Thank you for reviewing my submission. This is my first entry.
I'd appreciate if you can be more precise on what type of references are needed to qualify as in-depth. I have a few references to published papers, conferences and books. Are there any other types of resources needed?
I will continue editing and get additional experts to contribute.
Please do not delete the enyry as I have not managed to make a copy of my submission. Francisds~enwiki (talk) 09:04, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Francisdsilva

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Francisdsilva requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hello Francisdsilva. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Francisdsilva. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Francisdsilva|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Theroadislong (talk) 13:03, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for clarifying. I can understand your suspicion; my enthusiasm tends to get the better of me. And thank you for introducing me to the term "paid advocacy".
No. I am not being paid to write this. I am a practitioner of Systems-Oriented Design and very interested (over enthusiastic?) in garnering more content and finding practitioners on the topic of gigamapping from a wider global audience. I have discussed this with the inventor of gigamapping since he is retiring.
I will review the guidelines for paid advocacy. Francisdsilva (talk) 13:18, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
That sounds like promotional editing. Posting to draw more attention to a subject. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 14:11, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, I am drawing attention to an emerging field (using visualisation as a means to address complexity and systemic challenges). I am doing it in an open and noncommercial manner with the aim to increase understanding and stimulate debate (outside of Wikipedia)

Is that prohibited by Wikipedia?

I just need to know if I am misusing Wikipedia. Francisdsilva (talk) 14:58, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
"drawing attention to an emerging field" is promotional and is NOT allowed, we only report on topics that are already notable. Theroadislong (talk) 15:17, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes. It is promotional in the sense of public interest and not in the sense of proprietary or commercial interests.
The field started in 2012. I claim that it is notable by virtue of being presented at international conferences and taught at bachelor, masters and executive master courses at different institutes.

I am now seeking publishing so that it can be reviewed by a wider audience. Francisdsilva (talk) 15:50, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is already published but needs to pass the WP:AFC process which it currently does not by along mile. Theroadislong (talk) 16:06, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I would like to go back to your original comment. Requesting me to declare that I am not being paid to write. I have made that declaration in this thread and on my use profile. Francisdsilva (talk) 15:53, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
You say above that "I have discussed this with the inventor of gigamapping" this means you have a conflict of interest at the least, which you need to disclose on your user page. Theroadislong (talk) 16:08, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Done! Francisdsilva (talk) 16:55, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
That is sufficient. As an editor with a COI you are permitted to create and submit the draft. HOWEVER, if it becomes an accepted article, then you are advised to no longer directly edit the article, but instead propose changes on the Talk page of the article. David notMD (talk) 21:18, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I will now resumbit and I hope it is accepted.

I understand the logic in using Talk to suggest edits and to not make edits myself. I have started a topic there. Francisdsilva (talk) 13:23, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
