ITN recognition for Joël Robert

On 14 January 2021, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Joël Robert, which you nominated and updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. SpencerT•C 15:28, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Please

do not post on my talkpage. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:53, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

I don't check who created pages, so I have no idea which automatic messages will end up on your talk page. You are free to remove them of course. Fram (talk) 13:54, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
What part of "don't post on my talkpage" don't you understand? Please stop it. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:57, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Then stop the automatic message.
This has to stop honestly both of you. Lugnuts your edit summaries are uncivil and Fram he's asked you to stop posting to his page. Happy to partial block if this is simply an automated edit issue. Glen (talk) 14:04, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
AfDs are done. Objecting to automatic messages after mass-reverting edits is a bit off, and the edit summaries should lead to an immediate block. Wiching people to "DIE" as "scum" because you get a bunch of automated talk page messages is a serious loss of perspective. Fram (talk) 14:06, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Eek I didn't see that just the F off summary which caught my eye. Glen (talk) 14:09, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Just witnessed all this. I'd be interested to know how to switch off these notifications. Whenever I've AFD'd things, I have to add a manual message. Is it a problem with Twinkle? The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:15, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Twinkle has an option to notify the creator or not. Usually, it is considered good form to notify the article creator. Not all these articles were Lugnuts creations, so I couldn't simply drop notifications for this batch. Why getting notifications for some 10 minutes is such a big deal is not clear. Fram (talk) 14:18, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Ok, my guess is that after being asked to stop posting auto-notices to Lugnuts' talk page, that should have been enough to check that Twinkle wasn't going to do it again and again. But that's my best guess. Shame it had to turn rotten. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:45, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
All. Apologies for what happened and what I said earlier. Maybe it's just me who gets frustrated when someone is asked nicely not to post on my talkpage, but continues to do so (12-15 times or so). When you're trying to work on something else and all you see is wave after wave of red-dots/orange bars, it's distracting to say the least. I've said it before to other editors, I have no issue with anyone nominating any article for deletion. I'm not going to comment further (here) on my stance about thos AfDs - what's done is done. I'm now going to try and save some of those from the bin/redirection. I don't know how Twinkle works, as I've never used it, but maybe there's something that can be done to change the settings. And maybe working from home for the past 8 months or so has finally got me to the point of cracking! Again, all I can do is offer apologies (or "Apple Logies" if you prefer...). I can understand if the involved parties aren't happy with that, but I'm sure we'd all like to crack on with bigger and better things. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:24, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Your apologies would be more believable if you dropped the snark otherwise, e.g. in this edit summary, and removed your attacks in the AfDs. Fram (talk) 15:10, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Blanking of pages

Blanking of pages by converting them into redirects, without merging their content anywhere, is pure vandalism, even if sources are inadequate, as they often are. You should start an AfD and notify the creator. Moonraker (talk) 07:56, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Bye, stalker. Feel free to raise my "vandalism" at the admin noticeboard or at WP:AIV and see how far it will get you. Fram (talk) 07:58, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
You have a bad habit of personal abuse, which in my humble opinion you need to stop. That would clearly be another matter for complaint. Moonraker (talk) 08:00, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
You can add it to your ANI complaint. Fram (talk) 08:02, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Civility. I am not a Wikilawyer and do not want to be pursuing you through formal complaint processes. Better if you can listen to others and behave reasonably. 08:06, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
You know that falsely accusing editors of "pure vandalism" is a personal attack? And that stalking an editors edits is not really a good example of civility either? Perhaps first read the relevant policies before accusing others incorrectly. Fram (talk) 08:16, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

@Moonraker: If you want to complain, please use diffs and cite relevant policy for best results. Otherwise it looks like a personal attack. Hope this helps. Thank you for your content work. Adding new content is so important, and so is removing dodgy content. Jehochman Talk 08:46, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Jehochman thank you for the advice to use diffs in a matter like this. When someone has the politeness to start an afd, that’s one thing, but simply deciding to blank a page is surely quite another. Moonraker (talk) 19:09, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Élise Masson

Thanks for having a look at this page. Now, the references exist in Catalan from which the article has been translated (and a bit from the French one), just, they have an unusual system of linking the refs to the body of the article that I haven't yet deciphered. Or should said refs be hand-copied one after one into the core of the article ? Your help would be appreciated.

