I need your help and advice

Dear FL, I need to ask for your help and advise. I am being harassed by some editors who obviously have different points of view and opinions from mine. I am new to Wikipedia and feel some sort of disoriented. How should I handle this uncomfortable situation? Please advise. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Best, --Grancafé (talk) 18:00, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

A good way to get quick resolution to a situation is to post on WP:ANI, the incident noticeboard for administrators. Simply click here to start a post, enter the subject and content, then save it. Be sure to inform any users that you mention in your posting that you have mentioned them on the noticeboard by leaving a note on their talk pages and also make sure you monitor the post's discussion periodically, answering any questions asked. ~fl 09:07, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your kind response. I will follow your advice. Best, --Grancafé (talk) 18:18, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Please review my article

Hello!

I have created an article in my sandbox space that belongs to a WikiProject: Software. I have been working closely with my Wiki mentors to make it comply with the wikipedia basic content rules. They suggested that I get the article reviewed from a wiki editor of a similar background. Thus, can you please review the article and advise me of what points I need to take care of. Thank you. PCJain (talk) 09:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Further advice request

Dear Fl, I posted a notice of “Impropriety and harassment help request” on the WP:ANI, as you suggested. I strictly complained about the harassment and impropriety of Flowanda. The case was closed without addressing of solving my complaint. It seems that Flowand has friends that can close complaints without properly and fairly addressing, reviewing or solving them. Could you please take a look at this case and let me know if I am right or wrong here? Should I take this case to Dispute Resolution? Or does she have friends up there as well? Thanks for your help and advice, --Grancafé (talk) 18:00, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, they made some changes to the toolserver, I'm working on fixing it now. ~fl 07:20, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
There, it should be fixed now. ~fl 07:28, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for fixing things at {{Opentask}}, fl. If you have time, please take a look at the Update line. It says "None" most of the time. I'd guess that your bot does not look into the sub-cats in Category:Wikipedia articles in need of updating when re-loading that line on {Opentask}. Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 01:07, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Template:Update

Hi, re this edit - you didn't create Category:All Wikipedia articles in need of updating so it appeared as a redlink category at the bottom of several pages. I've now created the category, largely based on Category:All articles lacking sources - please check that Category:All Wikipedia articles in need of updating is correct. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:21, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

yes, it all seems fine. Thanks :) ~fl 14:05, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Re: Opentasks

Hey, I got your message. Sorry about the late reply, I don't really check my talk page much anymore. I've fixed the update template so that it has a flattened category "All Wikipedia articles in need of updating", which the bot should now use to update with. This template change should propagate and be picked up by the bot over the next couple of days. If you run into any more problems, Special:EmailUser/fl goes straight to my personal email which is checked daily. ~fl 07:44, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello, fl. Thank you so much for coming back and fixing things so effectively. That UPDATE line on OPENTASK is now properly stocked. Your help is very much appreciated. --PFHLai (talk) 02:45, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Your bot

Hello. We are thinking about abolishing Category:All articles lacking sources, et al. and I believe your bot is the only thing that is using these. Would you be able to adopt the code proposed to you in Augsut 2009? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:46, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

I don't have the time or commitment to modify and debug the code so that it will work with recursive category sorting. I would suggest maintaining the categories and merely hiding/delinking them as best you can. ~fl 09:22, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear FI,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 23:27, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Closed proxies

A tag has been placed on Category:Closed proxies requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
