You're thinking about it wrong edit

The note "If preview-refs and Cite-installed, call Cite()" shows you're thinking about it all wrong. The way it would have to work to be accepted by the devs would be for the Cite extension to use the appropriate hooks to be able to insert the UI element and such when the extension is installed, so the MediaWiki core need know absolutely nothing about the Cite extension. For example, the EditPage::showEditForm:fields hook is documented as allowing the extension to add a field to the edit form. If all the necessary hooks don't exist, they would have to be added as part of this plan. Anomie 01:42, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I can see that, the extension has to manage itself. Back to the drawing board then, but thanks for the links, hooks are an area of MW I've never really grappled with before. :) Franamax (talk) 02:19, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Just want to jump in and lend encouragement. Ability to somehow see the refs for a section during preview of a section edit would be extremely helpful, especially when copyediting long articles. EEng (talk) 15:36, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