Also, is there a consistant and "mandatory" rule regarding the use of italics in the title of films, operas, books etc. Everyone seems to do as it pleases. Same for portals. I seem the only one to indicate them in my output. Thanks. LouisAlain (talk) 16:50, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

No problem. The page clearly had enough references, just added in a strange way. I now understand why, but I think you (or anyone wanting to help) should better add them as regular refs in the body of the article (or at least some of them, those that reference most things or add most information). As for italics in titles, I have no idea actually, I know we have some manul of style pages about this, but I don't really remember when to use italics, when double quotes, ... In references, the templates do that for you, but in running text this is of course harder. Fram (talk) 16:57, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
I will give my standard advice about this sort of thing: If you cant remember if there is a particular MoS method for italics (or other formatting). Dont worry about it. Just do it whatever way and a gnome who does care about these things will be along shortly to tidy them up. There are very few occasions where type formatting (italics etc) has any impact on the quality of an article. So dont waste time worrying about it. If someone corrects it "per MoS", they are probably right and just let them get on with it. Only in death does duty end (talk) 17:32, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
OK, thanks to both. I'll try to add the refs one after one in the hope it will work. Apparently it will take some time. LouisAlain (talk) 18:43, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Bach

We can't help that Francis Schonken and Mathsci are the two key contributors for Bach, and assuming "following around" is not exactly good faith when all it takes is a watch list. We three have the same articles on our lists, believe me. You are invited to watch over BWV 1, which I nominated for FAC because it was Wikipedia's birthday, and now I'm in the middle of the conflict which is no fun. BWV 4 comes to mind, - no good memories. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:58, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

2021

Sad to see a new discussion at WP:Great Dismal Swamp. Mathsci didn't edit between June 2018 and June 2020, and was sooo relieved when he returned. Removing an "in use" template seems no violation to me, - it doesn't change the content. There was even a discussion about abuse of the template. (I have never used it. When I heavily edit an article, I may warn on a user talk page.) I have suffered several major editing "sprees" by FS, worst Stabat Mater (where he in the end removed the infobox, - he must be aware that it would hurt me, and instead used a picture I took, which hurt me more, - I don't know if he was aware of that). I try to stay calm but sometimes I scream anyway, and then can't stand myself for having fallen to bait. My pov. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:56, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Imagine that you and FS had an interaction ban. You are writing or expanding an article, and add an "in use" tag. And who comes around to remove it? FS! It doesn't get much more clear than that. It doesn't matter whether the removal is correct or not, it is the kind of edit you should never make against someone you have an Iban with. It's not some kind of vandalism, BLP violation, which can't wait; the only intention and result is to annoy the user you have an Iban with, and to let them know that you are watching their edits. It doesn't matter if one is a better editor than the other or not, I don't care: the community has decided that they were both problematic and that they should leave each other alone, full stop. There are 6 million articles, Mathsci starting editing one FS has edited 10 times or so over the past day is just harassing him. Fram (talk) 15:02, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
I confess I have imagined to have an Iban with Francis ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:11, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

ACArt + errors

Hi Fram. Not sure what the difference is between this and the Authority Control template, but when you do a preview on an edit where ACArt has been added, it comes back with lots of red errors. Stuff along the lines of "Warning: Page using Template:Authority control with "CANTIC", please move this to Wikidata if possible (this message is shown only in preview)." and so on. Don't know if it's a temporary thing or not. Ta. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:55, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks.I had raised the same issue at Wikipedia talk:Authority control#Template:ACArt created, without any response so far. I'll bring it up again some day, to see whether these preview errors can be disabled. They are in reality warnings, not errors, and for ACArt (and other similar templates one might make) they are unwanted anyway. It should probably only be shown when you add an alternative value to the Wikidata one, not when you suppress it completely (which is what ACArt does). The difference between ACArt and Authority Control isn't always visible: it prevents a whole series of authority control links with no value for these articles on enwiki from appearing, so e.g. Gerard David goes from 19 links[1] to 13 (and we could probably drop another 5 or so), and Pablo Picasso goes from 41 links to 19. Basically, keep the mildly relevant stuff (for enwiki) and remove the clutter (which is still available at Wikidata). Fram (talk) 21:13, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
The warnings have now been removed thanks to User:Tom.Reding. Fram (talk) 13:47, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Template:ACArt replacement

Might better require a regular bot run, as the normal authority control template is still being added to articles, including art-related ones. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 21:32, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Problem is that I tend to skip over a few articles here and there, which are e.g. about people who are artists but more prominently something else, and so the ACArt template might not be the best fit. Not sure that a bot could do better. Fram (talk) 21:45, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Career statistics

