Steve Jobs edit

So much has been written on Jobs's personal life that no encyclopedia article about him would be complete without mentioning it. In comparison, Vollmer doesn't have a biography or even interviews with anything close to that level of personal detail. We wouldn't hold them to the same scope requirements—instead we go based on what can be accurately sourced. – czar 17:52, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Undue weight? edit

How exactly does not having multiple sources equal undue weight? Undue weight has to do with opinions afaik. ViperSnake151  Talk  23:07, 23 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, I am misdefining the definition of it. For the news stuff, it does not hurt to have another source, which shows that other sources are aware of it. Gamingforfun365 (talk) 23:28, 23 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

July 2015 edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Sierra Entertainment into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. 220 of Borg 08:53, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

See template I added to History of Sierra Entertainment, here. It seems correct, but I'm not 100% sure. 220 of Borg 09:28, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your information. I will try to do better. Gamingforfun365 (talk) 21:44, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yep, no worries. Some editors however think they can 'copy' a whole page and paste it to a new name, making it look like their work entirely! You almost said everything needed in your edit summary when you created the stand alone history page, but didn't specify where it came from, though it wasn't hard to work out..
• I'm not sure if this is 'kosher' though, adding a "too long" template after you have already split the page. It would have been something to bring up on the talk page first too. I think now the history section of Sierra Entertainment needs to be pared down (summarised), unless someone objects. We don't want or need (AFAIK) the original history to have exactly the same content as the 'new' history page. See also WP:Splitting. 220 of Borg 09:41, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
As a matter of 'protocol', I have made a section inviting discussion of this 'split' at Talk:Sierra Entertainment#Split off of History section. 220 of Borg 09:56, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Plagiarism vs. copyright edit

Hello, Gamingforfun365. :) Another editor has reversed your change to {{Uw-copyright}}, but I wanted to just stop by and explain the differences between copyright and plagiarism at a high level.

The definitions of plagiarism vary slightly, since it is not encoded in law, but most definitions presume that copyright involves taking somebody else's work (words, ideas) and either explicitly or by omission of credit claiming them as your own.

Copyright is a legal issue that involves taking a substantial amount of somebody else's legally protected creative content and using it in a way that is not justified, as by fair use or fair dealing defense, or authorized by legal license.

It is not generally regarded as possible to plagiarize if you attribute. For instance, you can copy an entire essay without plagiarism as long as you acknowledge the author of your essay. By contrast, acknowledging the author is no defense against copyright infringement. Even a quotation from your source, if substantial and not otherwise defensible, may be copyright infringement.

The law does not forbid our accepting plagiarized content, because plagiarism is not illegal. Our own local guidelines do, but that's a separate matter from copyright concerns, which are legal and trump. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:54, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:PC speaker audio sample.ogg edit

Thank you for uploading File:PC speaker audio sample.ogg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Psychonaut (talk) 10:17, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
