanks

Thanks for the nice comment on the spacticty image. I'm still really learning, but this is as good a place as any to practice, and I felt that was an article that really could do with a nice picture. I was scared to say I could "contribute with a good level at vector graphics", incase people thought that that image wasn't very good. Thanks for your response. I think that we have come to an important philosophical/ethical conundrum, which is medical in nature and may directly involve the health and safety of the general public. I was doing research several months ago. At that time, Wikipedia had such a gushy and positive article about melatonin (it appeared to be written by supplement suppliers), with no mention of the potential dangerous effects that can occur. I agree with you that most articles such as Income Taxes or Abe Lincoln should fall into the general guidelines you sent me. However, I think that if there are peer reviewed scientific studies that have found dangerous side effects, they need to be expressed as such.

I know you are an administrator, and I am wondering if you might talk to other administrators that have faced this medical/medication/supplement situation before. I personally think that if there is supporting evidence of harm or potential danger, then that information is not opinion or biased, but an absolute. Aminocoumarin

Thanks for the help with references. I am currently new to this area and am trying to expand on information relating to this class of antibiotics which are not widely used in clinical medicine due to toxicity issues. Novobiocin a member of this class is commonly mistaken for an aminoglycoside (which is incorrect) and have edited this page to this effect (still needs a bit of work though formatting-wise) if you could keep an eye on it for me and say I'm not going wrong I would be greatful 16:48, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Pharm-stub subtypes

I still don't really see much point to it, unless maybe if the stubs put the articles into individual categories for better sorting. Not sure if stubs do this or not? Anyway, I'll still personally use the general {{pharma-stub}} tag, since it's easier for me than remembering all the different stub tags. Cp2Mo2(CO)6

I'd appreciate links on how to draw pictures like this, because its very pretty. But the structure is so imperfect that I would discourage you from posting it on the article. It implies more symmetry than is really there. The centroids of the Cp rings are not coaxial with the Mo-Mo bond. Here's a ref: Inorg Chem 1974, p 1080.
