Greetings to (and from) wikipedia edit

Usually you should be geting a greeting message from the welcoming committee. Since they didnt you see you coming, here I am doing that.

The rules, in brief, are

  • Be bold
  • Be neutral
  • Edit in good faith

I can see that you already got a {{copyvio}} tag for you edit in Malé International Airport. It is against wikipedia's policy to post copyrighted material. You will have to re-write your own version from the available information. However copying a line or two is harmless.

Same goes with uploading images. Its source should be clearly defined with the appropriate tag inserted to it.

The policies could be boring and long, but I recommend you read them before becoming a Wikipedia:Wikiholic. Some important ones are listed in my user page under general stuff.

Happy wiki'ing --Oblivious 20:33, 6 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

about airports article edit

Oblivious, thank you for your welcoming note. Really appreciate the heads-up on copyright policies of Wikipedia. The Airports article was the very first edit I ever did on Wikipedia, and I was merely testing it with full intentions of posting my own work shortly. Too bad that I didn't know about the Sandbox lastnight.

Am glad that we have a veteran Wikipedian (judging your work) among us. Am relying on your expertise to guide me right now.

You are most welcome! --Oblivious 15:46, 7 August 2005 (UTC),Reply

The National Anthem and Wiki Formatting edit

Thank you Oblivious for your praise on the article I wrote on the National Anthem of the Maldives. I still feel that something is missing from it, particulary the bit about the commissioning of a new melody prior to the arrival of her majesty, the Queen. I haven't been able to make much sense out of the online research material I've read on the subject. Something about not confusing her. (It sure did me). If anybody has a less clouded opinion on it, please elaborate.

Need some help with alignment of pictures. Suppose I want to place a picture on a specific part of the page, how should I use the [[Image:Example.jpg]] instruction string? Any help regarding this matter would be duly appreciated because I have a lot of trouble with pictures.

Oh, and this one is directed towards you Oblivious. How exactly do you use this Unicode formatting for Dhivehi language? I've seen the source and frankly, even Greek makes more sense to me than that thing. Sometimes I wish I had chosen a career in computing. --Fizan

  • For extended image support check Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax.
  • To convert thaana into HTML unicode I use a pretty simple menthod. Assuming you have language pack installed and dreamweaver installed... First open dreamweaver then press Alt+Shift. This will turn your keyboard to thaana keyboard (to revert press Alt+Shift again). now a blank html page, in dreamweaver, type in thaan. View the source of the document and you will see HTML equivalent of characthers you typed. copy and paste it! Hope this helps. --Oblivious 15:24, 25 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Oblivious. Got the problem with pictures licked. Now how do I handle (just like pics) templates such as these {{Babel-2|dv|en-2}}? And text too. Fizan

Before going to templates, I suggest you familiarize yourself with basics of wiki in different areas. You may want to spend extensive amount of time at here --Oblivious 04:59, 28 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

work pending on rufiyaa article edit

Here is unicode converter for you. It will be more suitable if you post article-related stuff in it's talk page. Eg in this case its Talk:Rufiyah. And btw... {{currentdate}} does not stamp the time you posted... instead try signing your entries with --~~~~

I know {{currentdate}} displays the current time, was waiting for someone to point out the correct way (syntax?) to do it. thanks. Fizan --Fizan 12:24, 29 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Hulhumalemap.PNG edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Hulhumalemap.PNG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. All the relevant info you put on my talk page needs to be added to the image description page and put that link to the source. I would use the copyright tag {{Fairuseunsure}} instead of {{PD-ineligible}} just in case. -Nv8200p talk 17:17, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:DRPLogo.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Fair use rationale for Image:HBO.svg edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:HBO.svg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:Discovery Channel logo.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Discovery Channel logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:06, 16 May 2007 (UTC). Non-free use disputed for Image:Pogologo2.PNG edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Pogologo2.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:DABF03-Cletus.png edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:DABF03-Cletus.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. Image source problem with Image:ThunderCats logo.svg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:ThunderCats logo.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:30, 31 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ejfetters 23:30, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Spike TV.png) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Spike TV.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Image copyright problem with Image:Gandi Signature.png edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Gandi Signature.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 15:17, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Kelly hi! 19:22, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Hulhumalemap.PNG edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Hulhumalemap.PNG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 21:22, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

February 2011 edit

Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Jacques Lizot. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please do not create attack pages as you did at Jacques Lizot. Attack pages and files are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images, especially those in violation of our biographies of living persons policy, will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you.   — Jeff G.  ツ 02:29, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

It was meant as a genuine starting point for an anthropologist and was not an attack page. Even the fact that he molested the children was phrased as "alleged" and was referenced with verifiable sources. If you are familiar with the world of anthropology and the contribution by Lizot as well as the allegations, I am guessing you wouldn't have acted so hastily. You could've waited for my response before deleting it. No wonder people are abandoning contributing to bloody Wikipedia, thanks to people like you. Speedy deletion nomination of Jacques Lizot edit

Please do not make statements attacking people or groups of people. Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages and images are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images in violation of our biographies of living persons policy will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.   — Jeff G.  ツ 02:27, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Maldives Monetary Authority logo.svg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Maldives Monetary Authority logo.svg.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 04:41, 24 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Done in the local Thaana script. Will put in the IPA transcripts a bit later. Hope this helps. --Fizan (talk) 19:26, 17 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Fizan! It's cute. For me it would be quite enough to write broad transcription like koocha in place of kɔːt͡ʃə if it makes your task easier. --Koryakov Yuri (talk) 11:19, 18 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
There, the entire list is of words is complete and I tried to stick with the IPA guide on the Thaana article. A few words had the "sukun" diacritic and the article didn't offer any help with their transcription so expect minor mispronunciations with those.--Fizan (talk) 14:38, 18 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Fantastic! You really helped me very much! By the way, what about "bark (of a tree)" - there's no such a word in Divehi or you are not sure about exact translation? --Koryakov Yuri (talk) 06:46, 19 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
That was the only word I wasn't sure about, but am fairly certain that I've got it right. BTW, I understand you're a linguist, whats your particular interest in Dhivehi/Thaana? --Fizan (talk) 12:40, 19 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Qi logo.svg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Qi logo.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:03, 3 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Flagtill65.PNG edit

The file File:Flagtill65.PNG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused, superseded by File:Flag of the Maldives 1953.svg.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:58, 31 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
