Mira Zivkovich is the Ellis Island Medal of Honor winning President and CEO of MZI Global Marketing a strategic marketing consulting firm and Dame Commander of the Order of Merit of Savoy.

Background

Zivkovich family has roots in the Krajina territories of Hapsburg, Austria. Zivkovich's great-grandfather held the title of Baron during the Austro-Hungarian period. Zivkovich's father was a photographer for Yugoslav President Tito. Zivkovich grew up in Belgrade, Serbia and immigrated to the United States during the late 1960's.

MZI Global Marketing

Zivcovich credits her background for instilling a love of culture and a deep understanding of the powerful role that heritage and customs play in people's lives that would lead her to form MZI Global Marketing in 1987. The New York City based firm has worked with several Korean government agencies to help introduce Korean designers and manufacturers of organic products to the United States market. They worked with Donna Vinci brands on their 2008 "Malia and Sasha" Obama collection charity event.

Other pursuits

The Order of Merit of Savoy is a dynastic order of the Royal House of Savoy. Zivkovich designed the website for the order and published two books "Royalty & Remembrance" and "The Dynastic Orders of Knighthood and Merit of the Royal House of Savoy" for the order. Zivkovich was instrumental in creating the Slavic Heritage Coalition and organized a "Feast of Love" benefit celebration honoring philanthropist Lillian Booth at the Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral.

The American Delegation of Savoy Orders, which includes the United States of America and Canada, is one among 35 delegations of the Savoy Orders located throughout Europe and the Americas.

The Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy are among the oldest orders of chivalry in the world. Their origins and their principles, traditions and humanitarian goals, like those of Royal House of Savoy that has the hereditary right to confer them, date back a thousand years.

The Dynastic Orders of Knighthood and Merit of the Royal House of Savoy

Since 1946, the Head of the Royal House of Savoy has continued to bestow four Orders of Chivalry that are dynastic and hereditary—that is, the Head of the House of Savoy serves as the Orders' titular Grand Master.

The Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation

Amadeus VI, Count of Savoy instituted the "The Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation/Ordine Supremo della Santissima Annunziata" in 1362. The Annunziata was the highest Order bestowed by the House of Savoy and was reserved for notable men-at-arms, particularly of Catholic and noble birth. Today, the Order is limited to twenty. By tradition, Knights are Catholic. On rare occasions, a non-Catholic, such as a foreign sovereign, may be made an honorary member of the Order. The Head of the House of Savoy serves as the Order's hereditary Sovereign and Grand Master.

The Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus

"The Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarusis/Ordine dei Santi Maurizio e Lazzaro" the combination of two ancient Orders. Amadeus VIII, the first Duke of Savoy, founded the Order of St. Maurice in 1434 when he retired to the Castle of Ripaille on the south shore of Lake Geneva. The Order consisted of a few knights he carefully selected to advise him on such affairs of state as he continued to control. The Order of St. Lazarus was founded as a hospitaller order during the Crusades. Its primary object was assisting lepers, many of whom were among its members. In 1572, the Orders of St. Lazarus and St. Maurice were incorporated by Pope Gregory XIII into one community under the perpetual Grandmastership of the heads of the House of Savoy. After the unification of Italy in 1861 and the proclamation of the Italian Kingdom under the Savoy dynasty, the knighthood of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus became a state dignity conferred by the King. Today the Order is conferred by its 17th Grand Master, H.R.H. Prince Victor Emmanuel, Duke of Savoy, to recognize those who support philanthropic causes and have contributed to the benefit of mankind through good works, the arts and letters, sciences and humanitarian disciplines. The Holy See recognizes it as a Dynastic Order. Although recipients need not be Roman Catholics, they must be Christians.

The Civil Order of Savoy

"The Civil Order of Savoy/Ordine Civile di Savoia" was founded by King Charles Albert of Sardinia-Piedmont in 1831. The Civil Order is a rare award bestowed only on Italians who, having devoted themselves to professions no less useful than those of the Army, have become, through deep and long studies the ornament of the State or who have through their toils been of use "to the public well being.¨ Among distinguished recipients will be found the names of Cavour, Verdi and Marconi.

The Order of Merit of Savoy

"The Order of Merit of Savoy/Ordine al Merito di Savoia" stems from the Civil Order of Savoy. In 1988, HRH Prince Victor Emmanuel of Savoy created the Order of Merit of Savoy. It is a dynastic order of the Royal House of Savoy bestowed by the Prince, as Grand Master, upon individuals whose special and particular achievements in various fields of endeavor have made them worthy of recognition or who have worked to benefit the House of Savoy and its institutions.

The American Foundation of Savoy Orders, Incorporated, is a United States not-for profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization whose philanthropic work in North America and around the world is supported by the members and friends of the American Delegation of Savoy Orders.

The Foundation was formed primarily to provide support for hospitals, relief agencies and assistance for the poor, sick and elderly. These charitable and humanitarian purposes are in keeping with the centuries old hospitaller traditions of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus. Contributions to the Foundation and its charitable projects are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

The Savoy Orders focus particularly on charitable activities in the field of health care. Grants have been made to Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center and Rudolph W. Giuliani Trauma Center in New York City to help pay for and operate a specially equipped ambulance bearing the Arms of the Royal House of Savoy.

The Savoy Orders support cultural activities, particularly those with a connection to Italy. Recent grants by the Foundation have gone to the Charitable and Educational Trust, Sons of Italy in America, to Teatromania in support of a theatrical event “Orlando in Love,” based on Boiardo’s Renaissance poem “Orlando Innamorato,” and to New York University Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo.

In keeping with Chivalric values that call for protecting the poor and the defenseless, the Savoy Orders contribute to charities that serve children. A longstanding beneficiary of Savoy Foundation grants is Boys Towns of Italy.

The Foundation made a grant to the Catholic Near East Welfare Association for the care of needy children in the Near East.

In 2005, the Foundation became a Non-Governmental Organization in Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. This status enables the Foundation to participate in the medical, poverty and educational work of the United Nations. It also provides opportunities to form strategic alliances with the international philanthropic community with which the Savoy Orders are already active.

Members of the Italian Royal Family actively support, attend and lend their names through formal patronage of these worthy events and causes.

Proceeds from the Foundation's events are donated to hospitals, orphanages and other humanitarian causes. These events provide valuable support enabling the Savoy Foundation to carry out its charitable work to aid children's causes, hospice care for the poor, sick, and infirm , and to produce the annual Savoy History Lecture Series focusing on the history of Italy and the Savoy dynasty. The generous participation of the Knights, Dames and friends of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus and the Order of Merit of Savoy fosters the continuation of the Savoy Orders' role in humanitarian and hospitaller assistance and support for its cultural, educational and social initiatives.

The Savoy Foundation has established three endowment funds: charitable causes, educational programs and operating expenses. Traditionally, annual grants are made to hospice programs and orphanages. Other grants are made through the Savoy Foundation's Emergency Response Fund to support emergency relief efforts throughout the world to victims of natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes and floods.

Through a generous donation by the Mark Pigott Family, the Savoy Foundation in December 2010 established the Savoy Orders Pigott Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships to college students for studies in the Humanities and International Affairs.

At the international level, H.R.H. Princess Marina of Savoy is the Honorary President of the Swiss Association of the Hospitaller Works of the Savoy Orders based in Geneva, Switzerland. In North America, Their Royal Highness's Prince Victor Emmanuel and Princess Marina, Prince Emmanuel Philibert and Princess Clotilde of Savoy have participated in charitable activities and events with American Delegation and Savoy Foundation officials.
