Lands of Hope edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Lands of Hope, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Proposed deletion of Lands Of Hope Redemption edit

The article Lands Of Hope Redemption has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No claim of notability or significance given, only references are from game developer

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 331dot (talk) 12:54, 21 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Apparently my username which has been on Wikipedia for 7 years is now mysteriously bad .... can it be changed to UnhappyDecius123?

Decline reason:

Unblock is unnecessary; per this statement, user has no interest in editing Wikipedia. --Kinu t/c 20:38, 3 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

To be fair you made only two edits in April 2007, and then none at all until today!--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:58, 21 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yes and on the strength of the way my edits and additions seem to have been met today it may be another seven years before I try again ....

I don't want that, but your edits should be done in accordance with Wikipedia guidelines, such as the conflict of interest policy. 331dot (talk) 20:04, 21 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough but I don't feel like my edits have done anything but provide reliable information using the references and sources that are available. I did not seek to market my products, merely provide a reliable source of relevant information that you might find in an encyclopedia. Which to my knowledge is one of the core reasons Wikipedia got started. I realize Wikipedia probably has hundreds of thousands of pages made on a daily basis and policing that is a hard task but the Lands of Hope article I created 7 years ago has existed just fine on Wikipedia for 7 years ago, admittedly the game that the article relates to closed down a few years ago but now all of a sudden you mysteriously flag it for deletion it almost feels like you have a vendetta against me. I'm not an evil person :P
There are 21million+ registered users, and 33million+ pages on Wikipedia. We cannot police them all, as you say. Often, it takes someone editing "again" to catch both current and past issues. We also have a process against blocking usernames that are not currently contributing - so when you disappeared, there was no reason to block. Now that you're back, all bets are off. Nobody is suggesting you're an "evil person" - we deal with thousands of improper pages and hundreds of improper usernames per day. A block like this is not punishment, it's simply saying "you agreed to some rules on this private website, and we'd like you to stop breaking them please". You'll now only be unblocked if a) you change the username (which you're requesting above), b) and you agree to not write about topics you're directly involved in - pretty friendly and simple, really the panda ₯’ 09:58, 24 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
With all due respect what is wrong with changing my name from ForlornGames to UnhappyDecius123 as a username (it does not appear to be in use)? - I could understand if my request was for "UnhappyAtWikiPedia...." but it is not. It was an attempt at highlighting my mood Unhappy, in the same way your name is Dangerous. Or are we not allowed to have numbers in a username? - clarification please. Forlorngames
Because it gives the impression that your account is the official account of Forlorn Games, to be used for promotional purposes or one to which multiple people would have access, as explained above. It's the same reason that the account User:Microsoft is indefinitely blocked, and User:Sony would be if were ever created. It's nothing personal against you or your products. Woodroar (talk) 19:30, 24 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I am requesting my name be changed to UnhappyDecius123 the name Decius is not referenced in any of the Lands of Hope articles on Wikipedia so how would someone know that Decius is Forlorngames? Forlorngames
I'm sorry, perhaps I misunderstood you. User:Forlorngames is against policy. User:UnhappyDecius123 looks good and has no connection to the games, as you said. It appears that your username change was declined as it's easier for you to create a new account as User:UnhappyDecius123. I don't claim to know everything involved in a name change, but I do know that it's complicated and can take quite some time, so it's often not done for users with few edits. I hope this helps! Cheers! Woodroar (talk) 22:34, 24 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Again, the chosen username is not an issue. The issue remains: you agreed to not edits where you have COI. As part of any corporate ethics, a business and its employees undertake everything from non-disclosure agreements, to agreeing to not reuse code, etc. You made an ethical agreement when you signed up to this private website: you agreed to not directly edit topics where you have COI. Wikipedia works on community, trust, and people sticking with their ethics. So, we're still waiting to see if you intend to be ethical, or not ... and you have yet to address that aspect correctly. the panda ₯’ 10:59, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have struck some comments above. As DangerousPanda pointed out, the username is one issue, but the promotional edits are another. If you are unblocked, your username may be changed or the admin may direct you to create another account. Please do not create another account at this time as I suggested above until you are unblocked. Woodroar (talk) 17:18, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Frankly after listening to you all form opinions of my character and moral / ethical nature I am perfectly happy for you all to delete my user account or leave it banned and then delete my articles and I will quite happily not return to Wikipedia, nor make a new account because at the end of the day I don't think it is reasonable for folks to judge others without knowing them. Good bye!. Forlorngames