Why you want to delete all these career statistics pages? So many players have them! JamesAndersoon (talk) 15:53, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Too many players have them. Federer, Williams, Evert-Lloyd, Borg, Navratilova, ... fine, perfect pages for people with remarkable statistics which get as such attention. But that doesn't mean that the hundreds of less stellar players also should have statistics pages. Fram (talk) 15:55, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Agree, probably you right about CiCi Bellis. But why Shelby Rogers? She already few years on the WTA Tour, three Grand Slam quarterfinals, played against so many top 10 players, earned money etc?? JamesAndersoon (talk) 15:56, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Never won a tournament, never reached the top 10, has no really remarkable record against any top player, ... While she is a better player than Bellis, it still is nothing exceptional. There are probably by now a few thousand players (male, female, doubles) with a similar record over the years. Fram (talk) 15:59, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
And 90% of them already have pages! Understand you, but that's the reason why CAREER STATISTICS exists to made statistics about someone's career. JamesAndersoon (talk) 16:01, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Uh, no. Perhaps 5% have pages, and most of these have been created recently. Pages should only exist because they are about a notable subject; a subject which has received considerable attention. There has been much discussion about Federer's record-breaking number of Grand Slam wins, or Serena Williams' efforts to do the same, or Nadal's 100 wins at Roland Garros, or... Who has ever discussed the statistics of Bellis or Regers? Probably some minor comments in an article about her, but really as a separate topic of interest? Fram (talk) 16:22, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Do we create only pages for extra-ultra talented players and only for players with records and top 10? You can't compare Bellis with Serena for example, because Serena is one of the best with results and Bellis is rising player. It's ok that people take care more about Federer or Serena, but it doesn't mean that other players doesn't have chance to be recognised. Otherwise, better delete 90% of pages because they do not win at least 10 Grand Slams. Quite unfair. JamesAndersoon (talk) 16:27, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Bellis, and Rogers, and all these others have a page. They are recognised. I am not proposing to delete their pages at all, and would oppose this if someone else started an AfD. But that doesn't mean that we need a separate, second page specifically for their statistics. Fram (talk) 16:42, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Career statistics delete

@Spiderone:, @Fram: I bring back all significant from CiCi Bellis career statistics and Shelby Rogers career statistics to their main pages. I'm wondering what do you think about some of these ones:

- JamesAndersoon (talk) 19:22, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Diyas probably warrants a separate article just because of the fact her page is quite long so adding the stats back might make her article too long. Not sure about the others. Martic might well justify one on her career achievements. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 20:15, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Question to why you move article to draft

Before I start, wanting to say I move Cancellation of Dr. Seuss back to article state. RS on both political parties are talking about it being cancelled. The title isn't "extremely slanted" as that would be calling multiple RS including NBC, AP News, ABC, Fox News all slanted the same, which they aren't. Also the article was mentioned on the Portal:Current events. Please be careful before moving articles to drafts without discussion as it can have format errors on other pages. An apology

Hello Fram. Hopefully you can forgive me for all the problems earlier. I made a mistake and I fully understand what I did and I accept the ban. Not even going to try to fight it for at least a few months. Hopefully you won't hold a grudge against me once the ban is lifted. I want to try to make amends with all the editors I have had problems with over the next few months so I hopefully can sorta "start fresh" today and build a good reputation over my ban time so I can resume constructive editing after it. So in short, will you forgive me and not hold a grudge? Elijahandskip (talk) 23:43, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi, no problem. I would urge you not to "fight" the ban at all, it expires in 6 months: if you would try to get it overturned sooner, it will only worry people that you will start with the same kind of problematic edits again and haven't learned anything. Just stay far, far away from anything even remotely connected to recent American politics for 6 months or more, and afterwards try to edit gently and neutrally. And, well, turn of Fox News, or at least don't trust them on anything (apart from sports perhaps). They present a very slanted view of the world, of facts, of politics (but also healthcare and the like). A popular one, but not a reliable one. (Please don't respond on these Fox issues, as that would be a violation of your topic ban, sorry!). Fram (talk) 08:15, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Request regarding de-tagging article on List of vice presidents of India by longevity

The article List of vice presidents of India by longevity had been de-tagged by a user, but it was re-tagged by you mentioning me to find some reliable sources with significant attention for the longevity of Indian vice presidents. I agree that the sourced added in the article verify the dates and now I need to find certain sources with significant attention for the longevity of Indian vice presidents.
The article is about a notable topic, and both the President of Indian and Prime Minister of India have articles on same topic (List of presidents of India by longevity and List of prime ministers of India by longevity), without any single reference or source. Also the same article on List of vice presidents of the United States by age has only a single source.
I would ask you to kindly tell which which sources are reliable, as the sources which are added include the official website of Vice President of India (https://vicepresidentofindia.nic.in/homepage) and Rajya Sabha (https://rajyasabha.nic.in/).

