Infobox rugby league biography

Hey there. I do vaguely reacall the talk, but can't seem to find where we decided to go down that route. It is grammatically correct to have it 'As of', it would need to 'Correct as at the' in the current format. Will leave it as it currently stands though.Londo06 09:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

As at points to a particular point in time. The data is correct at that point in time. As of refers to a point in time on or after that date. The data will be correct from that point onwards. I've got no problem with correct going in to make it a little better. 'at' would be right for time, ie 1300, 4pm, etc. It would be 'of' for a date though. As of would include that date, I get the idea of tying it to that date. However as of also does that. An example These details are correct as of 25 July, 2005. against These details are correct as at 25 July, 2005. I'm not sure what you mean by no problem with correct going in - correct has always been in the template. As for 'at' would be right for time, ie 1300, when the five tildes are used correctly, there always is a time recorded as well as a date. Regardless, it isn't necessary for a time to be present, it is perfectly correct with a date. By all means bring up the point again but it hardly seems important given the outstanding decisions yet to be reached regarding the new template. Yeah, no gripe from me. I said that I'd leave it for the day, and I left it for a couple. No-one raised the issue and as I was bored watching the Liverpool match I decided to multi-task; watching the Sunderland v Liverpool out of the corner of one eye and adding colours to some infoboxes. Yes, I've taken your advice :) I loved doing the article on George Taylforth as well. Really interesting reading the ICAC report! It can be quite difficult finding on-line (or hard copy) references for these older players, so it feels really worthwhile collating the information into one article on Wikipedia. Aargghh...that infobox voting process !! Anyway two practical questions if I may. 1) I recall that you may have cropped the photo on this page. I found the crop to Watson and loaded to his article. Did you not also crop to Micky Dore ? and 2) Sometimes when I type words at the end of an image descriptor (to the image in situ on the article) the words appear (see Viv Thicknesse), other times not (see Micky Dore); yet my script seems identical. I've uploaded an image that you can see on this page 1927-28 Waratahs tour of Britain, France and Canada and there's another here photographthat I want to upload; both could badly do with cropping. Mathew Head

I don't want to kick off about this one, I respect you as an editor, however the dash is not predicated by there being a particular length of contract, just the fact that he is still with the club. Were he to have his contract ripped up it would just be 2008. That he is still with the Wests Tigers it would be 2008-, indicating the fact that he is still with that club. When he joins the Dragons it would revert to simply 2008, with the Dragons years being 2009-. These are wikipedia standards that I have seen throughout the sporting infoboxes. You have no grounds to 'kick off' about anything. Because you say you have seen it in other sporting infoboxes doesn't make it correct or a 'standard'. I prefer known policy: Endash - The en dash is used in ranges, such as 6–10 years, read as "six to ten years". There is no 'to' involved in a one year, current or otherwise, contract.

Re:Tildes v text

Hey, sorry about the late reply. Personally I prefer the text, not just because it looks better but rather because it is strongly encouraged. You may notice that in "my preferences", there is an option to change date formatting - these options only work with linked dates, hence why I prefer to format it this way in articles. No worries, I've been offline for a bit anyway. All that preferences stuff with dates is now 'deprecated' and discouraged rather than encouraged. So, unless the wikilinking of a date has a direct relevance to an article about that date, it doesn't need to be done. See MOS:UNLINKDATES. The website has files, articles, video, news, audio resources and a vibrant discussion forum. The site has been active since March 2008 and continues to grow. The website is in the top 25 Google results, the top 5 Yahoo results, the top 5 Ask results, and the top 5 AOL results in a 'rabbitohs' search. Its going through discussion at the moment. It should be passed that they will be removed. The problem is the editor who keeps reverting any attempt I make to remove it from Karmichael Hunt. His/her justification was that any team that had an article got though, but obviously didn't see or turning a blind eye to the previous discussions before. Andrews (ABC) lists the team - "C.York"; Centenary of RL has a team photo - "C.York"; but Whiticker's Captaining the Kangaroos has full names of 1928 1st test side and calls him Colin. So we have two sources calling him Colin and one conflicting source from the same author calling him Charles. Your call but I suggest you leave the article named Colin and if we find out later his birth name was Charles that can go in the i/box. Intriguing career BTW : 4 1st grade games in five years at Balmain then he goes onto State & Nat representation in his final year from Queanbeyan. Picture crazy

I've gone picture crazy in the last few days on some of these RU articles I'm writing; which got me thinking how I could leverage your earlier hard work on the RL old-timers. Have a look at this. The Dave Brown pic won't increase in size while it is in the thumb frame. It will reduce nicely but will not increase in size beyond the 130px or whatever it is uploaded at. The only way I could get it to increase was to remove 'thumb'.

Pic without the thumb frame at 150px. I had a look but I can't find any code that will over-ride it. I'm not sure whether I can edit the original uploaded pic and increase the size as there is a fair use tag associated with it. Is the pic available anywhere else? That book cover rationale

Are you familiar with that rationale used for uploading a book cover picture such as on Brad Fittler and Arthur Beetson. Seems to me that the rationale is that the article is discussing the book in question wheras of course the articles in these cases are discussing the subject of the book. I'm actually the one who uploaded those images a while back. In doing so I've always been careful to place the image in the section of the text where the release of the book is mentioned (so the book's cover accompanies a 'discussion' of sorts about the book itself) such as with Wayne Bennett. I'm concerned about a few of them which other editors have moved to the infobox (so the book's cover appears to be used as a means of identification of the individual). Nothing has come up yet I think because a rationale exists and that keeps bots away. But if they're investigated further there's a risk they'll be deleted. So I think having the book covers away from the body text where their release is mentioned should be discouraged.--Jeff79 (talk) 06:36, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Its the other way round. I thought it was right but just realised, I won't bother fixing it unless some one requests. Category:Infobox rugby league biography templates updated is the category for new=yes (meaning they need updating).