Instead of completely removing my pages, just put templates on them

I've seen far worse articles that exist on Wikipedia, the sources may not be reliable but that doesn't mean they should completely deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TableSalt342 (talkcontribs) 10:09, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Then these other articles need deletion or moving to draft as well. The quality of your articles, again and again, simply isn't acceptable for the mainspace. I've asked you to use WP:AFC instead; if you insist, I will start a procedure to make this a formal requirement instead of a request. Fram (talk) 10:10, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

More on my pages

I sumbitted Maiguori as a draft a few months ago, that was my first Wikipedia page and it was accepted a few months later, that would fit in your concept of a 'bad page', take this up with the moderators — Preceding unsigned comment added by TableSalt342 (talkcontribs) 10:12, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

No idea why that was accepted, as the single source didn't verify the information (how could it, a source from 2008 can't verify population figures from 2017 surely?). Moved back to draft. Fram (talk) 10:24, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Stop deleting my pages

Stop using your power as an experienced user to delete my pages for subtle reasons like one unsourced piece of information out of a complexed article to delete all of my content that I spent time and effort on working. Instead, don’t activate your monkey see monkey do sense and start editing the misguided information instead of deleting every single page I’ve ever made. Also, don’t try and make it so I can only submit drafts, you’re using me starting out on inexperienced articles as an excuse to forever lock me in only submitting drafts. It’s so stupid. Stop deleting every single one of my new articles and rather than looking at who created the page, then just clicking delete impulsively, look at the article, examine what’s right and wrong with the article and edit the thing, and if there are unreliable sources, just edit the thing out and improve the page. You are, by far, the most annoying user I’ve ever met on Wikipedia and if you keep doing this to people, you’ll stop them from editing altogether, which I’ve already considered, seeing all the mods agree with you on your decisions. Yes, my starting articles were a complete and utter mess, but you can’t use that as an excuse to completely ruin my experience on Wikipedia all together TableSalt342 (talk) 14:36, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

I started with your most recent articles, which were terrible. Blaming it on your "starting" articles is not correct, there is no improvement over time in what you produce. You have shown no indication of taking anything that has been said on board, even your creation today was rapidly moved to draftspace (not by me). In most cases, your articles contain bits of information which are clearly wrong, and information which is hard to verify, and all of it based on poor sources. I don't click "delete" impulsively, I look at all these pages, I even left, against my better knowledge, a few in the mainspace. But the others (which aren't deleted, they are moved to draft) simply can't be trusted to be correct even when the obviously incorrect information has been removed.
Letting you continue to create such substandard articles would be stupid on our part. It takes more time to review and clean such articles than simply create them from scratch, and the risk is that some would slip through the cracks anyway and that the incorrect information would be presented as fact, which already happens with your oldest creations. Fram (talk) 14:43, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

And, did you see that article? No, the information has a whole demographic section based on the latest census, go check it out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TableSalt342 (talkcontribs) 14:51, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

You mean from that site which, in bold, says in its summary; " Please note: census information may include figures for adjacent streets and postcodes."? Or that the positions ("higher and intermediate..." and so on) are only based on one person per household, not everyone? Fram (talk) 14:59, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Also, tell me how I would find 'reliable sources', going through the secret files of the top government? No! I check the top 10 pages on google because those census informations are hardly findable through public internet, and even if they were, I would have to go looking for millions of files to find census information for some small village. Please explain — Preceding unsigned comment added by TableSalt342 (talkcontribs) 14:55, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

??? Secret files of the top government ? Fram (talk) 14:59, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Also, why can’t you just edit the information instead of completely deleting the page. You believe that I’m a bad editor, so you why would you leave the information on a bad editor instead of correcting the information at hand? I’ve seen a couple of people do that and put templates up but I’ve never seen someone swoop through every single article I’ve ever done with deletions TableSalt342 (talk) 15:00, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

There's a first for everything. Action should have been taken earlier, but as all towns, villages, ... are deemed notable, new page patrollers tend to skip these and focus on usually more problematic articles (biographies, companies, bands, ...). So yours largely escaped attention. And as it turns out that much of the information in your articles is either obviously wrong or very hard to verify, I move it to draft space so you or others have the time to correct the pages and improve the sourcing drastically, without leaving potentially problematic information in the mainspace. If there are articles you believe can be put straight back into mainspace, you can follow the instructions at WP:AFC and propose them to be moved back to the mainspace. Others (not me) will check them and provide feedback. Fram (talk) 15:04, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Ok, I’ve thought it through. Do the thing where I can only submit articles as drafts and not to the main space, I like submitting articles, not to publish information but I enjoy doing it myself, and I honestly don’t really care what happens to it after I edit it. So now that I’m not angry about it I would do that draft thing and set it for a few weeks at least TableSalt342 (talk) 15:17, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Uninvolved third-party here

Tablesalt342: Why would you put so much effort into something that just created more work for other people? What a waste of time and energy? If you really enjoy writing, for lack of a better phrase, so much why not spend your mental and physical resources writing your own blog off of Wikipedia? You may not realize, so let me politely tell you, that you are burning up so many resources you're actually being very disruptive. You're consuming bandwidth, taking up storage space in the database, consuming computer resources like memory, electricity, etc. Then there are the human costs to monitor, including the frustration to other Wikipedians that you are, in fact, causing. Am I allowed to create stubs

I still disagree with your reasons for deleting my articles, especially my latest one on a welsh village. It’s fine, Possibly removed some of the housing information, but other than that everything was encyclopedically acceptable he said on my talk page. Just because it’s a stub doesn’t mean you can delete it. TableSalt342 (talk) 16:29, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Why do you state that you would create your articles in draft space (as you will be obliged to do in the very near future anyway), and then create it in the mainspace anyway, and get upset when it gets moved to draft space? Your article creations are obviously problematic to very problematic so perhaps you could first use the process we have to get feedback on articles before they hit the mainspace, WP:AFC? Why are you so unwilling to listen and learn? What we are trying to avoid is an influx of more poor to terrible articles, e.g. claiming that Draft:Baranga, Central African Republic has or had a zoo, when that zoo is actually located in India? You have to prove that you can be trusted to create articles without too many glaring issues: only then can you again be allowed to create articles directly in the mainspace. That even the articles you created today, when you were aware that people were watching them, contained such errors and poor sources, only reinforces the image of the problem. Edit War on Silas Texas

Everything that I wrote was obviously backed up by the sources.

It says Bear Bayou as one of the alternative names on TexasAlmanac

The community’s name changing frequently is a reference to the names changing from Battle Ridge to Bear Bayou to Silas Baines to Silas. Can’t copy from the source

66% white 33% black, it says 90 white to 64 black, simple math into percentages, again can’t copy from source, you’re asking for too much

And Silas was expanding because it was! The settlement had a gin, sawmill, school, the source mentioned the houses getting spread out. A lot of backup for this one

The area began attracting settlers before the Civil War, The settlement began attracting settlers wanting to disassociate from the civil war, maybe you can change this one, but it was quite hard to reword it.

For 12 years only 5 families would inhabit the area, Bussey, Crump, Hammers, Prince, Sparks and Stockman, change that to 6, and the years were between 1880 and 1892

Silas’ economy was primarily sectored. Because it was! If farming and agriculture starts booming in an area and dominates its economy it is a primarily sectored area!

The other school is mentioned in the Shelby school site, which shows us the school dates back to 1915 and it says it was burned in 1948

Your speedy deletion nomination

Please tag the correct creator of the article [[Helena Łazarska]] (which is @LouisAlain) with your copyvio speedy deletion which by the way seem to me not very promising. CommanderWaterford (talk) 17:41, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Why isn't it promising? A straight translation is just as much a copyright violation as a straight copy. Fram (talk) 17:47, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
That was not the cause of my message (honestly I did not check if you were right or not assuming a copyvio) - in case of nominating you need to inform the CREATOR of the article, LouisAlain, not me. CommanderWaterford (talk) 20:18, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, then perhaps you shouldn't have added that clause. Anyway, I tag speedies with Twinkle (asdoes nerly everybody I guess), and to the mind of Twinkle you were the creator. I've since notified LouisAlain as well. Fram (talk) 06:47, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Regarding the recent ANI case we both were involved in

I think you were right to bring this case even though it may have partly contributed to a very sad outcome EDIT: the person concerned taking a few days break and then coming right back to do the same thing. Setting aside any points about article-quality or the encyclopedia as a whole, I think we should recognise mass-stub-creation as an unhealthy editing practise that may be a symptom of wider problems. It can leave the editor concerned 'responsible' (as creator) for many thousands of articles all having the same point of failure, and when the inevitable AFDs/PROD notices start piling up on their talk pages this can have an effect on the vulnerable. I think it is something Wiki may have encouraged in the past but should now discourage (e.g., by de-emphasising article-creation and edit-count stats). Wiki is not a mental health service but at the very least it can try not to make the compulsive behaviour of some editors worse. For my self I will also try not to use emotive language about these articles in the future (e.g., describing them as "garbage articles" or similar) and try to be more conscious of the editor behind the articles. FOARP (talk) 07:54, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Just to note our friend is back and again mass-creating cricket articles. I frankly don't care so much as at least cricket player articles are relatively harmless, but I feel a return to mass-creating Geostubs seems very likely and we're going to be right back where we were. Hi Fram, it looks like you accidentally used the same link twice in the AE report you just created. The second link, "25 March 2021", leads to the same version of the page as the 23 March one. Question so I can learn

In the Arbitration discussion against me, you said in my last comment (recanting comment statement) that I made a personal attack. I read it multiple times and I can’t see what the personal attack is. Could you quickly explain what is and why it is a personal attack so I don’t make that mistake again. Thanks! (Made this here as this question isn’t that relevant to the discussion and would just increase our back and forth messages). Elijahandskip (talk) 13:18, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Saying that people are lying is a personal attack. You claim I lied when I said that I didn't want to get you blocked for a genuine mistake, and then filed the AE request. This is why I included the three diffs, i.e. the first (mistake, but indication that you were aware of the Topic ban recently), the second (where you didn't even want to discuss a link on your user page because of your TBan, but didn't remove it either), and then the one that lead to the AE filing: I don't believe that you wouldn't dare even discuss the topic on your own talk page, but saw no problem in repeating, in bold, the violations that led to your TBAN in the first place. That's no longer a simple mistake, that's either disregard for your topic ban, or a very serious lack of competence (seeing how you misinterpreted El_C's comments completely). Neither gives me any confidence that letting you edit any longer will be beneficial, as it seems like we will just have one problem after another. The outcome of the AE request is not up to me though, I can only give my view, my opinion there. Fram (talk) 13:32, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Dang. I am sorry that you feel that way, about me not being competent. Thank you for explaining why it was a personal attack. It makes sense now. Hopefully the admin will not block me for 3 edit when I have really been working to improve. Thanks for the explanation! Elijahandskip (talk) 13:37, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
@Fram:, I can tell you that however the AE goes (warning, longer t-ban or straight ban), I will take it to heart. I know you do not believe that I have competence, but I promise that I am learning. I know you want the best for me, so I would really appreciate if you don’t start a noticeboard against me for those issues you brought up on the AE. I really thank you for all the criticism that you gave and I really am taking it to heart. If I don’t get a block from the AE, I am going to do even more protection on my end to make sure I don’t cross the t-ban line. Again, thank you for all the feedback and honesty starting the AE in the first place opened my eye more to the exact definition of my t-ban (Grandpallama talked about it). Hopefully it can be resolved without that drama, and I am going to fix all the refs as promised. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:23, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I'm glad your okay and back. As you know, I don't like all your edits or editing approach (and neither do you like everything I do on enwiki), but you clearly have the best interest of the encyclopedia at heart and try to improve things (and have done for years and years), and it is never good when people clash over how to approach such stuff, as it feels like personal rejection (I've had my share). The balance between letting everyone with good intentions edit however they like, and getting some common standards and expectations, is very hard to strike: common standards are necessary, and there are people with good intentions who create really terrible articles, but there is not a single "best" solution. I have been accused of bludgeoning discussions when in my view I just discussed proposals, presented and defended arguments, but in the end accepted whatever the consensus was. Accepting that what I or you believe is best, may not have consensus, is never easy. Accepting that sometimes stupid or wrong arguments against your position can be "counted" and sway the discussion against your position is even harder. I can't offer any advice on how to do this, but I try to make the distinction between the few people who argue out of spite, because they don't like me or you, ... and the many people who argue because they believe their position to be the best for enwiki. I see what you’re doing

Because I reverted uncalled for terrible edit on Thornton Butterworth, you’re now trying to find the smallest thing wrong with my articles, plus you’re trying to confuse me as a sock puppet with TableSalt342, who you bullied off the platform by drafting every single one of his articles. My articles are nowhere near his quality, I sourced Draft: Dave Township, Gansu perfectly, with 12 reliable, manually written sources. And what do you take the article for down? ‘No idea why this terrible article was let on Wikipedia’ after a moderator literally accepted it. You can see I started my account a few days after he ended his, and I spent that time practicing on how Wikipedia works, I created my first article, Li Tumi, which was same quality as his, but it’s still up for review. And I was told my Commander Waterford himself, an article only needs 2 citations to be left up for Wikipedia in response to one of my worst draft articles, which only sources Google Maps. I move my own maps to the draftspace if I feel they aren’t fit for Wikipedia. I came across Thornton Butterworth because I was browsing Salamon van Abbé and viewed his publishers. I clicked on it, saw it was drafted and then saw your terrible misjudgement on that edit, which was ironic because I’ve seen Wikipedia articles with one paragraph, terribly sourced and you left them, it was obviously something against TableSalt342 and his articles. You even pointed out it was one of his better articles as well and yet you still moved it from the draft space. LongWinterBranches158 (talk) 09:22, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit warring report

Hello Fram. Regarding Template talk:Cite Q#TfD warning, do I understand that both you and Mike believe that a new TfD is a way to resolve the dispute? (The original TfD was in 2017). I see the phrase 'the burden is on X' being used but nobody stepping forward. If you don't want to start a new TfD, can you at least propose how the issue should be phrased if someone were to open a TfD, or some other formalized discussion? NSPORT proposal/Abdellatif Aboukoura AfD

Hi, is there a reason why your proposal hasn't been advertised elsewhere (I posted a notice of it at the Notability TP, but was unsure about doing so even there)? I would think something affecting such a large number of BLPs deserves input from a larger community than the regulars at NSPORT. On that note, am I right that the Aboukoura article is essentially a biography of a living child that completely fails GNG and is hinged entirely on the CRYSTAL expectation that a fresh Academy grad who has made one late sub for a USL team will eventually garner sufficient SIGCOV? Because on the face of it that seems like it would violate a handful of common-sense BLP principles that aren't being addressed at all in the AfD. JoelleJay (talk) 04:12, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

My proposal there was a continuation of an existing proposal, but seems to be the only one in that section with a chance of passing. Because it was already an ongoing section, I haven't really posted it anywhere else. And Aboukoura, yeah, we wouldn't allow such an article for any other profession or would-be profession, but sports tries to carve out and maintain some self-declared exception, and rather aggressively at that. What is your problems? Don t u see references page down, results taken from the official site? what more do you want — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pehlivanmeydani (talkcontribs) 07:30, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Please read WP:N. While having official results from the official page is perfectly alright for verifiability, it isn't sufficient reason to have an article here. Subjects need to show that theu have received enough non-routine coverage from independent sources, e.g. newspapers. The sparse coverage of the tournament indicates that it may be better to have just one article for the tournament, listing the results of all categories, instead of separate articles with results of the fights between largely non-notable wrestlers. Draft:Latarian Milton

Any help would be appreciated. What better sourcing do you think is necessary? The news article? I believe the sourcing isn't great but not horrible. BlackAmerican (talk) 10:21, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Is there any evidence that the person would be notable now, as an artist or entertainer, if one ignores the articles about his childhood mistakes? We shouldn't label anyone a criminal or delinquent over what they did when they were 8 years old (and we shouldn't do it based on a copyvio link to a Youtube post of an old local news report). "Biographymask" is a terrible site, which should never be used.
As far as I can tell, all we have is a biography of someone who did stupid stuff as a 7- or 8-year old, then some criminal stuff as a minor, and then ... nothing really. Fram (talk) 11:35, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for the response. Well, I can remove the juvenile delinquent statement. Although he did commit further crimes such as carjacking and robbery later on. He was though an internet sensation. The Youtube video has 14 million views. Additionally, he was on Tosh.0, as well as a Boondocks episode being based on his actions. A testament to his fame was the appearance on the Megan Thee Stallion commercial mixtape, which peaked at number 10 on Billboard 200 in 2019 (a full 10 years later). Additionally, his statements are as timeless as "Ain't Nobody Got Time for That" or Hide Your Wife, Hide your kids with Antoine Dodson or the Numa Numa (video) . BlackAmerican (talk) 12:05, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Yes, but he did nothing later on to make him notable. He is a young adult now, and while his childhood antics may still reappear occasionally, there is no reason for us to document them here. You are free to nominate it through the AfC process or to bring it back to the mainspace yourself, I will then nominate it for deletion at WP:AFD and we'll see what others think. In the meantime, every poor source (like biographymask, that youtube link, probably some others) should definitely be removed as they will never be acceptable. Fram (talk) 12:17, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
Since I don't recall how to do the AFC process, can we simply, just mainspace it and you put it up for AFD? Thank you BlackAmerican (talk) 13:08, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
Now at AFD, but I don't know how long it will survive, as it is a truly terrible article. Fram (talk) 13:30, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Page views template

Hey Fram, in light of your initiative in the authority control revamping, I wanted to get your read on a different proposal that also deals with longstanding template(s), if time and interest permit your attention. The ones in question are {{Page views double}}, {{Annual readership}} and {{Graph:PageViews}} which I've come to the conclusion are not beneficial—despite being widespread—to talk pages. My rough nom rationale is:

Banner blindness is a real thing ([2] [3]) and results in important information (arbitration notices, controversial warnings, talk header etc.) being overlooked or ignored. These page views templates are prime examples of unhelpful cruft that clutters the talk page. The information is already available in a more sophisticated, customizable and accessible format, available at the top of the revision history page ([4]).

Do let me know if you agree with my assessment. If so, I'm wondering what your feeling on the community reaction might be, as well as any opposition arguments you would expect. Best - Aza24 (talk) 08:27, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

As far as I am concerned, these can indeed all go as intrusive clutter, but I fear that too many people will want to keep them with "useful" or "does no harm" arguments. Fram (talk) 07:23, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Proposed t-ban for Celestina007 from WP:UPE, broadly construed

Hello, An IP started a subsection Proposed t-ban for Celestina007 from WP:UPE, broadly construed. When I saw it there was a WTF moment because it was immediately after my comments and was collapsed with the heading "No idea whose sock you are, but this one has zero chance of passing anyway". When I uncollapsed the box it seemed to be vandalism but anonymously closed. I had trouble finding it in the history and when I did (02:48, June 29, 2021) it was by you with the edit summary "Hat, no use wasting time on this bit".
I am in no way contesting the closing or collapsing but there has to be a better way to present it or separate it as it certainly was just vandalism, and I think you should have signed it. Thanks, -- Otr500 (talk) 14:54, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
I should have signed it, if it is still there I'll do so now. No idea of a better way to hide it (I could have simply removed it, but I prefered collapsing so others could see what I did and revert if I was wrong). Fram (talk) 15:43, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of pythermalcomfort page

Hi, I do not agree with your decision of deleting the pythermalcomfort page. First of all, there is a Wikipedia page which lists other Python packages hence I do not understand why an article about pythermalcomfort page is not relevant. pythermalcomfort is an open-source and free Python package that users can use to perform complex thermal comfort calculations, hence, it is extremely useful for engineers, architects, and facilities managers. The usefulness of pythermalcomfort can be quantified by the fact that it was used in at least three peer-reviewed papers (i.e. Ma et al. 2021, Salimi et al. 2021, Brode 2021). Hence, I do not understand why it is not relevant. There is a page about toilet paper orientation on Wikipedia, please explain how that is more relevant than a package that can be used by practitioners, educators, and researchers in performing thermal comfort calculations in compliance with the major thermal comfort standards. I don't know if you are aware about this but thermal comfort affects the wellbeing, comfort, and productivity of people. Please read the introduction, hence, it is significantly more important and has way more impact on the world than toilet paper orientation. I really would like to know your rationale for taking down this article. Could you also please share the source code of the pythermalcomfort page? I cannot longer find it online. Tarta88 (talk) 01:46, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Whether a package gets used or not isn't really relevant for us: a topic, a subject gets an article here if it has received significant attention, i.e. if it is discussed at some length in other reliable sources. Mentions like "we used pythermalcomfort to calculate things" are not sufficient. I don't have access to the deleted article, so I can't tell you where to find the source code.
